The Emirates Western Force has named a 24-man touring squad for the side’s Week 13 Super Rugby match against the Chiefs in Pukekohe on Friday (10 May).

Flanker Angus Cottrell and centre Chris Tuatara-Morrison join the 22-man squad that played out an 11-all draw with the Queensland Reds at nib Stadium on Saturday night.

The Force will fly out for Auckland tonight, arriving on Tuesday morning.

If the Force replicate the incredible defensive work against the Reds, they are half a sniff towards grinding out a famous win against the reigning Super champs.

Still, the other half of that equation is scoring more points than the opposition and I think the Chiefs have a bit more fire-power in the arsenal.

Good discipline in the defending 22 by the Force will take on critical importance if the game becomes a grind.

Oh, finally he won a plane ticket!
The pro is that he's going to want to play like hell (if he's worth it) in case he gets a spot on the field.
I'm just too curious to see what he can do.

CTM is like the old tea set at your grandmothers house. You only take it out and use them for a special occasion. Chiefs in NZ qaulifies. Will that be one lump or two...bit of biffo coming up!

This game will also be a massive game for the club and for Matt Hodgson who will break the Club record of games play after he equalled Nathan Sharpe record last week of 92 games.

A true Legend of the club and a great role model for all, he has shown with hard work and determination you can achieve anything.

Big congratulations Hodgo onwards and upwards from here and can’t wait for you to bring up the ton.

The Force have a great habit of surprising everyone. We lose when we should win. We win when we should get flogged. Since we are now expected to get flogged, I think we will lose by 1-7 points.

Aaron Cruden and Tim Nanai-Williams are both in doubt.
This is a real boost to the Force's chances if they don't play - especially Cruden. (Anscombe is a relatively poor back-up at first-five, much better at FB)

Although Ben Afeaki and Kerr-Barlow will be considered for selection this week.
I think Afeaki is potentially better than Owen Franks.

The Chiefs backs in aggregate and their capacity for highly skilful and elusive attacking plays are at present markedly superior to those of the Reds.

It's very likely they'll find ways around the Force's excellent defences that the Reds could not in both their 2013 attempts vs the Force.

In any event, the contrast will be intriguing (and potentially painful) to study for Reds fans.

If Cruden and TNW are out, the Chiefs attack will be less threatening for sure.

Agree FL. The Chiefs' defence in recent games has looked awful. It's almost as though the Chiefs' new motto is along the lines of 'oh well, as long as we score lots more tries than the big bundle of tries our opposition will score'.

Chiefs team announced to play the Western Force

The Chiefs have announced their team to play the Western Force in Pukekohe at ECOLight Stadium this Friday night at 7.35pm.

Coach Dave Rennie has made a large number of changes to last week’s line up. Prop Ben Afeaki makes his long awaited return from injury and is joined in the front row by Hika Elliot and Pauliasi Manu.

Halfback Tawera Kerr-Barlow also gets his first start since breaking his jaw and will team up with Gareth Anscombe at first five-eight. Patrick Osborne will start on the wing while two players who have started every game this year, Gareth Anscombe and Asaeli Tikoirotuma move to the bench.
Due to a substantial growing number of injuries in the midfield including Kahui, Horrell, Nanai-Williams and Charlie Ngatai who has not recovered in time with a hamstring injury, Save Tokula will start in the No 13 jersey in his sixth game for the Chiefs.

“We are in the third mini leg of our season which is hugely important. We are well aware of the strength of this Force team. They have beaten the Reds and Crusaders and went close to the Hurricanes, which proves they can travel, so we need to be at our best,” said coach Rennie.

There will be plenty of entertainment for the fans at Pukekohe with giveaways, performances from the Chiefs cheerleaders and the Chiefs Maori Toa group. The players will also sign autographs after the game.
