Should be able to get an MRI reported pretty much straight away. Presume base of thumb means they're checking his scaphoid?

Shame for Digby if he's out for the remainder.

I've said it before. The defensive structure without Digby becomes a minefield. He and Cooper are a job lot. Has Schmoooo been practicing his defense in the # 10 channel? Diggers and Genia are the 2 most valuable backs in the team.
I think that's where Digby will be most missed.

It was bound to happen. Fatcat aside, our RWC 30 is our first choice 30. We've had an alright injury run so far.

This is a massive blow IMO. I think Digby's under-appreciated. He's consistently made meters, made breaks and scored tries. He's also a revelation defending at #10. Not sure if Drew can fill that void.

Fainga'a gets another chance and Mitchell goes to the bench if Digby needs to take a break.
AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)(defends @ 13) and JOC (James O'Connor) run on as the wingers, everyone slides in one in defense and Quade stays well out of it!

Losing a fantastic attacking weapon will be well solved with the retention of the Ant.

JOC (James O'Connor) isn capable of the work either, you have to punt on Drew here.

So McCabe defends at 10?

Sh*t, we really didn't need this problem. I think Mitchell will have to come into the team, he's our only remaining world-class winger and after watching Ashley-Cooper under the high ball I'm not so certain I want him in our back 3.
9. Genia
10. Cooper
11. Mitchell
12. McCabe
13. Ashley-Cooper
14. O'Connor
15. Beale.

This will mean either Beale defends up at 10, or McCabe moves inside and defends that channel. Something he probably doesn't have much experience doing. Barnes could be our wildcard here, I'm not sure where he would fit in the XV but he's our only remaining competent defender at 10 if Beale can't do it. That or JOC (James O'Connor) and McCabe swap places in defence which ruins our midfield combination anyway.

Alternatively, Quade could just defend at 14 and play deeper, JOC (James O'Connor) straight to 10 in defence, provides good option in attack if we get quick turnover ball too.
FUCKK!!!!!!!!!!

Most likely scaphoid, which is not good. Really difficult to heal, my son was in plaster for 12 weeks with a # scaphoid. Specialists were not keen to operate on it, but in saying that, it may have been because he is only 16 and (unfortunately)not a
Professional athlete.

From Associated Press:

The Wallabies have suffered a major Rugby World Cup blow with
scans revealing gun winger DIGBY IOANE has a fractured thumb
requiring surgery.
The injury appears likely to rule IOANE out for the rest of the
tournament.
He suffered the fracture while playing a starring role in
Australia's opening 32-6 win over Italy yesterday.
With IOANE sidelined, DREW MITCHELL could be in line for a
recall to the vacant left wing, with JAMES O'CONNOR already looking
set for a return to Australia's starting line-up on the other wing.

Shit I was hoping not to have to read that.

I guess someone going down was to be expected and we do have some very very good backup (although short on game time) but I would be much much happier if Diggers was a-ok after scans.

Might still be playable, if you ask me Dan Carter has been walking around with a hand problem for the last 4 weeks or so just being wrapped in cotton wool.
