Well, those two morons are not wrong, they are just being disingenuous; the ARU ARE in multiple discussions. It's just that the discussions they are having in Melbourne are around how much Cox is going to be awarded for his damages claim.

I believe that bit of dinner theater hits the courts next week. It would be lovely if Coxy is awarded millions, but then turns around and says he will forgo 50% of the costs if the ARU allows him to hire whoever the fuck he wants to play at the club. :D

My comfort level is, well, comfortable.

Irrespective of which team goes (and let me be clear, i hope it isn't any) Cox/imperium being awarded millions in damages is the worst outcome that can happen regardless.

This money will impact ARU budgets, and based on their past history it will impact grassroots rugby first before any white collar employee.

But on the other hand this is what the ARU gets for selling a franchise and not moving to a central governance model 10 years ago

We have to make up theories - we have nothing else to go on!

Yes fair enough, there just seem to be occasional comments from Reb supporters re Cox and his intentions which are not along party lines. For us who had never heard of him before these events its difficult to get a read on him.

As GMR says, everything's a thought exercise at this stage.

The party line is that Cox isn't selling and everything is to go on as normal for 2018. We have no reason to not believe that from both his public statements and what a lot of us are hearing out of the club.

However, if there were any credence to the idea of him wanting out, then the most preferable option is x followed by y followed by z etc.

Given the nonsense that has surrounded the past few months, theorising is all we have.

Good luck to Toby.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and believe he will still be eligible for the wallabies. Not solely because of him, but will make mike Ala'alatoa available and pete samu. It will also force the nzru hand on encouraging players like this being signed, or should I say lack of encouragement. I don't actually think it will cause many issues for aus teams and players moving over there as the financial incentive is very similar. Might also open the door to offering incentive for Folau to stay in union by playing for Auckland.

There is no negatives to this. Better training, players still on show at prime time viewing, easy to collaborate with wallabies and save a few dollars in the bank. watch this space...

Exactly the point I made on the Wallabies 2016 & Beyond thread, and I too hope it to be the case

Also, as per our friend above the West, alas he does make a good point.

The reality is that RugbyWA are increasingly confident in their legal position on this, and yet the ARU remain steadfast that they will cut a team.

The only other way that will happen is if Cox sells, otherwise the Rebels would be ruled out of the battle by now.

If I were to wager a guess, I'd genuinely say we're at 1/3 close to equal splits of Force cut, Rebels cut and 5 teams...

I'm very confident of the rebels next year. Cox has them bent over a barrel. If the arbitration rules for the force, then to rid the rebels the aru would have to pay a license fee, cox would also have them liable for brand damage and he could sue them on the basis of selling an asset they believed wasn't equitable. Add legal fees to this and termination of government signed incentive programs (what ever they are), which were signed in good faith with the government. You'd be looking at 10+ mil as a conservative figure. Cox getting fed up and cutting loses is the only option, but then his professional integrity is on the line after twice saying he wouldn't sell. Not a good look for future confidence for other investors in his portfolio.

I'm confident of the Rebels next year for an entirely different reason - my sources tell me that Cox is in high level discussions with the Victorian Government because he has got jack of the teams ineptitude and drain on his very limited finances and he is ready to pull the plug and give it all back to the VRU - not, mind you, to the ARU scumbags.

Isn't that a bad thing? I mean, when both Rebels & Force put up a fight the talks of mergers began as the Brumbies didn't have a private owner or legal writ going on so would be easy to cut. Would this not put the Rebels more into the firing line again?

Despite what agreement Cox makes with the VRU by handing over the license surely as the governing body the ARU would have to approve it? So any sale would have to be beneficial to the ARU as well, or else I am sure Cox could find some Saudi Prince looking for a new play thing.

Want to name those sources?

Without them, this sounds like just one of the million made up stories around this entire circle jerk.

I don't see how Cox would be able to give the VRU the licence it's not his to give even if he wanted to sell it it would have to go through the ARU and in that case they could just veto the sale, retain the license and shut it down.

I saw Coxy at the Weary Dunlop test lunch the other week. I remarked "it's been quite a year". "It's been fu$king awful" he replied "but we are still here".

Indeed, we still are and hopefully continue to be.

They can't retain it with out buying it.

1) Cox has said numorus bloody times its not for sale

2) There is a syndicate ready to buy if he did want to sell.

So the Rebels will exist in 2018, I hope the Force do but thats a case for the courts.

Sorry yes that's what I was getting at they would have first rights to buy it back but I would also say they would need to sign off on any sale so even if a syndicate was willing to step in if they are still needing to cut a team then I doubt they would allow it to go ahead. Either Cox retains the license and the ARU are stuffed or he sells it to the ARU and they fold it up.

I have always and continue to e in favour of retaining a 5 teams. The only reason we find ourselves on this situation is because of the contact the Force have with the ARU to retain a team in wa until 2020 if not for that the force would have been cut 48-72hrs after the announcement.

Now I can't remember where I read this, I thought it was one of Wayne Smiths articles, but Cox has always had a put option whereby he can sell the Rebels back to the VRU - not the ARU - if he wanted to. In this way, the licence would still operate and he doesn't need ARU approval to exercise the option.

In that case the ARU could easily withdraw the licence from the VRU just like they planned to do from the Force/Brumbies but unlike the Force there is no agreement guaranteeing a team in that state..

Are you sure, or are you making assumptions based on a single paragraph? Have you got access to the necessary documents?

I know you and the other Force supporters are passionate about your team, but you all spout absolute nonsense on the legalities and financials of what's happening in Super Rugby.

As it's been reported (and confirmed by the force CEO) the ARU attended force HQ the day after the announcement with the intention to cut the Force. The force then issued the writ based on the clause in the alliance agreement.

The Rebels have not been cut because the ARU have no legal right to as the license is held by a private entity. Had it been held or if it is to be held by an ARU affiliate eg the VRU then It would be a different story.

As a force supporter yes I am very passionate about my team but I am also extremely passionate about the game In general in this country. What I won't stand for is false claims about the game in WA nor about its players. Like I have said I support 5 teams but some of the discussion in this thread by some Rebels supports had be down right crazy picking the bones of the force whilst placing their heads in the sand and ignoring whats actually going on.

The ARU have fractured what's at the core of rugby for mine that of people coming together United by the game they love. How about we do the seme instead of picking at each other which is what they won't.
