my predictions for the first week of finals - albeit I think some are a given:
ones and two the same scenario:
uni v woods
wix v easts
Gordon v norths

threes:
wix v norths
uni v easts
woods v souths

Still playing for finals spots this weekend in all grades - will be interesting.

I seams a ridiculous time of year for the six teams in each grade that are finishing their season this week. About 500 signed up for a season and finish 1/2 way through winter. I am sure this was discussed earlier but a 7-8 month off season is a stretch long enough to find something else to do with your winter next year especially if you are playing because you enjoy it.

However many clubs start preseason in November! So not such a long lay off!

Gordon, 691 points*
Eastwood, 596 points

Southern Districts, 464 points

Manly, 343 points*
West Harbour, 258 points

How the Colts Club Championship table is calculated.
The competition points from the individual competitions are multiplied by the following factors and then added together.

* Score from Highlanders v MMM in Colts 2 to come. This could be up 1to 15 points for Gordon which would put them in the Bronze Medal position.

2016 Colts Club Champions
Sydney University

Randwick have sewn up the Silver Medal for 2016.

The race for 3rd is believed to be won by Gordon, but the deferred game result (15 Championship points to Gordon) has not been officially calculated.

18 rounds is 8 rounds more than most school competitions, and 4 rounds more than the SJRU season.

Many of the Colts 1 boys will play in NRC Development teams (assuming the NSW NRC teams run them again this year).

If you are going to count "trials" in the season for Schools, then you need to add up to 4 weeks of "trials" for Colts, and 3 weeks extra for finals (6/12 teams) that Schools don't play.

I like to watch

David Codey (61)
The convo was about the 6 teams finishing today.
But Ill concede most clubs play 2 or 3 trials,
Only 2 teams in the comp last the next 3 weeks, 10 do not.

It Strikes me that this year's competition was pretty even between 3rd and 8th. The teams successful in making it to the last 6 have been masters of their own destiny. the luck of the draw however may have excluded a worthy team from the final series (it may not have this year I am just discussing potential)
the NRC and colts would have minimal, not Zero, impact on each other. I see no reason why the u20 competition could not be completed as a full season as any other comp with 12 competitors. If there is a NRC development team comp it would impact mostly on clubs that might be guilty of warehousing players

HJ,
Would you know if there's any reason why SRU don't share the finals around? As in 4 clubs get a final each this year, then 4 other clubs next year etc.? Then each club get a shot at hosting which also means picking up extra coin for their respective canteens.

Good point about spreading things around.

Merrylands RSL Park and Nepean Rugby Park both have 2 full size ovals that could knock all 9 colts QF's off in one longish day. No problem with parking, and no one could complain about a lower ranked team having a home venue advantage.

Kippax Oval and Bus Loop at Moore Park or the SBHS ovals (McKay Fields) in Centennial Parklands could do likewise as a double oval neutral venue.

Think even more laterally. How many temporary ovals could you set up in the middle of Randwick Racecourse? It was good enough for the Pope.

You should ask your club GM to query it with Matt Kellahan.

Apparently the issue was raised with the NSWRU administrator last week, but the response seems to have been little more than a series of excuses that sought to lay the blame fairly and squarely on the Fusesport system - along the lines of 'the system has faults', and 'the front end and the back end don't seem to be communicating very well'.

So, 18 Rounds into the competition, the organisation that manages things has finally acknowledged that their monitoring/management system isn't working the way it should. Well bugger me! The issue of dodgy PPs was identified in this forum after Round 4, but 14 weeks down the track, when it appears that 1 club in particular has made an absolute mockery of the system throughout the year, the response is that the system's at fault! The NSWRU even go so far as to say that they've audited the games that were questioned but didn't find any breaches of the rules. I'm not technically adept enough to engage in a discussion about the pros and cons of the system they use, but it seems a bit odd to me that they would wait until this point in the season to acknowledge that their system doesn't work properly - and the breaches seem to be pretty obvious to anyone who cares to look!

And strangely enough, while this 'fault' within the system has been left unrepaired, it seems that 11 of the 12 teams in the 2nds Colts competition haven't experienced the same 'problems' with their PP as the team in question. And in the end, it got them nowhere.

Karma's a funny thing, isn't it!

You can bet your bottom dollar that if the potential breaches had been committed by one of the two Clubs that share a land border with the club in question then things would have been auctioned pretty quickly, rather than being swept under the carpet as an anomaly of the system, front end, back end, or top end.

If a club operating on the smell of an oily rag, with zero rock stars and dwelling in the cellar of the table in all 3 grades doesn't seem to have any difficulty submitting their team sheets, one has to wonder how a club with the resources to attract high PP recruits struggles to do likewise.

Like many things in rugby administration, whinging about the alleged injustice on here may feel good, but in the cold light of the day sweet FA will be done about it.

The player points system is crook and may have outlived its usefulness. For every new measure introduced, clubs will find ways to skirt the intent of the cap. Talented players will always be attracted to clubs that they perceive are best placed for them to achieve their goals, usually of winning a premiership or gaining selection into Rep squads, academies, reduce commuting time to training, or simply to be with their mates from school.
