I disagree on both counts, though i've only seen a few Chiefs and Hurricanes games. Neither has impressed me at all. Average players all round.

Ta'avao has a really strong workrate. He was excellent in the Mitre 10 Cup in particular. I think he is only serviceable at Super Rugby level though and I don't think the Tahs have lost anything in him leaving. I would prefer Vui on the books as the reserve THP than still having Ta'avao.

Lousi is good at certain things and would certainly be in the Waratahs best 23 now if he was still at the Tahs. That says more about the quality of the Tahs locks than it does about Lousi though.

I agree that he isn't a world beater. He probably wouldn't be in my top 8 NZ locks.

I think Rona is a good chance of playing 13 but I completely agree TK has always produced better form in the tests and he'll likely look much better playing with a better backline.

My main worry about TK this season has been his defence has seemed to go backwards and he has made some poor reads and one on one misses. If that isn't up to scratch then I'd definitely consider starting Rona.

Some have said this but the worst I've seen was when dragaville sold him up the river coming in and then he was in a foot race with Ben Smith after he stuttered..hiding to nothing..but mostly I think it's around him has been rubbish.. Attack has been poor..i just think he deserves the chance in a decent backbine..his earned that right

It's players like Pete Samu, Ala'alatoa, etc. that concern me more. Young lads who either couldn't develop here or thought they would have a better chance developing in NZ.

I think you are fundamentally wrong here, Ta'avao is a long way better than he was at the Tahs or the Blues. Lousi similarly struggled to make any impression at the Tahs. Wether people want to say it is individual attitude or whatever, it is obvious the culture and environment at NZ teams is such that they are able to achieve their potential, if these two were the first or second such improvements we could argue they are an anomaly, but add in other players like Nadolo and it becomes undeniable.

Apparently, no player can improve after being in the Tahs' setup. I would previously thought that meant they had been so spoiled that no amount of coaching could bring about improvement. But given the likes of Taavao and Lousi, I'm starting to believe it means that intrinsically they are very good players who, though they never showed it at the Tahs, had absorbed all there is to know about their games and just couldn't be improved in another setting.

I think the rule of thumb is dont assume a bloke cant play just because he looks crap in the Tahs setup

Oh yes, I agree TK's Super/Test form is often very different but I was more trying to say Rona is one of the few players who I've watched and thought "gee he's been doing pretty well." Compare this to Koroibete and Hodge where I've mostly thought "what's happened to you."
