I've heard a few whispers that there were some surprises in the Gordon v Corporation games last night

Uni won 1st colts 28-27
2nd colts went to Uni by significant margin

3rd Colts was a great win to Gordon .

Can't give you scores- that's what happens when you rely on a student to take notes!!

Thanks "oh great Learned One". I'm assuming said student is doing lines after class ;)

That 1st game must have been a cracker - curse that damned weather, and the tyranny of distance. Would have loved to be there.

In 1st Colts - Gordon scored 5 tries to 4 but goal kicking let them down with 1 from 6 attempts. Uni led 21-5 at half time. The young Gordon side troubled the Students in what was a great game of rugby.

Uni Twitter says:

Colts 2: Uni 41 - Gordon 12
Colts 3: Gordon 10 - Uni 0
Colts 4: Uni 22 Gordon 17

Not only have Gordon recruited numbers this year, but they have retained many of last years teams and supplemented it with quality lads (many former Gordon Juniors). Full credit to them for nearly doing what the Beasties did to The Corporation in Grade 1 at Bowral.

Round 4 Tips:
4 1/2 from 6 last week, but my margins were wildly off (again), apart from 1 which was on the money, and nothing to do with any comparison to the accuracy of a broken analogue clock.

The Corporation vs Highlanders must have been a belter of a game, and I think that the boys from Chatswood have probably done no favours for Manly who may feel a Student backlash. The Heavyweights should all have comfortable victories with the most interesting games likely at Chatswood Oval and TG Millner.

Eastern Suburbs v Southern Districts. The Hobbits have had a solid pre-season and a relatively easy start to the competition, although the M2B made them work for the chocolates in round 2. Beasties surprised last week in the rain against MMM, but I can't seem them repeating the effort this week against the shoeless lads from the Shire. Hobbits by 15-20.

Eastwood v Warringah. Woodies haven't had the best of starts to the season and the Rats will probably be feeling a little shellshocked from back to back to back games in the heavyweight division. Rats will be looking forward to their first game in their preferred weight division but I can see the Woodies taking full advantage of the home ground to register a narrow victory by < 7. Probably the match of the round.

Gordon v West Harbour. Provided Team Rehab Selectors haven't come knocking on the door at Chatswood, The Highlanders will fancy their chances against the Pirates, motivated by their narrow mid week loss against The Corporation. The Pirates have had a fairly tough opening campaign this year and this weekend will be more of the same for them. The front row battle should be worth the price of admission and Tommy Sawden will be an absolute pest to the Highlanders at set piece time but the revitalised strength and depth of the Gordon roster see them will grind out a clinical 15-20 point victory.

Manly v Sydney University. The Corporation are human after all. While they were rolled twice last year by the Red and Black Machine from North Sydney Oval, they seldom have back to back bad days at the office and Manly can expect to see The Corporation field a side full of returning U20 players, and they will probably not have the depth of talent to match an angry mob from Camperdown for the full 80 minutes. I suggested last week that, on the back of their thrashing of the Emus, that the MMM may have been foxing in their trial against the Wicks. Seems that MMM may have been foxing with their performance against the Emus. It there is a good stiff southerly blowing, Fisho's windows are vulnerable for a repeat performance. http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/community/threads/sydney-colts-2014.13428/page-24#post-594605 Buildcorp by plenty.

Penrith v Northern Suburbs. The Shoremen haven't been troubled so far this year and will be looking to declare their innings closed for 3 figures without having to send any bowlers out to the crease. Hopefully the Coaching staff at Nepean Rugby Park have been instructing their charges in the finer points of executing a rugby tackle within the laws of the game and we don't see Sir fishing into his pocket to show off the collection of colourful cards that he keeps there. Red and Black by a massive margin.

Randwick v Parramatta. Wicks continue on their path to stake their claims for Back to Back Premierships with three 60 point victories so far. There is more to come from the Gallopers as their U20 rockstars return, and the scary thing is that there are still some good'uns in Team Rehab to come back to the starting lineup in later rounds. The M2B have had a fairly tough start to the season with no easy games so far to help them to bed in their systems and structures, and there will be no respite for them this weekend. Wicks will canter home and grab the chocolates by > 20.

I missed the 1sts and 4ths.
3rd Grade was dour with lots of refereeing. Gordon defended really well.
Except for a short period in the 1st half Uni did not pose any threats that I could see. Gordon just shut them out. Well done.
2nds was a clear win to Uni but Gordon had their moments.
A very different Gordon this year. Well done to all concerned.

Can one of you good people advise where I can park at the Manly fixture this Sunday? It has been 20 years since I last drove a vehicle to Manly. Thanks

Here is a link to the council parking stations (you have to pay): http://www.manly.nsw.gov.au/council/parking/publicparkingstations/
Alternatively you could pay to park under the Quest building (entry is in Gilbert street) or under the Wharf (entry is off West Esplanade). All these are a short walk to the oval.
Free parking is very limited. Some spots may be available in the Raglan Street carpark next to the oval. You could try street parking up the top of Raglan Street or Sydney Road and walk.
Wherever you park, you are assured of a great day at the Village Green!

Colts 1 - Round 3

Eastwood v West Harbour (Concord Oval)

Score: Draw 22-22

Match Report
Over the course of the last three weeks the team has continued to improve and were unlucky to end up with a draw on Saturday.

We started very strongly with 2 very well taken tries executed on the blind side to take an early 10-0 lead. A missed conversion attempt in front of the posts proved crucial.

The forwards set a strong platform by dominating the lineout on both our ball and the opposition throw. One of our tries came off a lineout set play that left West Harbour baffled.

As the game progressed in wet conditions, we began to struggle with the sheer size of the Wests forward pack that gradually wore us down through continuous pick and drive allied to poor discipline on our part.

Into the wind, we struggled to get out of our half for the first 15 minutes of half 2. Lots of credit must go the scrambling defensive efforts that kept us in the game.

A breakout try against the run of play left us with a 7 point lead before West Harbour powered over through some weak fringe defence to level the scores at 22-22.

Overall another improved performance but we certainly failed to convert 2 try scoring opportunities in the game. Decision making and execution of basic skills over the 80 minutes let us down. It was a good education for the players in terms of how to play wet weather football.

Try Scorers Mark Quadrio, Daniel Cosgrove, Matthew Bartholomew and James Sarks.
Conversion Rohan Zebib.

Thank you to all of the second grade players who backed up for first grade.

Colts 2 - Round 3

Eastwood v West Harbour (Concord Oval)

Score: Eastwood 17 def West Harbour 15

Match Report
Despite the better start, first points went to Wests via a PG. As the game progressed, encouraging signs from the work on set pieces, as the Woods 4 man line out saw Henry Walkerdenat the front, earn a quick thinking try. Just prior the break, Wests struck back through sustained pressure on a try line, going to the break Woods behind 5-8.

The trend continues with 2nds coming out with a stronger start in the second half. From a kick deflection, cool juggling of the ball by Cameron Daniels, found Jacob Bamford busting down the sideline in support. A timely return pass back inside saw Cameron finish off for a well-deserved try, converted by Lachlan Croese , Woods 12-8. Wests hadn’t finished with us, as they snatched the lead again, thought their forwards barging their way up the middle, try converted Woods 12 -15.

Great to see 2nds lift in the last 5 minutes though some rampaging runs from forwards - Nareg Nazarian, Michael Arapidis & Duncan Ryan. That forward lead up work gave our 10, Lachlan Croese precious time to find our centre, Mason McKertich, who crossed the line to seal 2nds first win of the season.

Best and Fairest: 3 Points Zack Simpson. 2 Points Jackson Unmack. 1 Lachlan Croese

Colts Preview and Teams - Round 4 (11 April 2015)

Eastwood v Warringah @ T.G.Milner Field, Eastwood

Colts 3
Colts 3 lost to West Harbour 15 – 28 at Concord last Saturday. Warringah did not play last weekend and have forfeited their first two games. They are expected to have a team this weekend and so it will be their first game of the year. Eastwood will need to expect the unexpected in looking for their first win.

Colts 2
Colts 2 got their first win of the season in a thriller, beating Wests 17 – 15. Warringah have lost their two games so far this year and Eastwood will be looking for back to back wins and their first win at Millner.

Colts 1
It was another close affair for Colts 1 finishing with a 22 all draw against West Harbour, and getting their first 4 try bonus point. This result follows on the close finish against Gordon the week before and continues the improvement from the team. This week Josh Nohra comes back from Grade to strengthen the side at Full Back.

Warringah Colts 1 are winless and will be wanting to take their first win this season. Eastwood with a close loss and a draw in the last two weeks will be looking to take the next step and get their first win of the season.

A good day at TG for our Colts is expected.
