Man we scored some sexy, sexy tries in that game. Plenty of errors and missed tackles, but this team can look bloody good when it finds its attacking mojo.

I thought that game was the best I've seen a Wallaby front row unit (all six of them) play since the RWC. Set the platform so well.

Plenty of positives there, probably the best winning effort we've seen for a while.

The thing I liked was that each try was as 'crafted' in some manner.

Even in the much improved Bled 2 effort, there was an element of some of the tries coming from lapses from the ABs - an intercept & a try from a fractured scrum. Which is fine - you take your chances where you get them. But the tries last night all game from good lead up work in one manner or another.

He carried well, but that's what Hooper and McMahon are on there to do. All we need from our 6 is to be tall and to be able to hit a ruck.

Without meaning to be negative towards your post - can't we have all of the above. Please.

Don't know enough about Dempsey to know if he can deliver that, but gee it'd be good.

Righto, I've got a family event going on in the background, and its too nice a day to waste on some of you.

BTW if you're going to disagree with any of this, do everyone the courtesy of not quoting the entire fucking post, hmm? A nutless monkey could figure out how to work within the quote markup on this forum, so you should too.

Thusly. here arriveth the Pfitzy truth bomb in abbreviated format:

1) Hanigan needs another season of Super Rugby, to work on his impact and accuracy. Get Brad Thorn to help him work on that as I've been quite impressed with his coaching at QLD Country - always see their guys take that "power step" into contact zone and it pays dividends.

2) Replace him with Dempsey for the game in RSA - we're not going to out-beast the Boks, so better we just out-fluffybunny them. A backrow of Dempsey, Hooper, and McMahon is about as fucking annoying a thing I could think of from a Wallaby opponent pov.

3) Speight continues to be the shittiest top-line winger we have for defensive positioning. Ponies fans can talk about his attack all they want, but he gets caught shooting inward too often for Test rugby.

4) Rodda is looking the goods. His combination in the second row was a big contributor to our late-game scrum dominance, along with the Pumas replacements being ordinary. More on that in a minute. The other thing about Rodda is that he gets stuck into the work a good donkey should: cleaning out, putting pricks on the deck, and not doing anything too ambitious for a second rower's limited brain power.

5) Uelese has been solid in both his appearances. Temperament looks good, and he's got that young, puissant man's complete lack of fear. Snaffled an important turnover when we were farting around early in the second half, and ran hard all day. How much must he love having TPN as a mentor in camp?

6) Creevy must have gotten sick of the sight of Coleman belting six shades of shit out of him. it seemed like, every time he got the ball, Coleman was there to hit him. Magic.

7) McMahon and Hooper are so deadly together, and just need a better 6 (Dempsey, as I said, so you know its the truth) to help balance that back row so the tight five can do what they need to do.

8) The backline was a bit quiet IMHO, with the odd flash of brilliance but not enough consistency. Hard to overshadow that back row performance.

9) FUCK Canberra. Bitch, bitch, moan moan. We're the most successful Aussie province and never get a Test match. You got one, you fucked it up. The end.

Fire when ready.

With any luck Naivalu will be available again soon and Speight can return to the bench . He's also got Marika breathing down his neck.

Another very quick point: having only one team in the Super XX and then only picking their Test side from that team leaves Los Pumas very shallow for talent. If your bench isn't getting regular game time, they're not going to challenge for starting spots.

Though I should say: the speed of ball made for impressive viewing as far as Genia and Foley go. Beale mostly just filled holes, and made some fucking ordinary kicks in open play.

They are starting to look good when they hold the ball. In the first half last night, my impression is tht they kicked the ball away on first or second phase a hell of a lot. Did much better in the second half when they held on to it more.

Coupla things:

+ I'm all for canning Hanigan, but Robertson seems to get unnecessary flack on this site. He's not a game changer, and I don't think he has the potential that Sio, Kepu and AAA have, but he never let's us down and is very dependable. Pair that with the fact that there are no real alternatives and I don't understand the criticism. When Slipper returns I suspect we'll see him slide out of the 23, but he'll be better in the long-term for the experience.

+ In the post match conference Cheika spoke a bit about managing the work load of the younger and more inexperienced players. He seemed to indicate that Hanigan, Uelese and Rodda will be rotated at certain stages this international season. He indicated that at 6 we could be looking at either Dempsey, Korcyzck or Tui filling that position. I know a lot of you have been called for Lukhan to be converted to that position, and each day I think that proposition is more and more interesting.

In the short-term I'd like to see Dempsey starting the rest of the RC there.

+ In the presser Cheika also mentioned that he didn't give the team a spray at half time. He said that the leadership group got the squad together and did it themselves. I really like seeing that. I've noticed Hooper getting the boys into huddles at important stages in the game, and I think that he / the wider leadership team are really growing strongly.

Eddie Jones talks about his plans for the England squad leading into the RWC and suggests that by 2019 he wants to almost step back from leading the squad entirely. Instead he wants them to guide training and take full responsibility for leadership etc. It'll be interesting to see how Cheika approaches a transition from a coach-led to a player-led culture as well.

I can't bang on about it anymore and I will not, but from what I have seen he offers a lot more, particularly against sides like the Boks. Rob Simmons has also had a shitty year but look at the game he rolled out yesterday.
I just watched him do fuck all in the NRC what's he suppose to do at Test level..and it would leave us too jumpers in the lineout.. I'm not saying I agree with it but I can see why his not there..

^^^^ I agree, Timani isn't the answer. Tui MAY be though, he needs a lot of work and it could be a project for the EOYT and hopefully the Reds will get on board with it too. In the interim I agree with the calls to bush Ned and give Dempsey a run on tour.

Wonder if he'd let them select the team

It is only 12 months ago that Robertson was switched to loosehead as well. He is patchy, but is only young, and is going ok. It'll be interesting to watch his progress over the next few years but I think he may well kick on over the next 2-3 years.

I'd love for you to be right about Slipper - but he never got back to the level he was playing at before he first got injured.
