The Easts Fullback - think he played for Qld Country Healers last year - has a massive boot on him.

Will be interesting to see how he progresses through the season.

Too early to call but maybe the 2018 Tigers are a better side than the 2017 side who fell off the pace at the end of 2017.

Will be interesting to see how Norths go over the next few rounds because they have a history of starting the season well before injury and depth plays its part. The Eagles have the bye in round 2 followed by South & Wests - so we will know more about them in a month's time.

Will also be interested to see how Brothers respond to their big loss to GPS - are Bros that bad? Are GPS that good? Probably the answer rests somewhere in between. Brothers have a tough start they play Uni, Easts(A), Souths(A) - they could be 0/4 to start the season.

Souths will be keen to kick-off their season with a win against the Tigers in round 2.

Wests have the bye in round 3 so would love to repeat their win over Sunnybank at home last year in round 2(2018).

Can Bond stay in the contest longer than they did in round 1 against the Bulldogs? A game that was played in very trying conditions.

Yeah Bulldog, Jeeps look like they will be the early season front runners and probably the benchmark. Didn’t watch all the games, but on Saturday I think they probably had the best game.

Brothers will struggle, but the 4 games hopefully will bring the best out of them.

I don’t think there are too many others in the cupboard for brothers and I don’t think the answers are in second grade, at this stage.

Jeeps may not of won the trophy, but they won the 1st, 4th grade (?) and a surprise victory in colts 1, so still a lot of good news for them this year.

"I don't think there are too many in the cupboard for brothers"

Time will tell. There is a pod of players with a combined total of over 400 premier grade games returning from injury. There is further massive prem grade experience hunkering back into form in 2nd & 3rd grade. Round 1 a season does not make. But, gee, it is going to be fun watching. And not a snippet of sandpaper.

Who are the injured premier players with 400 games of experience? That’s a huge number, I don’t think most teams would have that many prem games experinace in any 15 they can put out let along just in the rehab squad.

Other than maybe 2014 I don’t uni would of had too many sides in the past 10 years with that many caps any given week.

Nathan Gendle and Dallan Murphy would have 300+ between them if those guys are going to lace on the boots.

Did Felsman play last weekend if not there's your 400.

Murphy payed Premier grade in what was his 100th cap, and Felsman played Reserve grade

Patty James would have 50 plus Prem games by now. A lot of experience coming back. Good to have had them early.

Can't wait for Round 2.

Anybody want to take a guess which will be game of the week?

GPS v Bond
Wests v Sunnybank
Souths v Easts
Brothers v UQ

I would of said Brothers v UQ before season started but after a disappointing result to GPS the round previously and because UQ was just featured on GOTW in Round 1 then my pick will be Wests v Sunnybank or Easts v Souths.

GPS over Bond - GPS were good first up. I expect that to continue

Wests at Home - Should be a close game, especially if it wet.

Easts Just - Some guys returning for Easts (Gunn, Ready and Hayes) should help. There is always the Quade Cooper factor to consider though??

UQ again in a close game - Brothers at home are hard to beat and losing their first game by so much will hurt. UQ are getting some players back from injury as well.

I know there is a cadre who are irritated about Quade supposedly taking away from the QPR story. I dont get it. I'll certainly be streaming this game. For the record Quade can't overcome Gunn and Ready. There are a whole stack of QPR club players who make the difference here. I'm looking forward to learning about them.

FWIW I'm a Quade fan, but I expect to return to Brisbane in a couple of years and my local club would be Easts. I'll be "Gunn"ing for them but really keen to see Quade play.

For me it's win-win for QPR.

I think Gunn is out for a few more weeks due to shoulder he did against Wests in the trial.

It will be interesting to see how Quade fits in around the rest of the Magpies - it might take a few weeks but ultimately he should be making those around him better players.

It's great to see him running around in QPR unless he's up against your team!!!

I knew I was missing someone (Gunn). Ready did not have the impact I expected from a Super player that many had hoped to stick at WB level.

Souths handling was impressive I thought. Looked excellent in the first half but allowed Tigers back in the second. Tigers kept plugging away but ran out of time.

Brethren 8 from 9 over uni.

Might be the year uni doesn't win the doughty shield

Sunnybank well deserved their win in Premier grade yesterday, Bulldogs came storming back from 22-5 to 22-19 and had the ball in Sunnybank 22 in last 5 minutes. could of walked away with the draw or the win on a couple of occasions. so kudos to Sunnybank for holding on.

Anybody from the Dragons fanbase have a update on Jake Strachan? Looks like he has suffered a injury to arm/shoulder/collarbone of some sort. The Doctor walked him off the field with his arm tucked into his jersey and he looked like he was in pain.

Uq had 10 or so players away in Hong Kong for a tens tournament

Including Prem grade/nrc players - Campbell Wakley, Pat Morrey, jock Campbell, josh birch and Scott gale.

Add in con Foley who got and SOS from the Aussie 7’s and that’s s lot of top spots to fill.

I was actually a little suprised to see such a close score in first grade

I’m somewhat surprised that 10 players away would result in the entire programme having a meltdown
