I'd also like to see Robbo as the bench LHP until Sio returns. He may not be as agile around the park as some, but I believe his scrummaging is still more than adequate and he invariably earns turnovers with his work at the breakdown. Would be a valuable asset in the last 20 minutes if he got on. Better than Pek imo.

Does anyone else think that To'omua essentially lost his "automatic pick" status on the weekend? Poor passing, poor catching. What's the point of having a playmaker at 12 in that case? I really hope someone like Godwin challenges his position and he therefore puts pressure on Larkham to make him an inside centre at the Brumbies.

I'd agree that there's an argument to try the Foley/Beale combo..but if he's on the bench he is going to get game time and you'd rather start with To'omua and finish with Beale.
But he hasn't been an overwhelming star, I'd agree with that too..

Yes and No. Yes because of what you said. No because there is no viable alternative.
But it needs to be remembered a mediocre To'omua makes his tackles, gets over the gain lines and generally makes minimal errors. It's the players that can't manage to just do their job at least that we need to look at replacing.

If you unhappy with how To'omua has played in the last two matches alone I don't know how an argument could be made for Beale to start over him.
Squad for the next two tests is announced at 1pm apparently.
Presumably TPN will be back in (whether or not he is right to go for Saturday week) and McCabe will be out.
Unsure whether there will be other changes.
If there is any you'd assume it will be tinkering around the fringes.

well for a start you selectively cut out the second half of the sentence where I said just that, and secondly Beale was a failure at 10 for the Wallabies but has been playing at 12 for the Waratahs. I would argue there is a chance he gets picked there next week, but I don't think he will.

Beale's issues haven't been confined to him functioning as a 10 though. In fact if they had been his performance would have just been somewhat average.
Like everybody has pretty much accepted the AB's showed no matter where we hide him he will be a liability in defense, and he has begun again to move laterally and not engage defenders, which is a criticism many have had from years past.

Yes. I'm assuming TPN will just come in for Charles and there won't be the need to promote an even less experienced hooker.

One 'not so subtle' difference between the Wallabies and the All Blacks: After drawing the Sydney match they could have lost, the ABs went back to NZ and "trained harder". After being flogged last Saturday night, the Wallabies will "mentally relax", with time-out to recover, according to captain Hooper. Hooper also said that the coaches would look at the match and see where the players can improve. IMO, this shows that Hooper is not up to being a captain at this level. Our players should be increasing their intensity at training leading up to the SA match, and should be forced to watch the replay of BC2 (at least three times) and, with a couple of exceptions (Slipper and Hooper) explain to the coaching staff what they saw in their own performance, and what they plan to do about it prior to travelling to Perth!
I see may comments re our boys lacking confidence, however, I think many of them were "over-awed" by the situation, being confronted by the "wounded" ABs at Eden Park.
It will be a different scenario on Saturday week, and again at Suncorp Stadium on 18th October.
The two results last week make for an 'interesting' encounter at 'cbus super stadium', Robina on 13th September!

If the captain is deciding what the training program is for the next two weeks then I would suggest that it is the coach that isn't up to it.

No Mr Doug, that's not a 'not so subtle difference' between the two teams. That's the difference in preparing for a test match in 7 days and having a test match 14 days away.

I don't seem him being a chance of starting at 12 at all. His defensive game has way too many issues to even be considered in that role. More importantly, I think we need to stop comparing what form he had in Super Rugby because it just didn't translate at the international stage. The same argument was made for Mark Chisholm a few years ago, he'd have a decent super campaign and never produce the goods in yellow.

Beale's Super Rugby form hasn't translated to Test matches but he's playing out of position and so is To'omua. This is one of the dodgy things about Aus rugby, no coherence between Super Rugby and Test.
I'm expecting Skelton to get a start against the Boks purely because NZ mauled us to pieces until Simmons got carded and that's when the game was over really. The Boks and Argies will maul Aus but you pretty much can't maul a team with Skelton on the field. I remember telling a non-rugby watching friend what Skelton was capable of doing in the mauls at the Super Rugby semi final and then he went and did it almost immediately. The Brumbies sent the ball as far away from him as possible but he just turned around entered the maul and reached over and grabbed the ball carrier like he was picking grapes. Considering the Bled is gone and TRC is now a pipe-dream every Test from here is pretty much a friendly anyway so why not give him a go?

TRC is a pipe dream? The All Blacks have a 5 point lead on us with 4 games and 20 points up for grabs for each team. If they lose a game and we manage to win all ours it will come down to bonus points.
