I heard a number of players struck down with the flu which is why they couldn't field a team. However agree that it's a shame when a premier club still can't field a Colts 2 team.

yeah - I heard that too. They were brave in the first half. Wests ran away with it in the 2nd with what was really a bit of a hodge podge team itself.

Your comment about Brothers is bang on. What a performance. Putting 60 points on the 2nd place team

Easts Colts 1 seem to have fallen off a cliff the past 2 weeks. After being pumped by Brothers the week before, they lost to last placed Sunnybank 28-29. Obviously they are missing key players at the moment, but depth is definitely being tested. Next weeks game against Bond will be crucial for both teams after Bond lost to Wests at home 17-26. Other results Souths def Norths 29-10, GPS def UQ 15-12. Brothers had the bye.

Some of the Colts teams will be a little lighter on this weekend with a lot of the u18 talent out, with the Reds u18 trials games on at Ballymore this Sunday arvo… The Reds u18 team/s then play the Waratahs u18s two weeks later at Ballymore of which should be a cracking game to watch!

Good move for Sunnybank getting a club man in for 2024. Hopefully they can start retaining their juniors again

Colts 1 Major semi between Brothers and Souths should be a cracker. Souths claimed the minor premiership and have defeated Brothers twice in the regular season. Brothers will have home ground advantage, but Souths have only lost 1 away game, against Easts in R6. The loser will face Easts or UQ the following week with the winner going straight through to the GF. Brothers have a lethal backline with Prass, Pritchard, Pakeho and Grant matching up against Bierton, Nasson, Perkins and Laban, however it's been the Souths forwards that have laid the platform all season with consistent performances by Leli, Kurbatoff, Leslie, Thygesen and skipper Holt. Both teams will want to avoid a possible match up against Easts who have defeated Souths once and came very close to upsetting Brothers on the weekend.

Colts season state of play. At the end of the 2023 QPR Colts season, all 3 Colts grades from Souths, Brothers and UQ have qualified for the finals, suggesting depth and strong programs. Easts and Bond both have had strong Colts 1 teams but their lower grades have finished at the lower end of the table. GPS and have had a disappointing season across the board, so too Wests, although their Colts 2 team did come home with a wet sail by defeating Sunnybank 144-7 to grab the final 4th spot. Norths have struggled and Sunnybank sadly have fallen off a cliff.

3 clubs, Bond, Norths and Sunnybank, have only been able to field Colts 1 and Colts 2 teams in the QPR comp which has meant the remaining clubs Colts 3 teams have had endless byes all season. Souths, Brothers, UQ Wests and GPS also have teams in the Tuckey cup which is effectively Colts 4 and plays Thursday nights. UQ and Brothers have 2 teams in that comp which also includes Wynnum and strangely Sunnybank.

It's sad to see that clubs like Sunnybank and Norths, who traditionally perform strongly in the junior ranks, are struggling to bring through or attract players into senior ranks. You'd think with no senior team from Logan, that Sunnybank would attract players from that catchment. Sadly all the talent probably ends up at other clubs such as Souths or Easts or playing in other sports. Norths have probably suffered through being geographically too close to Brothers and the alure of the Butcher stripe. Bond has great facilities, centrally located, with strong playing numbers in the GC junior club comps and a quite a number of GC schools playing rugby. How this doesn't translate to greater depth of numbers is a mystery.

The Sunnybank team is an U18 team who I think joined mid-season to give the kids some rugby. They didn't play for points.

Was a cracker of a game with Souths being physically matched by Brothers this time. The Souths vs Easts game will be interesting this weekend, as Easts look rejuvenated after a few strong performances, with their forwards so good over the ball? Could there be an upset, suppose it’s finals and anything can happen?

Souths really missed the physical presence of loosehead prop Lington Lei and the distribution of their regular 10, Will Nason. The game looked like it could have blown out to Brothers when they went to a 14-0 lead. To Souths credit they stormed back into the contest to lead 19-14 midway through the second half and looked like they may kick on. However some composed play by Brothers compounded by some ill discipline by Souths ensured Brothers advanced to the GF 29-19.

Easts look to be peaking at the right time and would not surprise me if they defeat Souths, which would be a disappointing end to the season for the magpies. Souths coaches would have preferred not to be playing so they could rest up some tired injured bodies, but such is finals.

Colts 1, Souths overcame a spirited Easts to advance through to the final with a 29-26 victory. The wind was howling at GPS on Saturday which made things very tricky for kickers and hookers. It was no coincidence that the team running with the wind dominated their half. For Souths their big names stood up when it counted. Winger Riley Bierton, fly-half Will Nason, full-back Dre-Dyn Laban and 8 Dom Thygesen all produced strong performances.
The grand final should be a cracking game. Souths defeated Brothers twice during the regular season, only to lose to Brothers in the first week of the finals.
Colts 2, Souths defeated Wests on the bell with a sideline conversion from fly-half Darcy Rowan. Despite Souths dominating at scrum time, they were unable to put Wests away. Wests centre Jackson Barling proved a handful for Souths defence, scoring 3 tries, including what appeared to be the match winner. Equally the Souths front row of Jonah Landbeck, Arun Vinall and Hugh Smith regularly monstered the Wests front row. But it was Rowan who stepped up when it counted after Souths flanker Rhys Chadburn scored on full-time to level the scores. Rowan calmly slotted to conversion from the sideline to send Souths through to the Grand Final where they will play Brothers.
Colts 3, Souths dream of having all 3 colts team in the grand final were dashed by UQ who defeated the magpies 25-12 in a dominant display. UQ dominated field position and possession, while Souths were unable to string any phases together. UQ will play Brothers in the Colts 3 GF.
