I can't find anything in that which supports your case.

Sure you did:

A player in touch may kick or knock the ball, but not hold it, provided it has not crossed the plane of the touchline. The plane of the touchline is the vertical space rising immediately above the touchline.

I'm not actually suggesting that this is the case for this scenario (as I'd need to watch the replay, so I'm not going to make a call on this specific case), but it's a rule that's generally enforced when the ball has been kicked.

and when will higgers stop trying to stand in tackles??

There was at least one occasion where the call "Keep your feet Higgers" was called as he took the ball into contact. All good, but there wasn't enough support following and he was turned over.

Getting there, but still too lazy off the ball.

Actually, I was correct.

Once the ball crosses the 'plane' of the touchline, it is out of bounds.

Not exactly..The ball is "in touch" when it touches anything or anyone, on or beyond the touchline. A player with both feet in play is not beyond the touchline, therefore if Jane had his foot in touch, then the ball was out, if not, then it was a try. Borderline stuff though.

He was a full meter outside the second time he touched it.almost in the stands.

If the ball was inside the plane of touch when he did that. Play on.

Yet another game lacking the finesse of execution made up for with just pure guts.

A fitting send off for Sharpie - shows what we could be.

Higgers clearly baited McCaw because the Reds know it works. Let's see what the citing roulette wheel spits out.

And I actually made the joke on twitter that there would be deluded kiwis on GAGR arguing for Jane's "try". Hilarious

Finesse missing, granted.

But (huge) heart on display for two games on the trot.

Could it be the turning point? Dare we dream? Or is it just Sharpe as (C) that makes the difference?

After watching the replay finally. I think it's not a try. Only because Jane didn't just tap the ball, he pretty much flicked it up to himself which constitutes carrying/"holding" it IMO (even if it's just for a second). Other than that, Jane was complying with all the touch laws, he seems like a smart player.

TPN's ball security was disappointing but his effectiveness was there in both his runs and tackles; he's had to play big minutes lately and that's pretty tough in the hooker position especially when he plays such a physical game. I'm sure he's been playing through enormous pain and injury. He's sort of been an unsung hero the last couple of matches imo.

I didn't think there much doubt that Jane was in touch, his foot was on ground outside line when he tapped it.
I actually think Wallaby players may have listened to Tony Shaw etc who said they had to 'bash' the All Blacks, and that is why perhaps Higgers tried the old Knee in the head followed by the headbutt, I know that not what Shaw was meaning, but the less bright players tend to get it a bit wrong. I actually mentioned it to Mrs 54 when Hooper got done for late tackle that a young fella just trying a bit hard to not miss a hit. I having a laugh early in game when Sharpie and Whitelock going to a lineout, when both seemed to get in each others way and just a little push and shove, that what he meant, just don't get dominated, I think .
Although I obviously a little disapointe ABs didn't win ,I actually almost felt good for Sharpie his last game at home wasn't a loss, as I a fan of the way the man has always played.

Interesting with the whole Burgess/Giteau saga, I wonder if it was put to Mark Chisholm to revive his international career? He's in pretty good form with Bayonne (just scored a try then) and he would've added a lot to the squad if Sharpe declined the offer the play on.

Well I'm proud of the boys this morning. No one gave this side a chance against NZ. A draw is a huge upset.

Ok, no shot at field goal at the end and things seemed to regress a little in the 2nd half. But they still got behind and were able to come back, equalize and damm near win the thing.

Not going to bother with the whole player analysis thing, but just say it's good there is competition for positions now. Players and popstars who previously thought all they had to do was be healthy to get a Wallabies jersey now have to work hard and develop themselves. Cause we have other options.

On the field goal: hope I'm wrong but it looked to me like no one wanted to be the player who missed.
Higgers: everything was perfect, in that he had got under mccaws skin, and then he just topped it off with some gratuitous stupidity.
Palu: surprisingly good given such a long layoff.
Tapuai: glimpses of class, whatever McCabe is I think tapuai is really a 13 so I wouldn't move either just because McCabe might be better at 13, because tapuai offers more there - acceleration for one!
Phipps: not so good.
Joubert: good, mostly: pleased to see him caution Sir Richie twice at the breakdown, though no doubt the second one was in his capacity as captain, hence no card. ;-)
My major concern was that when the game was there to be won, and he we had got ahead on the back of grit and determination we went to the air with the same stupid midfield kicks: kick for touch, kick for position, kick for open space but don't understand the obsession with mid field hoists - they're 50/50 to regain possession at best and they often if not always put you in you own half from the next phase with the consequent risk of a penalty for a minor infringement turned into 3 points. They seemed to think this would be a good way to close out the game but it predictably let them back in.
Mindless stuff, IMO.

First up, we'll take that draw considering how we went in the first 2 games against NZ in Sydney and then the Auckland nightmare.

Secondly it was good to see Palu back for around 50 minutes since it looks like Higgers might be getting a rest. The rest of the forwards played with great determination and good to see them pull one out for Sharpie in his last game in Aus.

I can't for the life of me see why Kepu would flop into the last attacking ruck when it was clear as day the AB's weren't committing to the ruck.

The one thing that annoys me is our lack of retention of high balls/restarts. The mistakes last night could be masked by the 'playing in humidity and makes the ball slippery' trick but it was the same for both sides and the AB's work under the high ball was good. I've said this before, and will say it again, we have AFL in our backyard and a few lessons from their coaches couldn't hurt.

Finally, what a ballsy decision from Richie to go with the scrum 80m away from the tryline well after the siren and come within a metre of pulling off the win.

I am sick of reading tea leaves looking for the turning point, this game isn't it. This was all about Sharpie, he was massive, the game played out the way he likes it, tough and uncompromising.

What a captain, it wasn't just the call but his "don't fuck with me" body language that inspired his players to get down the field the kick.

The same silly mistakes through the game with ball handling and retention of the ball. Maturity of the game was a big factor with silly things done, like hooper's late hit.
Phipps is should not be scrum half, game picks a speed when sheean is on. That speed would be great to have when the forwards haven't played there guts out for 65min.
PTN is one rugby player I'm am over with. Does 2 or 3 great things and threat of the time he is on the lying on ground or fucking basic throws. And I have never been a fan of this bloke...
1st half was great bought some prick back into the team. Heaving at the break and fighting for the ball. Really took it to the AB's and they had no real answer at the break down at time and we forced then to penalise.
2nd half started kicking more again with was frustrating after a good ball running 1st half.
Should have win but didn't and the AB's there just a awesome team. That last 4min was unreal from them.

Was at the game -- firstly, gotta say I just love watching Rugby at Suncorp Stadium! Amazing atmosphere and you are right on top of the field...fantastic. Secondly, that was one of the worst games I've ever had the displeasure in witnessing. An error-ridden mess by both teams. What do I take out of this game? When Rugby Union is bad...it is terrible. The ITM Cup semifinals were much better entertainment, and I just watched those at the pub before heading to the stadium. I had a feeling the All Blacks weren't going to be on song for this game, and was proven correct when they botched a few clear try scoring opps in the first half. That said, the last 10 minutes of the match was awesome. Everyone was standing, with Wallaby supporters hoping for a penalty, and then Kiwi supporters hoping for a penalty and willing Carter's field goal to go over. In the end, I'm glad it didn't because really...neither team deserved to win. An absolute shocker. I'm gonna send a stern email to the ARU/NZRU after this debacle!
