That's a really good outcome for the program and a reflection of their value. I really wish RA could come up with something that was commercially valuable built around women's Rugby. The Aon 7s is good but these girls are probably our most marketable group of players and deserve to be provided with every opportunity to demonstrate their ability and build their profile. Would love to see a Professional Womens 7s circuit and a double round robin SuperW with those girls compensated for their efforts as well.

I've always thought that using Women's Sevens as curtain raisers, HT, and post-match content at Super Rugby games would be a good shout.

Also, a 2, 3 or 4-week summer series (men's and women's) across Christmas in AU & NZ, with franchises and an international player draft would be a good shout. WR (World Rugby) could sanction, killing World 12's at the same time if XVs players wanted to feature.

Only as a 2nd tier option for development players. The girls are already on a world stage with the HSBC series & shouldn't be put up as a curtain raiser.

There is already an Oceania 7's that's a better option that a Super Rugby based comp.

Hopefully with the extra money the AON series can expand & be promoted more.

Jamaica a late call up to replace Manu Samoa but Fiji left in the draw for the Malaga with 3 points & 0-0 to their opponents in the group stage but maybe to arrive in time for the placement matches.

Well done to the ppl at world rugby for getting an almost full tournament up & going with teams dropping like fly's

It looks like the date for kiwis to bypass MIQ from anywhere in the world is March 13:

WR (World Rugby) have made changes to Oceania's Comm Games & R7WC qualifying:

"It has been confirmed that the rankings from the 2020/21 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series and 2019 Oceania Rugby Sevens Championship will be used to determine the men’s and women’s Oceania Rugby qualification for the 2022 Commonwealth Games and Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022.

"This comes as ongoing logistical challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic forced organisers to cancel a qualification tournament scheduled for April 2022.

"As a result, Tonga will join Australia, Samoa, Fiji and New Zealand in the men’s event at the Commonwealth Games, while Olympic bronze medallists Fiji join Australia and New Zealand in the women’s competition. The 2022 Commonwealth Games rugby sevens competition will take place in Birmingham, England on 29-31 July.

"For Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022, which will be hosted in Cape Town, South Africa on 9-11 September, Australia, Samoa and Tonga will join New Zealand and Fiji in the men’s competition with Fiji joining Australia and New Zealand in the women’s event."

Correct. Heading to Fiji for some warm-up matches & a tournament then back on the circuit.

Edit: steps 1 & 2 of the border re-opening got brought forward. Hopefully stages 3-5 will, too, there surely being no greater risk from a fully-vaxxed kiwi flying in from Aus or wherever & a fully-vaxxed non-kiwi coming in on the same flight.

Australian Sevens breakout player Corey Toole has this month put pen to paper on a new contract committing to the Australian program through until the end of the 2022 season.

Toole has been on loan to the Sevens program from the Brumbies Academy since 2021. He made his World Series debut in Dubai last year and has since gone on to be a standout member of not only the Australian side but also the World Series.

^ watching NZ men get thrashed by Fiji Barbarians. Very wet & ground cutting up between the 22's. I have no idea what happened earlier & looks like there's maybe one game left (coverage ends in 25 minutes).

Edit: Australia running out v Fiji Warriors. Green & black v turquoise & black. Not confusing at all once one allows for the mud...

Following another intense weekend of qualifying action we now know the identity of 12 women's and 20 men's teams who will compete at RWC Sevens 2022.

Seven teams to qualify in total & "Meanwhile, details of the dedicated qualification event to confirm the four men’s and four women’s teams in Europe will be announced in due course."

North America qualifiers are Canada & Jamaica men, Canada women. African qualifiers are Uganda, Zimbabwe & Kenya men, women's tournament this weekend.
