It's getting to the stage where the excitement of the next game exceeds the patience of thinking it over too much, plus with the rivalry group participating each week, it makes it more interesting. We can thank Sage for that too, keeping us up to date with the weekly tipping stats.

Who reads this anyways?? There are a lot of hits....but who are they?? Hopefully the Brothers boys....respect the ball.....have the discipline....use your skills.....know when to recycle the ball....keep it simple

Well that's fairly easy....there is only like 8 of us. Think there is a bond, a brothers, 2 uni's, a souths, potentially a norths, a wests and I think that's it. Who you having trouble with?

Brothers v Norths on the weekend.

Now let me say from the beginning, these comments are hearsay only, as I was not at the match, so I will be cautious.

The game appeared to be a wee bit spiteful with 2 red cards and two yellow cards. One of the red cards (Norths) was for ruffing/throwing a player with attempted punch/s. Apparently the Norths #8 had enough of the Brothers #9 and wanted to finish his game. However, unfortunately it only ended his.

The Brothers #15 red card was for a lifting tackle; some of the people I spoke to said it was probably a yellow and not a red. But that's the argument, one sided.

The Brothers yellow card was for more ruffing/consistent infringements (#4). Don't know about the other Norths yellow, but it is probably safe to assume a similar position as the others.

Sounds to me like Norths have had enough of losing and want to draw a line in the sand. Good for them. Just gotta watch how they achieve this.

The first half was littered with penalties for Norths, mostly infringements at the break-down. Now I don't want to get into a blame the ref. situation and I don't think what I'm going to say is. The referee was the same lass from the Brothers v Bond game earlier in the season. I do remember wondering at the Bond game why the attacking team was penalised a lot at the break-down? And Bond was, probably 4-5 times when attacking Brothers line, which saved Brothers bacon (HTC confirm?).

Now the Brothers team has a number who have played at higher levels (4 out of the 8 forwards) and usually they do not have a large count against them for this type of infringement (break-down). So I asked one of the forwards and it seemed to be a timing issue for the ref. She would make a call after the whatever was the infringement had occurred and not before, which would lead to a penalty. I sure hope her mentors can assist her here because I believe she will be a good referee and has a likable disposition.

Anyway she did have her hands full. The penalty count was between 10-15 in the first half, mostly to Norths, which does stifle the game. The Norths try again came from a Brothers error again. GOTTA RESPECT THE BALL GUYS! The winger tried to grubber his opposition number, 40 m out from his own line (wtf! were you thinking, chip or kick long..only grubber 20 m from the line!) bounced into the oppositions hand and TRY!...too easy.

Brother had a disallowed try early in the second half. They controlled the ball and spent just about the whole half in the Norths half, but unable to score.

The Brothers forwards did well in the scrums, took a head?? Won all their line out and stole 2-3 of Norths. Won 5 or so break-downs. So the forwards and particularly the back-row did function well, so that's a positive. Didn't get much feedback about the backs.

A fairly ugly win, but a win.

If Norths were to win it was going to be with field position and the forwards. Did not see a great deal in the backs that would have suggested otherwise. Norths are close but depth/injury has to be a problem back half of the year.

Similiar could be said of Brothers efforts. Probably created more opportunities but simple execution mistakes and tunnel vision when good support cost them and by all accounts is not just isolated to last week. A lot of movement lateral when nothing has moved forward and conversely when good forward momentum a slowness or reluctance to go lateral to where the space has been created.

Colts 1 won easily and remain undefeated.

Wests have exceeded all expectations (at least mine) with some consistent performances and a handful of gutsy wins. But Tigers at home for me in an upset.

Sunnybank have for past month topped 45 points every time they run around. Who cares if the opposition score a couple of consolation tries?
Souths starting to hit some must win games.
But not this week.

Brothers home to UQ
Match of the round. First chance for the rockstars to get a fair dinkum scalp. Brothers did just enough last week but will need to be at the top of their game. Plenty of big game players but wont be able to match flair.

Yes Sunnybank on fire. A look at player statistics and you will see 2 of the players from the Bank are the top 5 points scorers. Interesting that 1 of those players Coward is on Top with only 6 games under his belt and way ahead from 2nd place for Premier colts. Also I think he is in the top 2 for all grades and most for all
Premier grade. No wonder 45 scored every game.

Starting to listen at all the comments and results and believe the top 4 cream is really starting to rise to the top. Bond with its professional approach and a bigger sideline cast than Les Miserables will further forge forward towards the semi finals.

Easts host the young and freshened Doggies.
Wests will firmly believe they are a genuine spoiler and addition to this years top 4 and will be an extremely formidable opponent for the Tigers. Wests will be rocking.

Seriously what do I say here. I see talent on both sides but unfortunately I also see this possibly denigrating into a spiteful encounter. Once again I refer to my earlier comments of the cream starting to rise to the top.

Brothers host UQ
Another match where if things start to blow out could be a wee scratchy. UQ had an unpressured ruck contest last week and dominated time, space and speed of the game. Horan was awesome at 10 and shows what a team can do with front foot ball and a 10 with a superb kicking game. Irrespective of who is coming back, Brothers need to be careful here as Wests are looking at their spot on the ladder

This Uni-Brothers game is going to go a long way with distancing one team into solidifying 3rd spot at worst by my reckoning. The team that comes a cropper will be the one those teams at 5th/6th will be aiming for.
I think Uni will have a bit too much for Brothers this weekend, the attack has been sharp for Uni and just having a look at results, Brothers are not scoring a lot of points so I'm hoping the defence doesn't come under serious pressure as that has been a bit of an Achilles heel in the last few rounds.

3v4 and 5v6...interesting times.
