It's fairly obvious to all that Cutrone is a much better player than Anstey and he would have been in that NSW team instead if not for his leg injury

In no way shape or form am i diminishing Cutrone but you cannot say that Anstey did not deserve his spot in the victorious NSW II team.

Yes Cutrone is a very good player and had an extremely unfortunate injury right at the start of the season, funny enough it was against Ansteys men (Barker). But to compare players that did not make teams because of injuries to ones that did and call those who were fortunate enough to make it out is ridiculous. Both are quality players, one has now finished and the other still has his time. No doubt Cutrone if fully fit will be pushing for higher rep honours as will many other CAS players this year.

IMHO This years breed of CAS players will be very competitive against the GPS. Me thinks the calibre of players coming through will be able to forge a team to knock GPS off.

Calling it now at least 10 CAS players to make NSW teams...

I agree on both counts.

So out of curiosity, who are your 10 players?

Thats about the standard quota over the previous 2 years so no major difference. There will always be surprises and controversy with selections.

Fair enough; there were 11 CAS players in the 2 NSW teams last season.

I'm asking him to name his 10 as matter of interest

Plus one in the Combined states team

However, I think there were only 2 CAS players in the State teams the previous year 2015.

Surprised you didn't add in your 3 from Waverly yet

I only predict 2 from Waverley: Finn Wright and Luca Moretti but you never know; there could be more
The speedy winger from Trinity is another one: Hollingworth-Dessent
Frost from Knox

Apart from that .......

Woodcock
Frost
Cutrone
Dawson

Wright
Moretti
Donaldson

Stead
Hollingworth-Dessent

Reimer
Coghill

All these boys if injury free and have big pre seasons should be knocking on the door for NSW spots.

Fair enough; that's a good start.

Jeez, it was hard work getting you to put names to your predictions.

All of this chat about selections is pretty early.

But have to agree about that list above of the potentials, but I would also add in Ilias and Cooper from Trinity as well as Cornish and Hardaker from Waverley.

We also can't forget Stenmark from Cranbrook who was a standout in the CAS u16's two years ago, along with Rahme(hooker)from Alos.

1. Wright (W)
2. Coghill (B)
3. Cutrone (K)
4. Frost (K)
5. Reimer (B)
6. Cornish (W)
7. Stead (T)
8. Moretti (W)
9. Cooper (T)
10. Woodcock (K) Captain
11. Hollingworth-Dessent (T)
12. Stenmark (C)
13. Hardaker (W)
14. Payne (T)
15. Ilias (T)

I really like the look of that team, the forward pack would be a menace to the opposition and I agree, the entire forward pack could be up for NSW selections or combined states in some form.

Finn Wright 6 ft 2 and 115 kg ... not a chance!

All Black Charles Piutau (mentioned in todays SMH) is 6ft 1, and 105 kg

That said Finn (as the highlights show) goes all-right and in schoolboy rugby he has enough tow and body mass, to cause most lightweight defenders trouble

IMHO Finn could go the next level in 2017 rep rugby, however he needs to continue to work on his discipline, scrummaging (GPS front rows get far better tutelage) and fitness

Not much mention on Waverley's Rogers-Smith, as everyone pretty besotted with Moretti, and everyone forgets you once you get injured

personally I rate both ... although as in previous years, hopefully none of these kids, cop an injury in the mungo pre-season

if it was left to me I'd ban pre season mungo (Coach Cornish won't do this) .. then again if you survive the league games, it has you pretty match ready (albeit with league habits needing to be de-loused)

True, Rogers-Smith is a big chance of making higher Rep honours if he remains fit.

Last season 11 Waverley players made the CAS teams with 3 going onto make State teams. They could have similar numbers this year if players remain injury free.

It also could be another good year for CAS players making State teams. 12 players made it last season.

Better tutelage?

Last year Waverley had Mario Ledesma doing their scrum training. What more do you need to improve your scrummaging?

They also destroyed the Knox scrum to the point it was collapsing backwards last year.

William88, did you see the Newington game at Stanmore (and others) in 2016?

Waverley rugby does a lot of things very well ... freewheeling running rugby springs to mind

but if you think Waverley are strong in scrum dept .... lets just say I disagree.

Ever since the Wicks stopped being a drawcard, and the Roo(s)ters started getting more hearts and minds, scrum skills have been evaporating

IMHO it is only the new engagement rules that have seen significant "depowering" of schoolboy scrums, that enables teams (like Waverley) to get away with it.

The dark arts are dying (and dead) and not just at Waverley

anyway when it comes to the 2017 GPS match ups ... think Joeys, Newington, View ... mark my words it's in the set piece ... scrums and lineouts that the wheels could really come off.

if it ends up being a 50+ point drubbing, don't say I didn't put the warning out there

and it all starts in the pre-season - with the coaches electing for uncontested scums, minimal live scrumming

2017 is a year they should harden up, and a few guest appearances isn't the solution

Ledesma helping to coach really? Wow good initiative from Waverley probably dispels some of the discussion of resource inequity between Williams and Cornish however. Did OJ assist as well?

Your point was they need better tutelage on their scrum and need someone who knows what they are doing to teach them.

You can't get better than the wallabies scrum coach, the fact they lost some may be because they had no gym last year, they still don't have one.

Have you also heard the crowd chanting, " we love scrums," at home games? It seems they put more emphasis on it than you know.
