Nothing confirmed, but there's reports/rumours/murmurings that he's off to France at the end of the year..........

OK, so two burning questions for me.

1. Major sponsor
2. Captain

Annnnd.GO!
1. No idea
2. Stirzaker. Maybe Colby.

On the major sponsor, or at least somewhat related, I think the Rebels should go way harder with the jerseys - get their Stade on. Give yourself a point of difference, give sponsors some serious exposure, and have some fun with it.

Captain for me should be Colby. Off contract at the end of the season, but a truly undervalued player in aus Rugby - would give him a great reason to stay in Aus. A great fetcher, learnt as he led in the NRC and also provides some clarity/consistency around who is going to start in the back row.

I personally like a Sean/Jordy/Colby trio, with both Fugs & Thomson on the bench. LT at lock.

As for sponsors, from afar it appears as if its look increasingly likely to be the TGI Rebels!

That backrow combo, with LT at lock, leaves you exposed in the lineout with only one specialist jumper.........

Thomson will be a definite starter to fill the gap left by Higgers.

With that in mind too, maybe Thompson could be captain, but he is late to join the squad and you need someone who already has the team's respect.

He certainly has respect, but he's only here on a one year deal. Think the Club would look to someone established and in the leadership group to promote. That counts in little Red and Colby. I think competition in the back row will make it difficult for Colby to nail a perm starting spot. Little Red and Merlin would certainly start every week, unless injured.

Yeah don't see how Colby would be captain. Wouldn't make my XV personally and has to be doubt over a starting spot.

Colby will start in some capacity. He's a very good, and underrated, player. Backrow will probably be Thomson - McMahon - Colby. Fuglistaller and Reid can fight it out for the bench spot.

The captain should be picked with the aim to keep the role for at least the next three years. Stirzaker and Colby are the obvious candidates at this point, and they're clearly who the Rebels management have been looking at given the leadership roles they've assumed for the Rising.

Agree Colby is unlikely as he has a fight on his hands to even start. Want to see McMahon play 7 which makes it even harder for Colby.

I see Seany as captain in a few years (assuming he stays). He has captained before in Under 20's(?). Just needs a couple of years.

What's wrong with McMahon?

As captain? Maybe. He captained the U20s in the 2014 World Championships. But he's only 21, it's his third season of professional rugby, and I'd rather not have him loaded up with all the extra stuff captains have to deal with. He can take over in a few years time.

There's no evidence that the Rebels have been grooming him for a leadership role, unlike Stirzaker and Colby.

Sean, Colby & Jordy all jump? Jonesy obvious go to, but the others are all good lineout options...

Good lineout options? o_O

How many lineout takes did Fainga'a and Reid get last year? Were there any?

I think your lineout is screwed if that's the lineup you go with, but thankfully I doubt McGahan is that crazy, and Thomson will start...........

McMahon performed reasonably well as a third lineout option for the Rebels last year, but the two primary options were Jones and Higgers (who is an excellent no. 2 jumper).............

Higgers 37 L/O takes for the year, Sean 29 (in 1 less match, and with less avg game time per match).

I would put them on par as 2nd lineout options behind Jonesy.

Colby was the third option for the duration of the Rising season, and performed very well. Those saying he might not play very quickly forget the impact he had against the Brumbies off the bench in Canberra (crucial pilfer) and then the games he played against the Blues & Chiefs. His performances, and Jordy's, meant that Scotty F wasn't even in the 23 in Brisbane vs. the Reds.

It's a great problem to have too many quality back rowers.

Slim's right. The lineout was a major liability last year. Hopefully Hanson replacing Leafa will help somewhat in that regard.

Even a back-five of Jones, Timani, Thomson, McMahon, Fainga'a really only gives two and a half options. They're going to have to do some serious work scheme wise to overcome their deficiencies. If Thomson doesn't play then Timani will have to go to the backrow so a lock who can actually jump can come in.
