This game is at the worst timeslot. Do I wake up at 3:30am to watch it and then hope I get a couple of hours sleep afterwards or do I just watch it first thing in the morning?

What are people's plans?

Fuck thats a horrible time. Go sleep (if you can, this game has me so excited it'll be like Xmas eve) early at 9pm ish and get up at 3 for the game. Or else just go to bed a few hours later on the friday night so you'll wake up in Saturday afternoon, which'll just about give you enough energy to stay up for the game in the early hours.

Looked at the schedule sun morn, so up at seven watch fra vs arg (is it?) then a whole day of international rugby.

Works well IF someone like bloody mc ardle (spelling?) does not go and 'ruin' it by commenting on games that were played overnight. Sheesh, why give the game away for a replay that is coming up?? It is a bit like when you have not seen a game, so stay OUT of the match thread here and reading another thread someone gives the bloody score of the game you have yet to watch!

Anyways, I don't enjoy a game when I am struggling to even keep my eyes open so no more three am's for me.

When Australia plays, at whatever time, I tend to watch "live"

My eyes aren't sleepy, they are wide open like 2 fried eggs. My heart is also generally in my mouth.

He made several mistakes against France and was poor. No one is questioning that.

He was good around the field against Wales.

Horwill also had a shocker last week and came off struggling with a knee injury. Who knows how healthy he is this week.

Carter was pretty awful the week before against Wales and was dropped to give Horwill his first starting cap in a while.

If Simmons, Horwill and Carter were producing consistently good performances I don't think we'd see Skelton around the 23 right now. They're not though. If we had forwards in other positions available right now, we might not be seeing Skelton selected either.
Carter wasn't dropped he failed his concussion test. and Horwill was injured last week, Jones is at 6. That leaves big Willie for cover. He hasn't been great but he gets another shot tomorrow.

Yeh the 3:30am kick off certainly does blow. I'm leaning towards getting a few hours sleep before and after the game, but then again I have been known to drink booze until sunrise. I wouldn't bet against it.

Is kick off actually at 3:30 or is that when coverage starts?

If it's the later, you could probably wake up at 4 and make it in time for the anthems. Otherwise, if it's the later, wake up at 4 anyway, but you'll be able to fast forward through the minute long penalty kicks that will surely happen.

Personally, I record everything, roll out of bed, move to the couch, watch the three big tests and surface around lunch time.

coverage starts at 3:15am (2:15am QLD time) and bookies taking bets til 3:30am. Suggests to me a kick off slightly after 3:30am

A lot of people are talking about the locks and so they should: it's our weakest position, although there are serious technical issues outside of the position discussion which should be addressed more than they are.

The double-whammy of the injury to Fardy (at least an option for the second row) and the move offshore of Douglas, has had an effect that was not unexpected, given the general deterioration of Horwill since he was in his pomp.

As yours truly has said a few times: Simmons is probably the most valuable player in the Aussie team: not the best, but the most valuable, because he is the only lineout caller in the country who can start in test matches regularly and can play for 80 minutes to do so.

From time to time he plays well otherwise too. His continued good health is vital.

People started getting on the Skelton bandwagon after he played all 80 minutes for the Waratahs against the Lions last year, but I recall saying that he would have to prove himself for 60 minutes on a regular basis for the Waratahs in 2014 before he was looked at for the Wallabies.

Because of the happy acquisition of Jackpot, that didn't happen, but it didn't seem to matter when he made his stunning debut in the third test against France on that sunny afternoon.

My opinion wavered then but is back full-throttle. I will just change the year to 2015 and add the proviso that his scrummaging work has to improve. I never appreciated before the tour how poor it was.

Choosing him on the bench since he is in the touring squad is another matter since Horwill is a shell of his old self and playing as though he has an injury anyway.

If the second row has been a problem area there has been at least one tight-five position that has surprised us in a good way.

Who would have thought that with our top three hookers injured: Moore, TPN and Charles, that our fourth- and fifth-raters, Fainga'a and Hanson, would play so well?

Fainga'a should get the nickname "Lazarus" - his rebirth has been stunning.

Well done him.

we could have a backrow of Higgers, Palu, Hooper and that is pretty damn aggressive. Perfect for Chieka-ball.

Why is everyone so keen to have Palu at 8 if/when he's fit again? McCalman has been great at 8 when he's been given the chance this year. Always gets through a mountain of work and puts in a very solid and dependable performance every week.
Palu looks great against lesser opposition, but almost always goes missing in the big matches when we really need him. McCalman can lack the overall single play impact, but his overall impact in a game is consistently high.
I'd say he should be our first pick 8 on current form, even with a fit Palu or Higginbotham.

Plus Palu is almost always injured :p

I had the dis/pleasure (really can't decide because it was a great match for the Wobs - but a stinging loss) of finding some time to re-watch Bledisloe 3 last night.

A couple of the guys had quite good games on the night but Saia was just a demon at the rucks - hitting some of the breakdowns like he had 20kgs of rocks in his pockets.

Didn't Barnes come good against Wales right after having his own daughter?

Maybe the Wallabies should get some kind of fertilization program going, just call it "Operation Grassroots".

McCalman has played better in 2014 than he ever has before. I definitely think he's a chance of keeping the position.

I also think Palu is a good chance of taking it back in 2015.

Our breakdown generally goes better when Palu is on the field and that's an area we've been struggling with on the EOYT.

Has the added benefit of guaranteeing the playing stocks for later generations

3:30am is just an awkward time, particularly if you have a baby waking up at 6:30am - 7am.

I'll record on 10 and watch in the morning, without looking at anything first so the result isn't ruined.

Only reason I watched the Barbarians game live was because I can't record Foxtel Go/Play, and because I was silly enough to volunteer to write the game review. Nothing like crawling into bed at 4am only to have a baby waking up under 3 hours later. Lucky my wife gave me the morning off!

recording and watching the replay is modus operandi for these tour games for me..I'm up by 6am anyway so it's just a matter of making sure I don't check my texts first thing and making sure the Foxtel box is on Nickelodeon or something when I turn the TV off at night so that the score isn't glaring at me when I turn it back on!

Matches on between 1.30-3.30 are in the dead man's hours.
Do it if you wish to replicate the affects of jet lag later that day.
You also need to be careful of commentators spoiling, by mentioning results from earlier games while calling a later match.
It's tough being lazy.
