Western Force 2022

In simple terms given force got by evidence for on field results recruitment right in face of lot of criticism for recruitment of older players etc which proved a materstroke

They came 3/5 in SRAu, 8/10 in SRTT and won 4 games for the year. I'd hardly say those on the field results are something to crow about and it definitely is not a masterstroke.

In simple terms given force got by evidence for on field results recruitment right in face of lot of criticism for recruitment of older players etc which proved a materstroke I think they deserve to be cut a little slack on their due diligence. Let’s face it chasing Ferguson carries some divided views but could prove to be a master stroke. My point being maybe you have the odd Ferguson recruitment risk which is ok as long as having more of the recruitment of the Rodda type players. My point being it is tough market for talent and players who have marketing / fan appeal so got to take odd calculated risks. The force have enough street cred to take a risk on recruiting Ferguson if they choose and negate the negative Nancy’s jumping on the off riskier prospect who miss the big picture.

I thought Kearney, Holmes etc were good additions because they're experienced rugby players and i said so from day one.

Ferguson is a different kettle of fish altogether because he is an inexperienced rugby player, i just see greater value by spending that money on a different players, doesn't make me a negative nancy for holding that opinion.

The Western Force was all set up to be in GRR in 2020 with a team which was to be competitive in that competition yet not dominate (for the sake of the new competition).

The entry into SRAu in 2020 was thrust upon the franchise at late notice and it recruited during Covid times from whoever was available.

In 2021, the WF recruited for SRAu - with no notice that SRTT would be part of the equation.

Some might suggest that to be the only Oz team to defeat the Reds and finish in front of the Rebels and the Tahs in both competitions and be competitive (best points differential of all Oz teams) against the NZ teams was a pretty good result.
We're all allowed to have differing views regarding the degree of any accolade.

They were very competitive in most games and continued to improve. My yardstick is comparison to results and performance from year before. And with continued good recruiting I have confidence they will continue on their current trajectory of improvement. I think it was a master stroke to recruit those older players as I noted in games they were not there they looked a little loss. I think you underestimate how much their experience helps other players. But that is ok we all have our different views and don’t have to agree with each other.

I am on the fence about Ferguson but if they do their due diligence and take a punt I would be ok with that but as I said I would not want 3 Ferguson type punts...as yes want as much as possible to recruit proven rugby players but I think given war for talent you have to take the odd risk.

Bugger. While he was probably No 3 LHP at the Brumbies, he got a lot of game time due in juries to Sio and Slipper, and on occasions when Slipper played at No 3. I really rate Harry as one of the best of the next generation of props and will miss him.

I wonder if the move by half our backline and now Harry back West indicates that the Force are offering premium contracts or if the Brumbies are having trouble salary cap-wise with their large component of Wallabies?

Don't know about that but I think starting spots, and also know the coach over there as alot of them would have played under Tim at the Vikings.

Good luck to them, Force is a good place to make a name for themselves as most where fringe Brumbies last season.
