Clearly, the better team won. Looked threatening every time they had the ball, which was most of the game. Wallabies ran into a brick wall most of the time.

A brave effort by the Wallabies, but some bewildering issues. Why did Beale replace Giteau instead of To'omua? Odd. Why was Fardy replaced so early? Odd. Why did we go into a RWC final with ineffective locks? Well, all water under the bridge now.

Owens was shocking as many had expected as soon as he was appointed. No good saying the Wallabies should have taken him out of the game when he just simply ignored knock ons, forward passes and obstruction. Referees must be more accountable for their performances and excuses like the team on the wrong side should do something about it are just pie in the sky.

I think Beale replaced giteau because it was so early in the game. To'omua used more as an impact player off the bench. I thought K B was our best actually. Fardy got replaced at 60 didn't he? I think that would have been part of the plan, fresh legs mccalman.

Since when haven't our locks been ineffective! It's been our weak link for the last couple of years, but overall I think they all had a pretty good tournament. Bear in mind that mumm was meant to replace Simmons, not Douglas.

Agree re Owens, but I'm not a ref basher so will leave that alone!

Commiserations Brumby. It's tough being on losing side in such a huge match. I remember in 95 all I wanted to do after that Bok drop goal was find every TV that had it on and throw a brick through them.

From my side of the couch, I thought Owens was way to lenient on the Aussies at the breakdown in the first half, awarded penalties against the ABs when Pocock came in from the side twice, Hooper leaning on players and still playing the ball. And those were moments in hot attacking positions when the ABs had all the momentum.

The result didn't go our way, but fuck Pocock is a warrior. His defence, in particular, on Savea was awesome. He consistently took the ball up and gave it his all. He is really a world class player along with McCaw and Carter.

I'm not referring to the future, I'm referring to now. We didn't have them last year, we have them now.

I'm not discounting the potential of other nations but we are on the up too. We have been underperforming for the last 8 years.

The success of this wallabies team will see player numbers increase next year and if they kick even more butt next year then the following year or 2 as well. I could be wrong but I just feel this year has been a positive turning point for the code.

I'm sorry but that's complete crap. You should have a had a red card and another yellow. No to mention all the lying round in the ruck from RM and Reid to mention a few. Countless knock ons and offside that where ignored. He was awful.

Just as a small example, a lot of the loig players here are unhappy with the local club (which I concede is an isolated micro issue) and have been thinking about switching codes. I know first hand of at least 4 players who have now made that decision purely on the back of this World Cup, more specifically that the wallabies performance got them interested in it. It's only small but there's 4 players that will be playing rugby next year that may not have otherwise.

Every single time Australia loses there's always complaining about the ref. When we win and get the rub of the green we say 'stop whinging about the ref.'

To be fair to Owens, he asked Barnes - who was in a better position whether it was a forward pass and Barnes said no. To say stuff like knock ons were ignored implies he was doing so intentionally, which is rubbish. Referees miss things in every game. Or they have different interpretations to fans who are watching the game at a different angle (and with one eye). Sometimes the fans are wrong as TV angles can be misleading.

As for the obstruction, he ruled on materiality. They got no advantage at all from a slight bump into the player. I've seen Owens make the same ruling numerous times. They scored after, but it wasn't at all due to the obstruction. People are just whinging about what would have been a very pedantic ruling being let go.

All Blacks won fair and square and dominated every facet of the game.

I love Wallabies and I'm pretty shattered with the loss. But as Southsider alluded to, the sportsmanship by both teams at the end was tremendous.

Going hammer and tong at your opponent for 80 minutes, the weight of your respective country on your shoulders, and to then be gracious in defeat and in victory clearly shows why rugby is such an awesome game.

I refuse to go behind the refereeing, but I wont sit back and listen a Kiwi saying this, Nige was so one eyed on the first half that captain Hook looks like having two eyes.

Still the better team won on the day and I hope the winners dont mention the reffing again as it wasnt fair on the first half.
