Desmond Connor (43)
Stawell, VIC - If you can run fast, they'll give you a present. I can't vouch for the pie content in this town.

NEWNES NSW

Former mining town, now largely abandoned. Oil from shale was produced there.

This one slipped under my radar.

^^^^^
Newnes has been used twice previously, and a RED CARD issued on 22 May 2013 (poster was @boyo that time as well).

Good thing that we had this lettle gem up our sleve from the very early days, which was previously a Yellow Card for being out of sequence.

Noosa Heads - Great wave, nice little town last time I was there (20 years ago :( )

Bugga Ptah beat me to it.

Noosa Heads (from Gnostic on 12 January 2012) is now a legitimate entry linking Nana Glen and Swingers Hill.

Back to the Chain, Next Town is a L from Stawell.

Lyndhurst, NSW
Not much there these days (a pub, a servo, and a school).
You may be able to get a pie at the servo.

Tingha - God's own rock garden, the result of hydraulic mining practices in the recent past. New England Region of NSW

Tingha, just outside Inverell. Famous for Tin, though the name apparently is an Aboriginal word meaning "flat or level"

Red Card issued for Tingha. Duplicate entry. Pfitzy got there first.

Starting Letter reverts to T from Lyndhurst.

Best way to check if a town has already been used is to use the "SEARCH" box at the top left just below your user name above and check the box "Search this thread only". in the options in the search popup. If your "town" is not found in this search then it will be OK. If it has already been used, then it will be disqualified and we revert to the previous "town's" last letter as the guide to the next "town".

TOOWOON BAY - NSW

on the Central Coast just up the road from The Entrance.
God's Country. Beautiful beach, GREAT Pie Shop, a top cafe called Coast 89 that makes A beautiful breakky.
Has Ray Hadley living there at this particular moment until the Tax Department or the Auctioneer gets it. So this gives it the redneck value.
On the nice side it has Kims Camp. This is a place where top end exec's take their PA's for relaxation. Very private. Very nice. Lots of yummy mummys frequent the beach in summer. There is also a caravan park there that gets a shitload of tourists there in the summer holidays.
The only problem is The Entrance just down the road. It is the auburn of the central coast, but still better than auburn

Ingleside, Sydney NSW, (sorry about the 'e' ending!) had cousins living there so a familiar place between Terry Hills and Mona Vale.

No shops to speak of so no pies to be found there.

To catch up and use some towns previously Yellow Carded
Akuna Bay - NSW a great climb out on the bike and a great descent back in (all on the way to west head lookout).

Yarrahapinni - town on the North Coast of NSW near Stuarts Point.
Irish Town - TAS
Just down the road from Burnie, a top little place that absolutely shits all over Auburn. No pies to rave about
Irishtown in Vic (gold mining locatality near Castlemaine) and WA (near Northam, pop 242, turn right just before here to get to Eradu, WA) as well. All little joints.

North Curl Curl, NSW. They fight for the break here. Longboarders love it.

Lang Lang - Vic. They grow asparagus here. So maybe a bad place to live if you suffer from the side affects of eating asparagi. Much nicer than Auburn but not many pie options.

Glenelg - SA. One of Adelaide's seaside suburbs and also Australia's most pallindromic town.

Gravesend, NSW. Pfitzy reckons less than 1% of Gaggerlanders have been there. When he lived there, there were 50 kids in K-6 at the school. Now less than 30 kids.

An Audit of the journey so far has revealed some gaps and breaks in "the chain".

Here come the corrections.

Ipswich, joining Tarragindi and Harden, had been previously used.
This instance of Ipswich is to be replaced with:
Ingebirah, NSW. This is a rural locality is on the Barry Way about 30k south of Jindabyne. Byo pies and wine. Jindabyne Bush Pigs is the local Rugby team.

Sydney, joining Nangus and Young, had been previously used.
This instance of Sydney is to be replaced with:
Somersby - NSW. Home of the Australian Reptile Park. Sitting astride the Pacific Highway North of Sydney, most people fly past this place on the freeway heading to other places.
Could also have used the somewhat topical suburb of Lithgow - State Mine Gully as a substitute.

There was a rather serious break in the chain between Sarina and Yorkeys Knob.
Armidale following Sarina had been previously used, and then "e" became Y and Yorkeys Knob was the next entry.
To correctly join Sarina and Yorkeys Knob to keep the chain going:
Ashbury, NSW. In typical Sydney economical fashion, this Inner West suburb gets its name by taking bits of its neighbours: Ashfield, adn Canterbury. No food or drinking shops of any note, just houses.

Nowra, joining Newtown and Allawah, had been previously used.
This instance of Nowra is to be replaced with:
Narooma - NSW. This town on the Far South Coast has a very nice golf course, and is home to the Narooma Whales Rugby Club who play in the South Coast Union. They run mens, womens and junior teams.

Harrisburg, joining Harden/Murrumburrah and Garah is referenced by a Midnight Oil Song from their 1984 Album Red Sails in the Sunset.
Harrisburg is a reference to Three Mile Island Nuclear Plant in the USA, and is therefore disqualified.
This instance of Harrisburg is to be replaced with:
Humpybong, QLD. On Moreton Bay near Redcliffe, you can get a good feed from the BBQ at the Humpybong Yacht Club.

Young, joining Anna Bay and Gundagai, had been previously used several times.
This instance of Young is to be replaced with:
Yerriyong - NSW. Just over the Nowra Hill on the Braidwood Road outside Nowra. If the pace of life in Nowra is too hectic, then retire on acreage at Yerriyong.

Airlie Beach, joining Alpha to Harrow, had been previously used several times.
This instance of Airlie Beach is to be replaced with:
Allworth - NSW. What's it Allworth? Not much it would seem, as their Post Office closed in the early 70's. Off the scenic Bucketts Way, halfway to Stroud.

Airlie Beach, joining Yandina to Hawks Nest, had been previously used several times.
This instance of Airlie Beach is to be replaced with:
Avalon Beach - NSW. They shot one episode of Baywatch here. They liked it so much that they wanted to make it permanent but the locals rallied this, and eventually Baywatch moved to Hawaii instead. Deep in the heart of Rats territory, the local Rugby Club is Newport. Local rugby watering point is Newport Arms.

Nanango, joining Oberon and Ophir, had been previously used.
This instance of Nanango is to be replaced with:
North Casino - NSW. You guessed it this suburb is to the North of Casino. One time home of the Purple Wiggle, Jeff "Wake Up Jeff" Fatt.

Ettamogah, joining Elmore and Harvey had been previously used.
This instance of Ettamogah is to be replaced with:
Eveleigh - NSW. Old Railway workshops site being gradually converted. Great food markets on the North side of the tracks. They filmed large parts of one of the Matrix movies in one of the dissued sheds. On the South side of the tracks, there is heritage Railway works and the Australian Technology Park side by side.

Harden, joining Ourimbah to Nimmitabel had been previously used.
This instance of Harden is to be replaced with:
Huskisson - NSW. On Jervis Bay, this is a very handy place to be based for a scuba diving exploration of Jervis Bay.

Nambour and Rooty Hill, joining Aberdeen to Lightning Ridge, had both been previously used.
These instances of Nambour and Rooty Hill to be replaced with the following:
Neath - NSW Namesake of Neath in old South Wales. Best seen in the rear view mirror passing thorough this town whilst exploring the viticultural delights of the Hunter Valley.
HEXHAM - NSW
The gateway to the Golden North. Every surf trip, end of season tour up the Coast goes through here. Traffic jams are the de rigueur. Great place to drive though because it either means you are going some where nicer than you are at, or coming back from a shitty camping holiday near Grafton. Has Darbys Pie shop too. Maccas as well
Mylestom - NSW. Near the mouth of the Bellinger River, this seaside holiday town took its name from a well liked frequent vacationer Dr Tom Miles, who always signed his name "Myles Tom".
Mount Isa - QLD
Mount Isa - Oasis in the desert.
Mount Isa lays claim do being the worlds largest city by area
Austral- NSW. Rural West Sydney suburb on the "other" side of the M7. Named after the Austral Banking and Land Proprietary who donated the land for a School in 1891. This was called the Austral Public School, which eventually became the Suburb name.

There is currently no link between Hervey Bay and Nabiac.
The chain will be complete with:
Yarra Glenn - Vic. John Furphy of Furphy Water Carts was born here, as was his brother Joseph who was an early Australian novelist. Joseph Furphy's works have inspired high profile sportsmen like Ben Cousins to such an extent that they feel compelled to tattoo themselves with the title of his most famous work,"Such is Life".

These corrections make the chain unbroken from Wagga Wagga to Gravesend.

With these amendments, the count so far (508 total):
A = 69, N = 65, E = 61, Y = 43, H = 30, S = 29, K = 26, G & L = 23, D = 22, I = 21, O = 19, T = 19, R = 14, M & P = 8, C & F & W = 6, U = 5, B = 3, Q & X = 1
Yet to trouble the scorers: J, V, Z

Need to work on getting more towns and suburbs ending in M, P, C, F, W, U, B, Q, X, J, V, & Z.

Next town is a D from Gravesend.

Just being inclusive, and bringing out the Referee in me to ensure that the game has been played by the rules. :)

Dawes Point, NSW. People play up here in this precinct of creative arts. Previously run down, now trendoid city. No proper meat pies here. All gourmet and starting at $10 each. Named after First Fleet officer, Lt. William Dawes.

Townsville - Got stung by a blue bottle there once.

You have confused the living shit out of me... Do I go with THE ENTRANCE or EDITH RIVER???
I am a man of very simple things Hugh. Tell me where I should be and I will tell you a bullshit story about either. You can edit :) :) :)

EDITH RIVER - NT

On the Stuart Highway just out of Katherine. Don't slow down. Those that have driven this road understand implicitely

THE ENTRANCE - NSW

Nannas with tatt's, bogans that have migrated. It really is a hole. The best thing to come out of here is the lake. At Christmas time the fishermen stand shoulder to shoulder and throw nothing back until some of the local lads tip their buckets back in. There are 2 pubs in town. The top pub and the bottom pub. Both are easier to get a fight in than a feed. The pie shop should be blown up as I cracked a tooth on one there.
A lovely little coffee shop is there though called the surfshack? Right next door to a tattoo shop (go figure?) opposite The Dirty Bird (KFC) A mum and daughter run shop will send you away with a smile and avery full belly. In summer auburn moves here

It was E from Townsville (previous entry from Suckerforred).

Will have to find a town ending in T for you to do The Entrance. Note I am also looking for a T for Tathra as well.

Next Town is a R from Edith River.

Riverview, Sydney NSW, it needs no introduction! Does have a gourmet pie shop on the corner of River Rd there, sadly it wasn't there when I attended that local school there eons ago!

Wee Jasper - NSW. One of my favourite town names. Don't know where Big Jasper is but Wee Jasper is very wee. Only about 100 people live here in the Brindabella Ranges, on the banks of the Burrinjuk Dam, astride the Goodradigbee River. Good picnic spot. not much else. BYO Pies and wine.
