Interesting that in Tigers v Gallops Tuttle has been playing 10. Looks OK to (at this level). Has been driving the play - well what play isn't buried in the pigs in this game of mud.

PS He's kicking well too, putting them through from outside wide.

That will actually really help his game, that's exactly what he's missing at the moment is that running game and game management.

Hard to see them resign him, I think he will play this season but surely this has to effect his contact negotiations.

I don't know he's given his heart and soul to this team, I would like to see the club resign him, ultimately he was at least in the conversion for a Wallabies Jersey, some even had him starting. There is unlikely to be any physical reason why he can't get back to that level. I hope he goes away and gets himself right (just like any other injury) and is able to work his way back into the side.

Interesting to see they might be starting to position Rodda as a leader of the team.

I think it'll be a good thing Rodda looks like he's going to develop into a really good leader, he's been incredibly consistent and always fronts up with his best effort even when he's having a tough day.

I think all the other senior players have already been told of plans and if they are included.

I dont think Slipper will return, and if he does he wont be captain.

Rodda would be a good choice.

Reds are improving but seem to lack something. We have young backs and no one to direct them? Why couldn't we have kept someone for guidance!? These young men are good players but experience prevails. Who in the Reds backline can provide that?

I wonder if Daugunu or CFS will feature back in the Reds Matchday 23 this weekend? I have no idea (higher pay grade) then me how you get those 2 back in the lineup but if i'm going to be Couch Coach i'd love to see Lance on the chopping block. Move Stewart to 10 and then figure out a new fullback option (or bring back Toua to starting lineup)

A quality little story by Beau Robinson

It’s Monday afternoon and it’s grand final week. We’ve defeated the Auckland Blues at home on Saturday night to ensure the Super Rugby final will be hosted at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, on Saturday against the kings of Super Rugby, the Canterbury Crusaders.

We’ve had our unit reviews. We’ve done our gym and recovery sessions. Now it’s time to do the team review and preview for the big one, the grand final.

It’s a fairy-tale that the Queensland Reds even find themselves in this position, hosting a Super Rugby title. Totally unfathomable less than 24 months ago.

That was until the made 1 appointment that changed the fate of the players, the organisation and most importantly the members of the Queensland rugby community.

Head Coach Ewen McKenzie fronts the media before coming up to run the team meeting. He’s been in this situation before. Not once, but twice. This was when he was the Head Coach of the NSW Waratahs. In both instances he was unsuccessful. The opposition? Both times the Canterbury Crusaders.

The Crusaders are going for their 8th Super Rugby title, by far the most of any of the Super Rugby teams since the game went professional in 1996. They’ve won in 2005, 2006 & 2008 and have the likes of Dan Carter, Richie McCaw. Brad Thorn and Kieran Read, just no drop a few names.

Its an intimidating prospect to say the least. The Reds had been well below average for a number of years. This was the first time a lot of these guys had played finals football. We were by far the youngest squad in the competition.

Ewen addresses the team meeting:

“The media wants to portray us as the underdog. We’re not bloody underdogs. We’ve been the best team all year. We’ve knocked off all the teams that were in the finals this year. We’ve beaten these guys once this year and we’re going to do it again. I don’t want anyone in this room trying to play the underdog card. We’re the better team, we’ve earned the right to be favourites and we are and that’s what you will be saying to the media if asked” *

You could see the room sit up. We had been, and we were. We had earned that right. And if anyone doubted, which was understandable, they sure as hell didn’t now. I remember talking to a few blokes in the weeks after that and even the years after that about how that changed our mindset and our belief. It’s easy to go in and play the underdog card. It alleviates pressure. No one expects you to win so they aren’t as disappointed if you lose.

That’s loser talk.

A leader instils belief and confidence in their team. They erase doubts and disbeliefs in an organisation and the individuals within it. They get their team to reach their potential, whether in sport or business.

One thing's for sure after 13 Reds games in 2018: if Thorn does not get himself a better defence coach than McGahan has proved to be, the 2019 season will see only limited improvement in the Reds w-l%.

There may be more tries scored than in 2018, and perhaps a few more wins v middle and lower ranked teams, but with defence as it is today, they will be no chance of making the finals.

Nah, I disagree, while I have no particular love for McGahan, I think we can hardly judge anyone on this Reds team beyond the players individual performances. They are inconsistent yes, but we have seen some of the best defence we have had in years.

Nope this is totally wrong.

Some of the scores put on us are embarrassing. If the coach don’t want Quade Cooper in his side due to his defensive liability but then you have hurricanes putting 38, tahs putting 50+ and Sunwolves putting 60+ on us... then you gotta ask yourself... would Quade defensive liabilties equal that much bigger of a score line put on us or would the inclusion of Quade help us match these score lines.

I honestly feel sick at some of these results zero cool... I see the light at the end of the tunnel. But the scorelines have been embarrassing

Only the Sunwolves have conceded more tries this year. The Reds looked good in attack but you're not going to win many conceding 8 tries. The pack is very strong and the attack has improved dramatically, so fix up the defence and could be in for a bright future

Could be Slipper talking about his situation?

The time to do it would be now for him.

The rugby narrative will quickly move to other priorities this month.

100% SX.

And what the Tahs loss showed is that, 13 games of practice in, we have not improved our defence in any meaningful way.

That is a specialist coaching indictment, not these silly theories that somehow specialist AC coaches cannot be evaluated after 13 Super games.
