There was a guy called Nua Alone from the Penrith emu's in 09 playing in Canberra this year on a dev contract. Where is he now?

one of the issues with this Academy here in Canberra, dont give players enough of a chance to prove themselves...He was good, probably needed another year to learn his craft coming from a League Background, but went well..He got Cut from Brumbies and is back in Sydney.

How good was the vikings backline last year then! Completely islander. Do you know if Villiami Ionga is staying in Canberra this year?

He was elevated due to his performances from last season and this season with U20s, I think you will see that in games played, Royals vs Whites, even though Whites won both games, Patterson was more dominant, in fact most games, Patterson was dominant Halfback, hence why most coaches in the comp except Whites coach of course rated Patterson as the best Halfback in the comp. The oil on Patterson is that he has had Shoulder Surgery and is out till March next year, was offered Tier 1 but declined due to operation on Shoulder.

I disagree entirely but that's ok, each to their own. 2009 was his breakout year yes, but he was also returning from a shoulder reconstruction. 2010 was his big year and was by far the best halfback in the competition. Well deserved on his Brumbies contract.

Thats what the forum is for, for good discussion, I do rate Nic White...he is very smart, specially round the ruck, my issue with him is his speed of the pass, probably not as strong a passer as Patterson but a hell of a lot better than Phibbs. Phibbs on his last legs I hear. Prediction, Patterson to join in 2012 as 3rd Halfback behind Valentine and White.

Haven't the Brumbies also got the Australian 2009 Schoolboy half-back Strizaker as well?

Nic White was clearly the standout halfback this year... and Beau Mokotupu was last year...

Also, Anthony Dawes was obviously perceived to have had a better season this year than Patterson according to the Macdougall medal vote count (Dawes also came 2nd last year behind Mokotupu)...

So I don't know where Patterson fits into any future Brumby plans?

Last news was he has been offered a pro 7's contract, but not sure on club?

Can anyone provide an updated list of all members of the Brumbies academy. They have a press release on their site but as per usual no updated player list. Someone, as earlier mentioned needs to tell them that Afusipa is a Rebel and that he isn't wagging training.

Dawes polled well in McDougall but was not and is not regarded by the coaches, hence why he was cut. Patterson during season was invited to all Skills sessions with contracted players with Brumbies.

Maybe its an indicator of where his deepest yearnings really lie. A couple of years in the wilderness to be followed by the return of the prodigal and the anchoring of the Tah scrum for a generation.

Short on 13s?!

Quite the opposite: AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), Ed Stubbs, Andrew Smith, Tyrone Smith, Pat McCabe...

In general the Brumbies are stocked with centres... they were short on quality wingers but seemed to have made a couple of decent signings there... particularly with Speight...

LH's is certainly a problem area while they're blessed with plenty of good TH's...

I think no. 8 is also a position where they're lacking for the future... aside from Hoiles there really isn't any 8's in the squad, although surely players like Elsom and Salvi can play there...

Salvi has played there in the past but with no great distinction. According to the Brumbies site he's 105 kgs now which is up from 100kgs in 2008; so that will do no harm if he has to play 8. The trouble with Salvi is that his best position is at 7, but the young guns were signed up earlier in the year: Hooper then C.Finger, in that order, with Salvi in between.

I can't remember when Smith announced he was pulling the pin and where it fits in the sequence, but it suffices to say that it was an odd chain of recruitment for the 7 position.

As you say Slim: Elsom has played no.8 before. Even Knuckles used him there: in 2006 for 3 games.

Just about every side in Super rugby is out of balance somewhere: overloaded with players who are best in one spot but have to be used in others, or just held in reserve - and are light in other positions.

The Brumbies will be no better or worse than most other outfits. The trick is to have injury luck in positions where specialists are light on.

IIRR the problem the Brumbies had in 2010 was not scoring enough tries; so I'm wondering: what changes in 2011 are likely to spark more of them?

Not to the point, whatever it is, but I couldn't see a point of difference in the 2010 Brumbies that set it apart from other teams and influenced results. Maybe it is to a point - not enough game breakers which was not conducive to try scoring.
