Sione (PAC Rugby / Wests boy) was the announcer. I was surprised as generally speaking he's quite a character, probably needs more practice to help with variability and getting used to being on the loud PA system.

I still have no idea what was wrong with the Anderson try. I wish that whole thing was played on the PA system as I've never seen anything like that before and it would have been nice to know why it wasn't a try?
Ah yeah i do remember seeing him speaking, good to see them giving opportunities to groups like that but it's not an easy task, i also think there's a few different roles that need filling when it comes to that matchday.

But agree on the Anderson no-try, i agree it was a no-try but there was no communication with the fans in the stadium as to why... That's something the NRL and the bunker system do extremely well, they communicate the decision... but at rugby union matches it's deathly silence as the TMO reviews followed by a referee blowing his whistle and nothing said. In the age of professionalism, it's frankly a bit amateur.

Scorelines probably a fair reflection of where Australian Rugby is at these days. Just don't have the depth or class across the park of decades past, especially when you take a number of Wallabies out. NH nations have all improved so much comparatively. Too many Athletes running around in other codes to compete with a collective pulling from a population three times the size, not to mention pulling in players from other countries.
All of those things you said to justify your point may be true - but also consider that this was a domestic side missing a lot of first choice players, up against what should theoretically be close to the best test rugby side that can be assembled (not including your fantasy teams here, one that actually exists).

Probably don't need to be too despondent or analytical about this loss. It's quite literally 1st v 3rd grade.

It looked like he never had any control grounding it with his stomach and I THINK his right leg was also out at the same time as the grounding.
Second part doesn't matter if he's just grounding it - you can score a try while standing dead as long you never take possession of the ball. It was ruled dead before he got to it though, which was (unfortunately) the right call.

Right. Thanks for that.

Dumb question no.142 but how can you score if you haven't taken possession of the ball?

Whilst good to see grassroots getting a run in a position like that, it really wasn't good to the point he almost detracted from the experience. Really just zero energy.

I'm sure nerves play a part so hopefully with experience next time an opportunity like that arises he knocks it out of the park.

In saying that, the Lions fans really didn't contribute as much to the overall experience as I was expecting.

In my mind that is taking possession to deliberately force it. Anyway my brains got snagged on it and it wasn't a try so whatever.

Yeah, it's a bit of a weird one, but there's a specific law covering it so that there's no ambiguity:
21.9 If a player is in touch or touch-in-goal, they can make a touch down or score a try by grounding the ball in in-goal provided they are not holding the ball.

Crowd looked good, game was overall good and as expected.

I don't really understand the negativity from some about the performance. A side without it's best test players v a side of the best of their nations Test players. You will hang around for 50 mins but they can maintain a pace that is unsustainable for others. Was hoping the Reds could jag another try or two but not to be.

The Force and Reds are pointing out a few ares the Wallabies should try and target. The scrum is the first one and the next is pressure the 9 endlessly. If you can force slow ball or rushed ball you can stifle the ball getting past 12 because the Lions wingers are going to be a problem. Big and fast.
I can see how I would be coming across as negative but the experience itself was actually great. I’m just extremely interested and invested in the strengths and weaknesses of both teams. When you’re that cold and have a call with a bunch of engineers at 6:30am the next morning you do hope for a bit better of a showing but it was still worth the price of admission.

I think a pattern is emerging that the set piece isn’t as outstanding as we thought it would be for the Lions and they are a little bit softer through the middle than expected as well. Really hoping that trend continues for Tahs and Brumbies. Their strengths so far have been opposite to what I expected.

Seeing those Lions players get tested, even if only for a half was a great experience.

What's wrong with engineers? We're charming and socially adept!

I thought it was clearly not a try last night, but on replay this morning, I'm not so sure. The camera angles weren't great for the ref to make a decision. Very hard to tell if he touched the ball with his arms before his chest

(First image - maybe touching the ball? Second image - definitely touching the ball)

Conan is getting lots of plaudits but I thought he had a rather quiet game. Itoje and Morgan were my picks from the Lions forwards.

Had a lot of runs and was busy but seemed to miss a few tackles as well. When your'e the guy in the backfield returning kicks you get noticed more. The Locks were great for them. Itoje always gets praise but Chessum was huge IMO.

Yes, it hit the corner post just before he got there.

I thought the Lions chant that went up a couple of times sounded like an Aussie style chant. ie: one dimension and out of time and tune :D
I was expecting singing like most home nation matches, but I guess the 4 of them would need to agree on a song. Ain't no one but a Pom singing Swing Low.
