100% agree with TWAS. "Potential" is the key word in that sentence. Something that was missing in Bob Dwyer's article.

It should have read:
"But I've no doubt that we are more of a chance to win the World Cup with Kane Douglas playing to his perceived potential than we are with James Horwill playing at his current good form"

The group really need to be a team to win this thing. No division between coaches, support staff and players, the WHOLE squad.

Petty tribalism put aside etc etc. and I believe that has happened.

There are starters, "finishers" and guys not in the match day 23.

I know in years past (the last few anyway) the total match payments were divided equally between the whole squad. Personally I think that system is great

I hope that doesn't change.

Tribalism? I think the worst selections are Genia and Douglas. What Super Rugby team are they linked to?

Exactly Train. What, 2 blokes out of 30+ Suppose add in Gits and Drew

Why are you so down on Genia and Douglas. Genia, in his day, is the best half in the world AND he has had some reasons for his 3 year form lapse. Douglas has huge potential.

A level of reasonablness required.;)

I reckon......

Time to put a little faith in the guy who has brought us our first win over the AB's in 4 years , our first 3n\RC in 4 years, and our first convincing win over the AB's since 2008

I also reckon he knows a little more about selecting the team and the players involved than most here

Time to put our faith in him and our support behind the team - no matter who is in it.

sure, but you cannot simply use *this* as your rebuttal. After all, there will be times when it is completely apt.

(I'm not saying you are right or wrong in this case, just pointing out the limitations of this line)

He's also a human. He will make a number of mistakes, much like every single coach does.

Because I had this crazy expectation that players who are performing well (when compared to the alternatives) would be selected.

Certainly debatable about the form of Phipps and White and that of Genia. Suppose Genia has the POTENTIAL to be better than both.

I do agree that your mate should have gone as he gas been the best performing lock in 2015 wearing the Green & Gold. Someone else has mentioned the POTENTIAL of Douglas (but I actually discount that therory)

On form, it's not that debatable............

The other two have clearly outshone Genia over the course of 2+ seasons..........

As for potential, maybe, but it's been a long time since we've seen it.

I'm sure Cheika has his sound reasonings behind such selections, but whether they turn out to be right - we'll have to wait and see..............

I'm not sure you can pick on potential over form for an upcoming tour.

If we are talking about players breaking into the squad fair enough, over time you may benefit from getting a player to their potential.

Is that going to occur before the first RWC game if it hasn't already? Pretty doubtful.

Everyone is surprised by Horwill's exclusion and Douglas' inclusion.

Horwill's issue in Cheika's eyes seems to be that he wasn't in his top two loose head locks in terms of calling the lineout etc. Simmons and Mumm were picked ahead of him here. He also didn't have the physicality and impact that Cheika wants from his tight head lock. Skelton and Douglas have been picked here.

Clearly Cheika is taking a risk that Douglas doesn't produce the sort of form at the RWC that would justify his inclusion. It's Cheika's risk to take though.

The problem people have is it's based on Mumm not getting the opportunity to fail running the line out with less options.

Also it's that based on what he did in his one cameo and his whole season in the UK, Douglas doesn't have the impact and physicality Cheika apparently wants from his TH Lock.

Obviously he stats don't measure impact and work off the ball but he seldom carried and for minimal gain.

In the first 2 home tests (Vodacome App doesn't seem to have the non TRC games) Horwill has 12 carries for 24m.

In Douglas' 20 games in Ireland he had 2.4 carries per game for 1.83m per carry. Hardly compelling stuff. He did average around 6.25 tackles per game and missed 0.9 per game. But in a number of games multiple players were making 10+ tackles per game indicating a slower and tighter contest.

He also averaged less than 1 line out take per game.

Is this a good option to partner Simmons when Pocock is our best number 8 option?

Fuck he must he those rucks hard I guess.

Yes Cheika has to live by his results. But this is a once in a 4 year tournament. What about the fans and their hopes which may not be achieved because of poor selection. Just say "Oh well, Cheiks jobs on the line. If you don't like it don't watch"?

He surely isn't being picked on his form in Ireland.

I wonder what his stats were in the super xv 2014?
