Monday's Expert

Had the pleasure of catching this match as well after watching the 16 A's and B's that morning. Those two or three hits by the Churchie #4 were absolutely earth shaking. He single handedly stopped the NC attacking momentum in its tracks. They also played as far from him as they could on some of the ensuing phases :) I believe his name is Sam but his last name is escaping me, his father is a former Wallaby.

I believe his name is Angus Scott-Young, son of former Wallaby Sam Scott-Young.

Been to the trials i have a prediction on form not on their name, although i know some players will get picked on what they have done in the past. Sorry i dont know that many names.

1. Benroy Sala (Good Ball runner and is a very tough individual to put down. Made me eat my words on QLD trials forum)
2. TSS Hooker something Lyons (Good Feet at contact very good in the tight. )
3. new NC Tighthead (Tough, Physical and gets around the pitch)
4. TG second Row (Tall but athletic and can tackle.)
5. Luke Papworth (although a 7 i think for strength sakes they should put his at Lock just for GPS he will make QLD and Australia this year. but i still think hes a natural 6 than a 7)
6. Bronson T (Good foot work at the line probably needs to play a little bit more direct to be a damaging 6)
7. TSS number 6 for school red head gear (always puts body on the line, and hes everywhere)
8. Jamison Shultz/Jayden Rodwell (Both good runners and take it forward all day. Both tackle well)
9. James Tuttle (easily best pass in the comp)
10. Mitch Third (Nice Boot, strong for a 10 and has a dangerous step)
11. Matt Marsden (Played 15 in the trial but will be dangerous with space on the edge)
12. Ginger head centre from BGS i think (Hard Running, Hard Hitting just a beast)
13.Landon Hayes (Was making breaks left right and Centre)
14. TSS Wing (Big Wing who can run)
15. Josh Bowen (Played 10 at trials i think big boot solid in D)

Guys who i thought was a shoe in for GPS 1 or 2 before the trials.

Evander Gutenbiel (Was quiet didnt see that much from him.)
Alex Mafi (quiet as well stood in the backline for long periods, dont know if thats where they told him or seagulling. Probably will still get GPS 1 spot on name)
Sam Clifton (Scrumagging ok, not very strong through contact same as in tackle but will go all day)
Laykem Aiono (Still think he isnt a prop but, 8 will fit him. Made some big breaks but tight work was lacking heavily)
Nili Filea (Needs to use his size and just run over some people. Built like a frait train
Robert Green (Strong but not Dynamic)

Alot of good players not trialling. is there a reason why? or are they already in? The likes of Mack Mason, Isaiah Perese, Nigel Tanuvasa, Paulo L, Conrad Quick, Gavin Luka and maybe some other. Injury cloud or?

Dear FFR
This is a thread about Schoolboy rugby. There is an entirely seperate thread about scholarships (with more readers than this thread)-so you may want to take your harp and tie to that thread about scholarships .
If you want to see some interesting ,educated writing on schoolboy "RUGBY"- have a look at my old sparring partner-Monday Expert above.

Yes the 14 A team got flogged by the GT team that were undefeated premiers last year and what a brilliant team it is :-replete with names on their jerseys and a note on the front that says "undefeated premiers 2012"Superb players they are but your post did not mention (in fairness it should have):
1)the BBC 14 B team beat GT 5 tries to 1.Meaning the BBC teams had a spread of A&B players in both teams.The boy in the 14B team from BBC who scored 3 tries is the youngest of 3 brothers.Brother 1 played in the first Aussie schoolboys team to win in NZ.Brother 2 is at Brumbies academy. JD s(who is in the GT 14A team) father told me it was the identical GT 13A team from last year.;
2)the BBC 15 A and 16 A teams also beat GT -without new players. How do I know?-because my neigbour is captain of the 16A team. His name is Lazarus(son of the Brick).
Unless you call his father an import as he is helping out as defence coach?

In short the GT 14A team was a pleasure to watch-but get your facts straight.
My apologies Lazos mate, I did not realise this was such a sore point. I have absolutely no objection to students gaining a thing I can not say. I myself have benefitted from the unmentionable thing via a son and daughter who received part unmentionables neither for rugby. The issue I can see is it appears to be the players who are blamed for a bad year. The new boys at BBC have come from rep rugby and the majority play in an undefeated Div 1 side, others play in an undefeated Div 2 side. The only difference I can see is the colour of the jersey and coaching staff. You can read between the lines. The players last year had a lot of issues outside their control to deal with and I hope they are given the correct support and guidance this year.

Now to get the facts correct Lazo's mate.
1). Yes we did have combined A/B teams and GT had separate A and B teams in U14. The result of the BBC A/B & GT B game was 4 tries to 3. Apparently Waterman ran riot. Not sure about his brothers but his mum is excellent on the eye. From what I hear not only is it the same GT team but same coaching staff. My understanding of GPS sport is that their is only a premiership for the Open 1st XV so GT were undefeated how ever their is no premiership.

2) I do not have any info on the 15's so I will not comment. From what I understand from the guys on the BBQ the 16's played three 25 min thirds and at the end of the three thirds GT scored 38 points and BBC scored 17. Which third did Lazo play. Last year this team was equal last with GT in U15 however the BBC boys and GT boys combined at Kenmore to reach the Final of the U15 Div 1, apparently only loosing a very close final as a result of being knocked around with school rugby. Correct about no new players. Bring back Derby. Lazo senior is a great man but he is a cockaroach!!!

I agree with Mondays Expert (ME) completely. Just hope it doesn't affect the school fees of the ordinary guys to much.

Best wishes for the season for all school boys. (The AIC guys are already complaining about Rep Teams)

Lazo played in the 3rd quarter which was the "green" team meaning the 16A team which was won by BBC 17 to 5.And no imports in sight in that game I am afraid. No doubt we will see them (for all schools) when the 1st xv squads are trimmed.

GPS teams have been selected and I have heard of some boys being notified. However, can anyone point to where the teams are published.

1) think you might be confused, no red-headed centres at BGS. One fair haired centre who I don't believe was invited to trial anyway.. There is red-headed winger in Grade 11 however, but I doubt it's him.

2) I was looking through the Queensland u/16 Origin team for wednesday night looking for names I recognised. I noticed Izaia Perese was playing 4, I'm assuming he didn't trial to avoid the risk of injury before his 'big game'.

On a side note, I saw Calvin Pritchard from Nudgee named on the bench, will he play rugby for nudgee, and if so where?

Harry Parcell has been tipped to play as the gps 1 hooker? any truth to this?

i heard that too but i think he isnt a strong runner to be good enough to be in that gps 1 team maybe the gps 2 for sure hooker

the king can you tell me otherwise but is it true that dean galanos has been called up to play for the first and be acting captain for the state high XV ??

Any News on #10 for BSHS Matthew Smit? I've heard his stuffed his shoulder up and it will be ending his 2013 season? If this is the case BSHS team may weaken slightly..

Any more news on the GPS teams? Mitch Third should get the gig for flyhalf for GPS 1, however i think he will face some tough competition for QLD 1 flyhalf from Guy Hamilton (played Junior Austalian 7s) who is a part of the CSS squad.

Talking to a man that was at trial last Saturday and was shocked to hear Benroy Sala did not make A TEAM. I watched the trials and Benroy looked a little unfit, but good ball runner has a lot of power and only prop that put up his hand to do some work in all 4 teams.

And didn’t make one team. That is sad!

Not surprising there was a lot of good props there. Plenty of big ball Carries by props in the second round of trials and while sala is a big boy he was not as quick or as fit as the other props making the big breaks. The games at the state champs is much quicker than first XV so can't really take the players who struggle to keep up at first XV level.
