They won’t drop Cheika but I’d ditch all three assistants and if minic 2015 and look to appoint Super Rugby coaches to support next year. Weasels, Thorn and Gibson.
Get a neutral selection team in there too. Some guys have played their last test surely.
Unfortunately we only have four tests to go before we start the RWC against Fiji (who just beat France) and Ealea (who just beat South Africa).
Whatever we do we are massively behind where we need to be.

The assistant coaches havent been up to it from the start, and there are a few people around who could do a better job. Plus, it might not break the bank.
We'd still have to deal with Cheika losing it every time a ref blows against his team, but eh, might see some improvement.
They have to do something though. Doing nothing would just be ridiculous.

Anyone, even you. Least it might give us some changes and it's worth the gamble instead of the predictable rubbish being served up now. Or is this about making sure the Wallbies inevitable loss is prolonged beyond the group stage to maximise the financial return? I would guess the latter as it fits with the philosophy of RA and it's cohort of fuck the supporter, take the cash.

A couple of random reflections -
- for all the criticism of Folau one thing I noticed in this game is how our kicking game is letting him down. The number of times that he positioned himself for a well placed kick and the kick was off target.
- our set piece has deteriorated badly
- I don’t see any improvement having To'omua at 10 over Foley. But Foley sure isn’t a 12. The only things he contributes there are things he was doing at 10 when he slipped into second receiver. Either play them the other way around or ditch Foley and give To'omua the opportunity with a decent 12. I really hope either Cooper or Stewart or hopefully both kill it next year.
- our defensive system is setting players up to fail.
- Fardy & Higgers, and to a lessor extent Timu, should feel unjustly treated
Surely the only thing keeping Cheika in his job at this time could be a lack of suitable replacements. His attack strategy is easily coverred and lacks penetration, his defence strategy is a mess. There is no evidence that I can see that the team is developing towards a higher level of performance.
His assistants are, understandably, coming under fire - and fair enough - but he heads this shit show up and, unless he can somehow facilitate a massive turn around across the whole program then replacing the support crew is just shuffling deck chairs.

True. It will take an extraordinary talent to be able to beat Cheika's record of 9 test losses in a calendar year. He has achieved it twice. The only two times in 120 years of the Wallabies.

I think the drums are beating way too loudly for there to be any resistance to change now. Either the assistants or the head coach has to go (maybe both). It's gone well beyond the stage of being acceptable or for the excuses to wash any more. I don't think anyone will want to write off the RWC next year, but realistically unless there is a dramatic change in the structure I can't think of why you would even bother sending the team.

Change will create new beginnings... and new beginnings is the only worthwhile way to proceed for the Wallabies... time for leadership change, time for the coach to take responsibility for failing on the field and building strong provincial relationships between the super teams... Cheika has failed to develop new Wallabies in key positions over the past 3 years... this is the outcome...

Would you expect any of the Super Rugby sides to agree to release the likes of Wessels, Thorn or Gibson to take on the assistants' jobs, which next year I'd expect to be all full time jobs.
And even if so, would any of those gentlemen really want to work for Cheika. It would be a direct line to failure for them.
Actually, Gibson might offer a choice. A straight swap with Cheika would avoid the cost of buying Cheika out, and if he doesn't like the idea then he has the option of resigning and walking.

It would be totally ineffective to replace the assistant coaches while retaining Cheika. Either Cheika takes the responsibility and is sacked or resigns, or all of them go. Keping Cheika with a hotch potch of new assistants would be about the worst outcome imaginable.
There will be very little opportunity for any new coach to stamp his authority and personality on the team with only four (?) more tests between now and the RWC and only two training camps in which to do it. But something surely can be done to improve the situation, by concentrating on implementing a new defensive structure that doesn't require constant movement in the backline, reducing the number of set plays to confuse the attacking systems, concentrating on individual skills with a large part of the training sessions being set aside for this, and re-establishing the set piece as a strength. Couple those issues with selecting players who can perform the roles of the positions they are in, including an emphasis on the defensive aspects, and someone with a bit of background in coaching could help to pull the Wallabies out of the current pile of shit they're in. That person certainly isn't Michael Cheika.
