Queensland Reds 2025

Yes he played a few games for the Waratahs in 2024, Fourie has technically debut'd for the Reds as well vs Tonga.

Watching him on the weekend, he is solid, bit of a scappy/angry type player who was starting a few scuffles off the ball. But it was the GF though.

Latu’s an interesting one. Didn’t get selected for U20s but was playing HC for brothers most the year which is no mean feat.
Yeah if you watched him play AIC he is destined for higher honours, don't know why he wasn't considered for U20s, he is a big frame, so might just be a bit slower filling it out effectively and balancing that S&C.

It's a bit of a tricky spot - with Faessler, Asiata, Nasser and Craig all unavailable it's basically a 6th string hooker spot after Blake without much chance of Reds deal straight off. Fourie is more than capable of that, and I thought he looked pretty good in limited minutes against Tonga. He is still pretty young too, so there's every chance he picks up a spot in 27 when at least one of the current guys probably moves on.

Yeh I did think it was interesting when Fourie returned to Brisbane after stints with the Rebels and Tahs. Even though he only returned via club rugby i.e. isn't officially in the Reds squad it was certainly known that he was good enough to be selected as a fringe SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) squad member at very least.

Fourie is the perfect archetype of the kind of player I'd like to see sitting in a general Australian SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) training squad, getting a payment via RA to be involved in high performance sessions & camps and be eligible for selection by any of the Aussie teams who are short on hookers during an injury crisis.

He doesn't strike me as a player who will be taking the top spot for any Aussie team, but he clearly has ability and if he is keen to stay in Australia it would be good to have some kind of pathway to support that.

Fourie is not up to it that's why he got released from the Waratahs he may prove me wrong but nothing recently has shown me he is any better than he was 12 months ago. There are better players out there.
