He also got the biggest welcome to first grade I've seen in quite a while from the entire Eagles front row. Credit to the guy for being able to continue.
All 340 kg of prime Aussie Beef.

What is the back story on Jack. Brisbane State High School and Sunnybank Club according to the commentators. He didn't look out of place against NSW Country. Where have you been hiding him until now?

If that isn't a sweet pathway deal then FM. It's premeditated. Reeks of cherry picking to me. If he's that good put him in QPR for a season and let's see him dominate. I saw him play in a loss vs Norths and had minimal impact. I think it would do a world of good to at least show you can dominate at club before you get NRC selection.

Of course it is.

They recruited a player they thought was suitably talented and would develop into an excellent player in the future.

Clearly the Queensland Reds were interested in him. It isn't a rep team. They are recruiting for the long term and want him as part of that setup.

Once someone has been signed to a Super Rugby contract they are going to be given opportunities at the levels below regardless of whether they are best player that could be selected for that spot at that time.

It is part and parcel of professional sport.

True but the Country reserve hooker did not look exactly fit. He came on early in the second half and I saw him miss 2 tackles that resulted in tries just because he couldn't move quick enough.

Alex casey was the reserve hooker.... Let's not start about him haha. He is a solid player but def not fit

But he is so slight in his build it looks like he could be broken in two by a half decent hit. Would he really survive in a professional rugby environment?

Would Damien McKenzie?

I've always been a believer in the theory that you can teach defense but you can't teach talent.

This guy has talent, let's encourage that and teach him to handle himself in contact, but let the skills flow!

Why is Ben Daley playing for QLD country when he's going to the force. Just taking a young QLD players spot

With slipper permanently at the wallabies and Holmes gone it's not much of an issue, the props are largely set for next year so there's more benefit giving them a bit of experience to play alongside. Talakai, Paraka, Tupou and faagaase are all starting at city/country, so he's not really stealing game time of any of the important candidates by being there.

Jack Stratchan? I think it is. He never played any schoolboy rep footy (maybe 7's) but always has been able to control/influence a game pretty well. Has come on in colts and prem grade

World of difference between the talent levels of McKenzie and Jack (Jake?). And DMac looks really a lot more solid as well. I do expect to see McKenzie playing at the top level in the not distant future, but not in my wildest dreams would I see Strachan in the Wallabies.

Just saying it would be wise not to build him up too soon. I recall the hype that went McIntyre's way before his very poor year last year, and can see the same happening with Mason this year. Strachan could be just another example of a very ordinary performer being over-hyped by the Reds' faithful without any real basis.

As for Jooste, he at least runs with the ball to the line before passing to his outside supports. I presume you saw how effective the Vikings' backline was on Sunday. At his present rate he will be the U20s No 10 next year unless the Brumbies refuse to release him.

As far as I remember he was released in 2011 to cover injuries at the reds, and that under 20s squad included hooper and Colby faianga. In 2012 when he captained the side he played the entire tournament.

At the end of the day I think it's up to the aru and I do seem to remember a bit of a shit fight around gill's release or not release one of those years
