Sydney Colts Season 2013 is all over bar the shouting.

Time to start the Season 2014 wang.

Any movements in the Coaching ranks?

What Clubs are the 2013 Year 12 graduates going to?

Will the Mighty Two Blues momentum from 2013 carry through to 2014?

Will Gordon stop the rot and have the numbers to register 3 Colts teams?

Pre-Season training will start soon in many clubs after a short break.

Obviously as everyone knows Tony Dempsey is Head Colts coach at Gordon next year. Expect to see a lot of Riverview boys go there. A realistic aim for them would be 2 teams, would be great to see 3 either in 2014 or 2015.

Parramatta recruited mainly from the 2012 Oakhill 1st XV and the 2012 U17's, so most players will be 19 or 20 next year. Expect to see them go even better. Test for them will be to create depth in the 2nd and 3rd Colts competitions.

Manly and Uni to be the top 2 in 1sts again, Manly will have a lot of players coming back for a 2nd year (O'Connor, Carolan, Philip, Lloyd, Natoil, Hodge, Foketi). Except for Carolan, will have the luxury of the other players being Manly juniors and there shouldn't be any points problems.

Word around the traps is that Uni are looking to get Matt Sandell (Joeys) and Hamish Dunbar (Scots).

Big improvers will be Randwick - had a young team and will be boosted by a lot of Scots boys going there next year.

Expect a good showing from Warringah again next year. Decent numbers already indicated & a good setup in place. A couple of very handy players aswell. Most will be fresh out of school so the next 2 years should look after themselves

Most Newington boys will be going to either Gordon, Randwick, Easts or Uni. The likes of Joey, Tepai and Tanne will be unforunately going to League.

Really? Do you know this for certain?
A significant number from Newington last year went to Northern Suburbs.

After the eyes are picked out of the Aust Schoolboys and NSW I and II's by the main predators, the remaining graduates from the various schools tend to hunt in packs, and if a club can land a ringleader from a school, they can then land 4 or 5 of his mates under the BroCode rule "I just want to play with my mates".

If that is a positive experience for those lads in the first year of Colts, then the clubs stand a good chance of retaining those boys into Grade. The converse applies.

Gentlemen,

The below has appeared on the Emus forum but as most of it details our U20 Colts Academy developments for 2014 I've reposted it here too.

SCHOOLS TEST MATCH THIS FRIDAY

Just a reminder to the Penrith DJRU & Western Sydney Rugby faithful that FIJI VS NZ SCHOOLS are playing this Friday night 27th September at St Mary's Stadium (St Mary's). The curtain raiser match of PDJRU U20 Academy Colts vs PDJRU U20 Academy Barbarians kicks off at 5pm and the main game at 7pm.

Penrith U20 Academy Team Official Nominations 2014
All nominations for coaches, managers, & specialist positions with the PDJRU U20 Colts academy (Colts I, II, OR III) need to be to the secretary by 1.10.13. All positions are vacant.

New PDJRU Academy Team Kit Supplier - Team RHINO

The PDJRU Academy has signed a 3 year deal with Team Rhino to supply all our playing strip and off field merchandise for our u10's to u20's. A link to the Team Rhino on line shop will also be on the new website.

PDJRU U20 Colts Academy Pre season Training

A reminder & invitation to all PDJRU U20 Colts Academy players that training for all new & existing players commences at Nepean Rugby Park on the 1st of November 2013. Training will then continue every Wed & Fri from 7pm - 8.30pm.

NEW Training Days for PDJRU U20 ACADEMY COLTS in 2014

As per the above the colts training nights for 2014 have been switched to wed & fri avoiding any clashes with the training nights for local rugby league. This also allows all players to play union on saturday and league on sunday if they so desire. Also in 2014 a bus will run from Mt Druit & Penrith Station to Nepean Rugby Park on training nights.

2014 PDJRU U20 Colts Academy Pre Season Trials

Details of 2014 pre season trial matches for Colts I, II, & III will be finalised asap. At this stage we look like having bus trips to Canberra, 1 country venue (TBA), & 2 Sydney metro trials. As usual buses will be provided to all PDJRU U20 Colts Academy away matches in 2014.

NEW PDJRU Academy website is coming.

Check out https://www.facebook.com/PenrithDistrictJuniorRugbyUnion for all Academy updates and the new website should be up and running in the next 2 weeks.

Yes I have close contact with some of these boys and it was highlighted that they were going to their respective league clubs.

There were a few that went to Norths last year from Newington due to more of a social thing whereas they were a few that went to Gordon and Randwick.

^^Not Sure I understand the indexing totally, mapping jumper numbers to players but are you suggesting that:

a. one of the Terrific Twins is NOT going to Fivekick? Milne/Moeroa were 12 and 13 weren't they?
b. Cannell to Randwick (#4) - Former Gordon junior and Schoolboy rep.
c. Morris/Mill to NZ? (#6) kiwi qualified or is he going over there to be toughened up in the ways of the Darkness?
d. Mill is from the gong but isn't he a 6. Is Morris also Illawarra boy?

Which loosie has the Darkness pinched from us, and is he permanently gone?
Have the Highlanders missed out on Cannell?
Has one of Moeroa/Milne decided to stay in Rugby?

I'm all confused. Natural state of affairs, some say.

Why post? Cause I am genuinely seeking clarity.

Many have stated that both Milne and Moeroa are off to <insert car maker> cup next year.
GPSrow post seems to contradict this. Good news for our game if true.

If Cannell is the #4 that is off to Randwick, then this is good recruiting by Poido and co, as I would have thought Gordon (emotional plea) or Uni (usual reason) would have been keen to grab him. I think Cannell also played #8 for some games for NEW, in which case Gordon/Norths makes sense.

I don't know if I have Mill mixed up with Morris. I know one is from the Gong. Didn't know either had kiwi connections. Morris has NGS connections. Surprised if they let him go to NZ, but there may be long term development opportunities not available here for him.

I wouldn't discard Souths out of discussions on players and where they are going
Still early days but some quality players have indicated they are interested plus a few high quality Kiwi players logged jammed behind others.

I think Tepai played 13 and Milne played 15 at the end of the season but I agree it is an annoying post from GPSrow.

<snip>

PS. you heard it here first, Sydney Uni will not be the focal point of the Aus Schools players this year. Be very ready to watch many of this years stars head to other clubs, with Uni likely to struggle to pick up many of the star players! I am hearing the NSW academy will actively encourage players to play 1st grade colts in order to keep game time up, which will get alot of the players heading to the Gordon's/Norths/Warringah's of the world to make sure they aren't riding the pine behind the current crop of mega stars at Camperdown!

A thought provoking post from Buster. Have we reached a point where market forces kick in where the up and coming decide that the benefits of exposure in 1st Grade or 1st Colts are more important than the Uni package where they may have to patiently bide their time in lower grades.

Thanks for the update with names against the numbers. It makes a lot more sense.

Good to see many of the boys returning to their junior club area.

Is Morris a Kiwi or have kiwi connections?
