okay so if you want to be really spiteful & stick it to stan/nine here's a way to save a small amount & not be an extra number on stan's books

espn+ $8.32 a month usd if you sign up for 6 months
express vpn $5.99 a month usd

$14.31 usd a month currently equals $18.48 aud a month.

for anyone who doesnt want to pay for a terrible "entertainment" streaming service

LOL your still doing it wrong,

I pay $150 a year, I currently have 2383 TV stations from all over, 22K movies and 2.5K tv shows. Covers all of the streaming services content and the TV channels has everything. All sports channels from the UK and US etc. During the week my TV lives on the DIY network etc, and on the weekend I get to watch the PRO 14 and Premiership Rugby when I get up.

My only issues is when the hosting country went into lockdown there servers needed work.

What service is this? Sounds a little like an India based service a bloke I work with uses - Jadoo - although he watches mainly Indian and Pakistani stuff and does not know what NRL and Rugby it has.

It's a IPTV subscription out of Europe, uses 2 apps that work on my smart TV or using a Amazon firestick (Android box)

I watched the Tri nations on Sky sports from the UK just to listen to there pre game and half time analysis instead of Fox.

Conuter-argument? Perhaps $10/mo is way too cheap. If UFC can convince people to cough up $55 to watch a 2 minute street brawl, surely $10/mo is sending the wrong price signal.

I'll be interested to see what the streaming quality is like - if HD is good for $24 a month I'll stick with it, otherwise if it keeps dropping I'll back to $20.

No need for $24 package at all

Jesus Christ. So far across a few platforms I've seen. It's too obscure. It's not. There's not enough FTA games. We FINALLY have FTA games. It's too expensive having to bundle it with Stan proper. It's not. Now we have it's not expensive enough? The $55 is a PPV event. There's a big difference. $10/month id a fine starting point.

The "good news" about sport being in HD is for those who are interested in getting Stan purely for the Rugby, not for the other content they offer.

Personally if I'm going to sign up to Stan I want to sign up at a level that gives me their other content in a way that's watchable on my 4K TV, which means I'm weighing up between the $14 and $19 base packages. The $10 base package is completely out of the question for me personally.

I also asked if Rugby was going to be broadcast in 1080p or 4K. The best I got was "stay tuned" from Ben Kimber - no response on that question from Stan.

Surely 1080p is fine and suitable for most of us. Kayo don't offer anything in 4K as a comparison. As long as there is no pixelated buffering viewing, I'm happy. Simple man
:D

Agreed. 1080p will be enough definitely but it'd be GREAT if 4K is an option. :) It was a more relevant question when I was under the incorrect impression that the base plan you went with would dictate the maximum resolution the sport would be available at. Now it's just an "it'd be cool if it was" thing. 1080p's enough.

I think 4K might be a case by case scenario, apparently it requires significantly more staff and costs to broadcast then HD.
That’s why last year some sports which were previously broadcast in 4K, were cut back to HD due to COVID manning restrictions

Intriguing. Why more people for 4K? To shovel all those pixels into the pipe?

Watching the tennis on Channel 9, they just had a massive promo highlighting all the sports they are showing.

First sport on promo "Rugby Union has a new home and you won't miss a minute live on Stan Sport and Nine."

They also promoted Stan Sport when discussing French Open and Wimbledon tennis.

Later in promo Wallabies v France and All Blacks are highlighted as well as the Shute Shield and Rugby Championship.

BTW, I’m already a Stan subscriber through iTunes and the link for the free trial wouldn’t work. They’ve now put up a message saying if you pay through iTunes you need to wait till closer to the launch to activate the free trial, presumably they need to sort it with Apple.

SMH reporting Telstra to stop streaming sports, it starts with AFL & NRL but will be all their streams in the near future.

Everything going to Kayo

Love how News Corp marketed this as innovative and a new exciting development. When in reality it’s just a competitor folding and Telstra paying a discount for those customers to go to Kayo. Data free viewing was the biggest benefit out of Telstra offering this package, now that’s gone.
