Covid making a slight comeback here in NZ on two from nets, both maritime-related. First an engineer boarded a vessel that's now parked up off the Sunshine Coast & contracted a strain of the virus not previously seen here. He's subsequently infected a small number of people but Health are confident they have it contained & there's no suggestion of Auckland good Ng back to L2 or higher.
The other cluster is IMO a real cluster fuck: some fishing companies were given an exemption to bring in ~450 seamen & of the first ~230 to arrive roughly 10% have tested positive during their quarantine. Allegedly they all tested negative within days of their departure from (drum roll, please) Russia & Ukraine. FFS. Meanwhile most of the national strawberry crop is rotting (& most of the national stone fruit crop will soon be rotting) as the people who would otherwise be coming down from Vanuatu, Tonga, Samoa etc to pick them aren't allowed into NZ, supposedly for fear of taking Covid home with them.
