Hi, St Gregs displayed excellent running form, and brilliant kicking and follow up technique in their backs, exposing the Stannies backline deficiencies of strategical positioning and defensive techniques.
Stannies forwards had it over the St Gregs forwards, but when wingers are potioned well back it leaves defensive gaps and when they allow the kicked ball to bounce several times before securing it, losing the ball in the ensuing ruck is almost inevitable when the St Gregs backs are up in the opostions face chasing the kick and defending brilliantly.
Hats off to the St Gregs backs. They must be playing their league players in the backline, as I have been told in previous years if all their league player played union they would win easily. They looked really fit.
Don't know if their league players will show with the away games.

Just heard from my man at the Oakhill V Farrer game. It was almost a boilover with Oakhill getting across the line 36-34. With 9 to go, Farrer led 34-22 and were all over Oakhill who were listless and full of mistakes. Well done to the Tamworth boys who travelled down today. Massive wake-up call for Oaks I suspect.

I think it was St John's (Dubbo) that Oakhill played today not Farrer.

Bloody good effort from the last Bush team left in the Waratah Shield. Sounds like Oaks were a little tired and maybe a little complacent having to back up on a Tuesday following their ISA game on Saturday vs Kinross.

It was definitely Farrer, St Johns pulled out.

Oakhill defeated Stannies 48 - 24 in Bathurst this afternoon. I could not stay to watch but it was apparently a very good game. Oakhill also won the 14 and 15 a's which confirmed them as winners in each of these age groups.

St Andrews defeated St Pats in a thriller 17-15 with a try then a conversion from the sideline which hit the crossbar and went over after the siren. Better Players for Pats where no.7 Taweel and no.8 Van Diggelen for Andrews Talanoa who was playing 8 I think? and no.10 Alvarado. Great game of rugby

Hi Blindide I stayed & watched the official scoreboard posted 39 - 25 Oakhill won it was a good game best I have seen Stannies play they corrected all those positional backline weaknesses looked far fitter than Oakhull but needed to keep possession at the breakdown in the backs and Stannies let in 2 soft tries. They are coming good in line to really have a big chance on Wednesday against Auggies

Hard to believe Oakhill played Farrer or St Johns as Stannies knocked out Farrer in the Waratah shield this year & Mudgee High knocked out St Johns in the first round last year, maybe they have taken my tips ~ no they‘re not that silly

Sorry Blindside that was my typo didnt mean to write Blindide sounds as though u r blind eyed but the score board did not read 48-24 at Stannies ur informant was a bit wishful. Stannies is now the only bush school in the semi final in Waratah Shield & they know they are going to beat Auggies. Glad to see a Canberra side there as well but come on NSW

Nonetheless, a fantastic result for Gregs and hopefully this give their rugby program a shot in the arm. ISA need them as a real force, not just to make up the numbers. Congratulations to those at St Gregs whom I know have worked really hard on their rugby.

I was speaking to the 1st XV coach at the information night for my brother's enrollment next year and he was very optimistic about this season providing they were able to gain access to all the talent on offer. From the looks of early form (I watched the trial game against Joey's, pretty sure 2nd's, pre competition start) they only got everyone on board in the last month or so.

I would really like to see the school begin to take the game as seriously as it does it's League and Cricket programs. Given the facilities the school has or have in the works they really could become a force not only in the ISA but Schoolboy Rugby in general. All we need is to focus on developing the forward aspects of the game.

Tears, assuming Kinross beat Pius with a bonus point victory, then I think Greg's and Kinross would be equal 2nd on 22 points with Augies a point behind on 21. So, looks like the victor of the Augustine's v Kinross deferred game will take 2nd place. Very much agree with you though in relation to your comments re Greg's. I had them written off as cellar dwellers after the first few rounds but their performances in the 2nd half of the comp have been outstanding. Let's hope the school does start to put more effort into their rugby program as they certainly appear to have the cattle to work with when rugby league isn't the focus.

Good day at Stannies yesterday. The locals are great hosts and fought hard in all games. The 1st XV match was very even for the first 35 minutes but Oakhill, running into a stiff breeze, scored a try right on half time to give them the lead going into the break. With the breeze at their backs they put on a couple of trys early in the second term but Pedro is correct in his comments that the Stannies backs outplayed their opposition in the latter stages. Thought Mitch Green at fullback for Stannies was probably best on ground - booming kick and talented runner. Tuckwell at openside had his best game of the season for Oakhill - he was sensational on the ball all day. The refereeing was very ordinary. Based on earlier comments in this thread, this appears to be an area of opportunity for Stannies.

Great achievement for the Oaks boys to complete the season undefeated. 11 of the 15 have been together since the 13As and excluding last year when they were split between the Opens 1s and 2s, they have lost only 1 ISA game in 5 seasons - pretty good going.
