Love the lynchmob mentality boys, I'm with Ash & lewisr, wait for the whole story to emerge and remember, innocent till proven guilty - it's the basic foundation of freedom & democracy.

We are forgetting that he was flying AirAsia, which means their stuardesses/ stuards are all based in Asia, and probably weren't the most helpful people to talk to at 5am in the morning. (read:possible lack of english) Also, AirAsia doesn't reserve seats.. I.e. it's a fucking free-for-all.

Then there's every possibility that his GF has a phobia of flying and JOC (James O'Connor) wanted to sit next to her to comfort her during the stresfull ordeal (been there, done that)
then there's the possibility that the stuardesses were c**ts and wanted to get their powertrip on.
Then there's the possibility that; upon realising that seating arrangements couldn't be changed, he decided to book another, later flight, thus requiring him to exit customs (requiring a police escort.....)

Sadly, this whole process could have been a marketing dream;

JOC (James O'Connor): " AirAsia doesn't let you sit next to your Missus... that's why I fly QANTAS. "

P.S. ARU have released a statement saying they are fine with the event... so judgement passed

This should never happen, if you don't discipline your number one choice player then why should number 2 in that position keep playing? This is a great way to lose your players overseas or to league. There is no incentive to build your hunger and determination if you know you will never get a shot because the golden boy will get picked regardless

I disagree with this pretty strongly.

Why should an inferior player think they are more deserving of a position in a side because they are better behaved than the player above them?

I am not saying that JOC (James O'Connor) shouldn't be punished if this incident happened because he was drunk but if another player has an attitude that they should chuck their toys out of the cot and go overseas because they weren't elevated above JOC (James O'Connor) because of discipline then I think that is just as bad.

Purely on a form basis, there isn't a winger in the country who should be picked above JOC (James O'Connor) at this point (Speight is excluded because he is still ineligible).

JOC (James O'Connor) made one really bad defensive read in the first Bledisloe where he didn't trust AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)'s defence and came in off his wing but anyone making the claim that Ben Smith scoring lots of tries was because JOC (James O'Connor) defended poorly doesn't have much of an understanding of the game.

Where'd you read that?

They only just announced 2 hours ago they were opening up an investigation.........

AAP said:
The Wallabies fly out of Australia on Saturday for a two-week tour of Argentina and South Africa.
News Limited reported that the ARU launched an investigation into the incident on Sunday but were satisfied with O’Connor’s version of events relayed from Bali.
He had reportedly told the ARU there was a dispute over seating arrangements at the gate which led to O’Connor and his girlfriend being taken back through customs to re-book seats on a later flight.
He allegedly denied being drunk and there was no mention of the AFP.

Slim 293; Investigation seems to have been concluded, not two hours ago (when the story ''broke'')

If his intial version of events does not match very, very closely with the AFPs then BP is likely to be very, very annoyed. Never good to lie to your boss so blatantly.

This could jucier if the ARU have re-opened their investigation.

Someone must have been telling porkies: the Passenger, the Airline staff, Customs staff, AFP, Airport Authorities, other passengers, Journalists.

Shouldn't be too hard to establish corroborating facts.

Bosses never look kindly on having to issue a contradictory statement after finding out that someone has been economical with the actual details of the incident.

I agree that we should wait and hear full story before condemning JOC (James O'Connor),but not sure about some of your "excuses".I've traveled a lot on Asian airlines and never found any stewards/stewardesses who could not speak good English and I am sure their ground crew in Australia would be the same. It's a basic requirement to be employed in this position. Also,if AirAsia don't reserve seats, how can you have an argument over seat allocation?
Maybe on his salary he can afford to not travel with a budget carrier.

Is it OK to get into a fight with airline staff over your seating however sober you are?

exactly, whether he was pissed or not, getting thrown off a plane because you've made such a stink about where you're sitting is dickheaded behaviour on the highest level. Who the heck does that? Just suck it up and stfu, it's only a 3.5 hour flight.

No more "investigations". Link, and the ARU marketing department, should send him Beyond the Wall.

Hmm... I'm not sure whether to leave my lynching jacket on or it's time to put it back in the wardrobe.

Dust it off, I reckon you're going to need it.

Because if he pulls these stunts on a Qantas affiliated airline he will probably find himself flying separate to the rest of the Qantas Wallabies on budget carriers all over the world for 12 months.

Just went through the process of booking a flight from Perth to Bali on Air Asia. For the princely sum of $13 I was able to reserve an emergency exit seat. Took me less than 5 minutes.
