Queensland Reds 2025

This year the perfect example of why we need depth at least 5-6 players deep in the backrow. Assuming Wright is physically okay and that they can get him for the right money (both of these might have question marks) I’d like to see him retained. I’d also prefer they sign at least one more genuine lock who is already super level than have to rely on Uru coming into the row. At Super level he does a good job at lock but is a step down from the genuine locks running around. At 6 or 8 he is competing for a spot in the test team.

Reds doing a bloody good job of retaining players.
Unsigned:
- Fa'Agase
- Gibbon (doubtful he'll get another go)
- Hodgman (doubtful he'll get another go)
- Asiata (think he's off contract?)
- Thomas
- Campbell
There are others that are on rookie contracts that I didn't really count. Jock and Sef probably the main ones that we need to lock down from a depth POV. Ideally would love to keep Asiata but we've got good depth there, and he should be getting big offers elsewhere (NSW in particular should go hard for him). Same goes for Thomas. For the sake of his development, he should really look at heading to the Force. He has shown enough to suggest he would leapfrog White, Fines and Robertson.

Hard to see Campbell staying (though I'd love to keep him) it's probably his last chance to cash in overseas and he isn't really on the Wallabies radar.

Lachie Anderson is the other major off contract player I'd like to see retained, he's really grown into the season and is just about our biggest back at this point.

Reds have 3 LHP's off-contract, and whilst they've signed Aidan Ross we need another one or two.. Gibbon and Hodgmans careers seems uncertain at the moment and Fa'agase is reaching his twilight, although he is probably playing as good as he ever has.

Sef wouldn't cost the world to retain. I'm thanking Gibbon and Hodgman for their service, they are too injury prone for us moving forward. LHP in order: Ross, Blake and then Sef? I reckon we are maybe one short but you could potentially get JTA (Jeffery Toomaga-Allen) to cover that side in a pinch like this year. Or someone from Hospital Cup to step up.

We’re speculating here but I was basing this off hearing that Hodgman and gibbon were close to medical retirement. I mean who knows with how hush hush the reds medical team is. But I remember the talk around mason was bang on. I take your point that if those boys are fit they are a good option. Hodgman has played 7 games across 2 years though.

That’s incorrect, he played 8 Super Rugby matches & 1 test match last year, and 7 Super Rugby matches this year
