I don't think it is. Didn't really look around for any signage to confirm it but nobody was smoking in there at half-time.

When is Stylzy gona stop the 50/50 passes and play field position first! It's a NO BRAINER. Get the basics right for at least the 1st 20 minutes. QC (Quade Cooper) to tactically get field position, then have a crack in their zone, not ours. Felt for George Smith, he threw everything at them and all he got in return were errors that didn't need to happen, AGAIN. We still taking risks in our own territory. I know we won but we played one of the weakest sides in the comp who have no national reps. We can beat teams but we gotta play smart not flash and eliminate our 50/50s in our red zones. That's only my opinion but shit it's not hard to work out.

these days if you are young you have to throw dangerous and risky passes or else you have nothing to put on youtube highlights packages. drawing a defender in before passing with two hands to the chest of your outside support just wont do it

Not hard to work out, but not modern pro rugby either. The Kiwi teams set the standard and most are happy with first or secon phase tries from anywhere on the park. Same for the Reds of 2010-2011. Remember Quades kick pass behind goal?

Possession is key, and largely the forwards job. Chancing comes to the play makers, I'd call that QC (Quade Cooper), DP and Hunt. The balance must be right - for me that is Genia style decission making from 9. Keep it in the pigs untill we have go forward, drive them. But you dont stop a chance rolling it back.

That doesnt mean you cant have QC (Quade Cooper) or Tuttle looking for the territory gains, especially in the first 20. But I dont mind spilt ball if it is a)on the back of good possession; or b) with a chance on early phase communicated with back up.

Its all about balance. And dont forget defence.

We not doing the basics well mate,(dru). Let's just play smarter. Get field position, be aggressive in defence, force errors, get some continuity going, winning rugby is not entertaining rugby, it's just playing and sticking to the game plan that suits the team, not the spectators. That style comes later as the moulds.

The Lions game felt very similar to what we saw in 09/10, the kids back then threw the ball around a lot and tried to think outside the box. Most of the time it didn't quite come off, but it made for entertaining matches. It wasn't until 10/11 did we finally see the benefits this style of rugby brought.

However you play has to involve good decision making.

You can try and play field position but unless you're challenging the defence and forcing some of the back three to stay up in the line, it's likely that any kick will be caught on the full and you'll be putting yourself under pressure and not actually gaining any field position.

Likewise, playing a game with lots of offloads isn't just something you decide to do or not, it's pretty much an integral part of modern rugby. It's about the players making the split second decisions whether they can make a decent pass or instead should hold onto the ball and recycle it. All the players need to be executing skills to a high level for this to work effectively.

Braveheart; it's frustrating to see so many errors but I spose you have a point. I just hope we can execute the skill ASAP! I was wanting to get points on the board and then maybe open it up! But you guys are right, I think!

I can only agree with the frustration. Problem is, for me anyway, it is much more frustrating seeing the rugby last year with massive possession stats and dick to show for it. WBs have been quite similar.

You set up a game plan that sets forwards onto forwards and backs onto backs. Conservative, low risk, good possession if you do it right. Kiwis set up forwards onto backs and particularly backs on to forwards. Then look to exploit the mismatches.

I'm personally happy with the conservative approach, but only if the game plan has something additional in order to use (and if done wrong - abuse) that possession. Thought we might have seen that with Cheika's "finishers". Here at the Reds i'm looking for chances taken by the key three playmakers.

Whatever the game plan, basic skills are required.

Well on the subject of halfbacks, Stade Francais won't release Genia without a hefty fee, so looks like his chance of coming back for 2018 are unlikely.
