ODI World Cup 2019

I agree with the comments re Carey from a batting perspective, but I have a bit of a question mark over his glovework as a test WK.
How’s he up to the stumps? I remember he dropped a bit of a sitter against India. Paine’s probably got a couple of years left in him so he’s got time to improve. I’ve heard Gilly say he spent 80% of his practice time on keeping and 20% on batting so maybe Carey could do something similar.

I think he's a bit below test standard at this Point UTG, however I guess it depends what trade-off you want to make. Wade is, I think, our best WK/Batsman, with Peter Neville our best keeper, but at this point Paine is probably the best compromise (plus, of course his captaincy) which in this day and age is what you are looking for. The old days of Wally Grout keeping and batting at 11 are long gone (before my time, but I think Bert Oldfield, who the old guys used to reckon was our best keeper ever, batted down the bottom of the order).

Wade is not test standard as a keeper IMHO, but could feature in the team as a batsman alone. His form in FC cricket would justify it.

I was chatting to Kiwi mate at a party last night, said we'd be barracking for them in the final. He said it made him feel quite uncomfortable, almost dirty!!:)

Newshub just did a live cross to London & it was pissing down but apparently it's due to clear shortly & then be cloudy but warm & dry. All the talk is of NZ batting if they win the toss but I'd have a bowl on the basis that if it's gunna seam it'll seam early. Put Bairstow & Roy under some pressure & if they're good enough then back ourselves to chase what they put up.

Archer bowling too short, Woakes looking much more dangerous now he’s pitching up. Take note Henry and Boult.

If Kanos and White Sachin can see off this opening spell things will get easier.

Shocking umpiring, second match in a row a player’s been given out when it so obviously wasn’t out. Yes, you can say that both NZ and England should have used their reviews better but it’s not really good enough in a WC semi or final to have these shockers potentially ruining the match. One review is just stupid.

The lack of match awareness from Erasmus was just astounding. Surely he knows that NZ are without their review and England have theirs and he shouldn’t be giving even 50/50s England’s way.
