It's rubbish in my view. It really doesn't mean anything. In fact I'd go as far as say that it has been pulled out as an excuse for when things aren't going well. Do people deep down think that using this phrase will somehow stand up to criticism of league commentators, or what fans are really interested in.

For the sake of OZ rugby, get the administrative and organisational stuff in order and then select coaches and players that buy into the system. Won't happen overnight but it is possible. Then there will be no need for the use of all these catch phrases.

Agreed. I've always preferred your fellow country-man Spiro's term of "all-court rugby" and also despise this notion that the game needs to cater to League's tastes.

Don't get me wrong, I love League almost as much as Union, but its a fundamentally different beast and that fact should be both celebrated and respected on both sides.

Strange news about Cheika... I imagine it's a compromise deal. Cheika wanted 5 years and to coach the Tahs next year, but the ARU probably said if you want the Tahs you're only getting three before a review so we can put someone else in before the 2019 RWC if this aint working.

Potentially. I think it would be extremely tough to expect him to do particularly well by the RWC. The 2 years following that will really tell us how the team will perform unless there is a miraculous turnaround. If things are going well then he gets the re-signed. If a new coach is needed and can't get the team performing in 2 years then it is unlikely to happen anyway.

PS. I hate RWC cycles. How about we win the fucking Bledisloe back first.

Do we really need to state the obvious? Are you suggesting anyone really thought (or that it was even implied) he'd sat down and had a personal chat with Cheika?
To me it just came across as someone who's overly sure of himself.

If true, it's so they can toss him and give the next guy time to prepare.

The ARU can't afford to be locked into 4 or 5 year deals - they've not got the $$$ to buy people out.

Yes, well it doesn't do much to restore my faith in the ARU...

To be frank I thought it was bloody stupid they dumped Robbie with most of the season left to play. What happened? Link got thrown into the middle of Deans' creation and the team got smashed by the boks and ABs in all their encounters. What followed was ad-hoc attempted to build structures on the run and now it's all ended in tears. Are we really now going to do the same thing again?

Of concern is taking Foley and Larkham. We need exceptional people coaching Super Rugby teams. With the loss of Link that is arguably the 4 best coaches in the country lost to Super Rugby in the space of 12 months. That could be bad for the Wallabies in the medium term.

IF this triumvirate is to be formally announced, I suspect all will be with their respective Super franchises next year, and that this would be a necessary part of the appointment process for each person, given the timing.
It could work that way, and allow the franchises time to plan succession without a desperate timeframe.
As a group, they would seem to cover bases pretty well.
I'm inclined to believe it when we see it though!

Larkham's supposed to be in Japan next week for a coaching course so if he does have a role, it probably won't be until next year
