Brumbies look the real deal. Defence very impressive, that's what you want to see in round 1. You can build the attack in the weeks to come. Haven't missed a beat from last year, no signs of second year syndrome.
.
I agree that they are still showing the good structure and low error count that made them hard to beat last year - and ensured that they did not drop games they should have won. Their issue last year was having the ability to go up a gear and beat the very good teams - on tonight's showing the jury must still be out on whether anything has changed.

Good win to the Brumbies. Well played and their line speed in defence was fantastic.

Reds really looked to miss the little general behind the breakdown that is Genia. I thought Ed Quirk had a bloody good game also.

Frustrating game to watch. Brumbies to good and deserved winners. Some serious WTF moments from players on both teams and also the ref.

Some good signs for the Reds though. Gill was excellent and Quirk had a big game also. Cooper had a great game. You can't score him down for the intercept because almost any other 10 in the game would've tried the same thing. It also touched a Brumbies hand and travelled forward to Mogg but that matters not. Taps needs to run straighter. When Lance came on at 12 the difference was massive. Not that Taps played poorly, just that sometimes he just needs to run straight!
Digby was a powerhouse also but his hard hands let him down again. In a game where the neckline didn't get much ball, I liked what Toua did.

Anyway, that was good prep for the Tahs next week. At Suncorp with hopefully a fit Horwill, Samo & A.Fainga'a we will be a much better team! :)

Pretty happy with Ed Quirk tonight. Add Samo into the back row mix and we should see a very strong and improving loose forward unit.

Need to sort out set pieces though.

I thought both sides were one or two trial games off from putting on a more complete and less unstructured game. That said, I think it was more intense than the Rebels/ Force game, which may have lead to the error rate.

The Queensland attack seems a little off...they were on the cusp of doing things, but it didn't occur. Perhaps the Brumbies' defence needs some good praise??

I think most people would say the Brumbies defence was really good and were the cause of the reds not even looking like scoring.

Having said that though, the missed tackle count from the Brumbies seems to be higher - they just didn't miss the ones that counted.

Well done brums. Suprised Reds didnt put the pressure on after the consecutive penalties early on, surely pressure is king in these type of matches early on in the season especially with QC (Quade Cooper) waiting and willing. Reds defence looks good, Brums with 26 missed tackles, I am suprised at the praise they are collecting for their defence.

Lees obviously did not get the directive from Pulver, running rugby please. Too early with the whistle for mine. Too many at the breakdown from both sides supported and off their feet, but still the ball was there to use for the attacking side, FFS let them play.

Brumbies will not get the same lattitude from the refs in future rounds, the rebels will challenge them next week if they do not improve. I believe they will though, as White did not look impressed with their efforts tonight and will surely seek to rectify.

Slipper, wrong decisions made at crucial times and looked overrawed and unsettled. Give QC (Quade Cooper) the cap, he needs the responsibility. Overall, not a pretty game to watch and I hope things improve or we will see only one oz side in the palyoffs this year again.

Considering the Reds' serial offending I think they would be more concerned about their breakdown work.

In comparison the Brumbies' counter rucking was excellent.

I think they would be more unhappy about some of the sloppy ball work at the back of the ruck at times.

According to the Crimes "The Brumbies won the toss 40 minutes before the start of the game but decided to wait another 20 minutes before telling the Reds whether they would kick off and which way they would run."
At the return match in Qld they'll all be wearing balaklavas.

Agree slim, counter rucking was proficient from brums. The sloppy ball work perhaps a result of good pressure from the reds defence who were up and in straight and low for most of the game. Both teams can take some good positives from the game. But in my view it was very sloppy around the breakdown from both sides, with the brums getting the points decision from the ref. Brums deserved the win though, no argument from me there. But it seems the breakdown lottery will continue into 2013 if Lees interpretations are a reflection of how super refs will adjudicate this year and the brums may not be on the favourable side of the whistle on all occasions.

I was at the match and the Brumbies won the collisions pretty much all night. Pocock was my MOTM. His influence is massive when the opposition has the ball. He disrupted the Reds all night and is the king of #7s in Oz and probably the world. I was disappointed when Hopper left but Pocock has that stubborn immovable hardnosed presence that is unique.

Well done brumbies, great defence wins the game. What happened to kimlin tonight? Has he been sick or something? He didn't look as fit as the rest and quite a few brain farts.

The Brumbies won that on the back of sensational in field kicking. They continually put it 5 metres out from the Reds 22 which allowed them to build pressure and control the game. If their goal kicking was better it would have been a drubbing.

The Reds looked a bit like a team who turned up and expected the magic to happen and when it didnt they'just went through the motions until the 70min mark when they woke up and had a crack. I am a bit worried it could be another season where the stars align too late for the Reds to go all the way unless Horwill and Genia can get back soon. I also think they missed Higgers, no other forward in Australian rugby is as good as Higgers at creating and taking attacking opportunity in loose field play.

Samo is pretty handy in that role but he was missing too.

You feel that on their day, with a first choice team on the pitch the reds could beat anyone. Without an incredible slice of luck that is only likely to happen a couple of times all season. While they may be the best Aussie franchise on their day, it will be interesting to see whether they really have the quality in their forward stocks to accumulate enough points over a long season to be there at the business end. Same goes for the Brumbies to some extent.

Very scrappy match, certainly seeing the early season rust. Certainly need to get that goal kicking sorted, don't know who is the best of the lot but we can't have 4 difference kickers again.
