Either we are all idiots, or they are all idiots!

Maybe some players just give points to the goal kicker!

It's an interesting question.

I've always been a Palu fan, and one argument I always use with Cliffy sceptics is how well he always does in player polls. Generally, you'd have to argue that the men on the field know a lot more than we do about what goes on out there. Firstly, they are there, right at the action. They see and feel the violence of the contact and the trajectory of the ball. Secondly, they are professionals and we are mostly only fans. For one of us to say we know more than a single player is notably confident; to say that we know more than all the players is the first sign of madness. Finally, they see a lot more video analysis than we do, so it can't just be a matter of them being too close to know what really goes on.

That works with Cliffy. The sheer violence of his hits is only occasionally visible from the stands or on TV. Palu hits exceptionally hard in attack and defence with no run up and the players see it.

But how does that work with Giteau? What are the players seeing that we're not? It's not like he gets the occasional high mark: these Eales Medal scores means he's getting consistently high marks from his peers across multiple games when we've been calling him the worst player on the field.

We should, collectively, ask the players. Maybe one of the G&GR guys should put precisely this question to a few Wallabies.

King George?

To be eligible for inclusion in the Wallaby Hall of Fame, a player must have:

Played at least one Test for Australia
Been retired from Rugby for at least 10 years
Made a major contribution to the game of Rugby
Demonstrated outstanding ability, sportsmanship, commitment, character and personal contribution to their team and the game in their era.

So retired at least in 2000.

So you've got Timmy Horan.

I'd be looking at the likes of Michael Lynagh, Andrew Slack (or was he recently announced?) and Simon Poidevin,

The Wallaby Hall of Fame currently includes the following:
David Campese
Ken Catchpole
Des Connor
Sir Edward 'Weary' Dunlop
Mark Ella
Nick Farr-Jones
John Hipwell OAM
Tom Lawton Snr
Mark Loane
Tom Richards
Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC OBE
John Thornett
Cyril Towers
Col Windon

Not to be confused with IRB Hall of Fame, the International Rugby Hall of Fame (IRHOF) was created in 1997 in New Zealand and is run as a charitable trust with an address at Chiswick in London. Most of the trustees are also inductees. IRHOF accepts new inductees every two years. Most inductees are former players, but others who have contributed to the game are eligible.
The International Rugby Hall of Fame includes the following Wallabies;
David Campese
Ken Catchpole
John Eales
Mark Ella
Nick Farr-Jones
Tim Horan
Michael Lynagh

The IRB Hall of Fame includes:
John Eales
(David Campese and Mark Ella were an unsuccessful nominees in 2008, Ken Catchpole was an unsuccessful nominee in 2007)

The World Rugby Museum Wall of Fame (or Twickenham Wall of Fame), not to be confused with other Hall of Fames, was opened at the World Rugby Museum on 3rd June 2005 as a celebration of the best players from all over the world that have played at Twickenham Stadium. Wallabies in this Hall of Fame include:
David Campese
Ken Catchpole
Mark Ella
Nick Farr-Jones
Michael Lynagh
Cyril Towers
Col Windon

On the basis of recognition elsewhere, Michael Lynagh has to be odds on inductee. Tim Horan retired in 2000, not sure if this means has has "Been retired from Rugby for at least 10 years". I'd add Simon Poidevin to the list of potentials.

Campo an iRB hall of fame reject?

101 tests? 64 tries? Fucken idiots.

I just checked it out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRB_Hall_of_Fame

What a strange list. 1 All Black. It's true that the 2009 lot were commemorating RSA v Lions, but still. How could Campo EVER be rejected from a list like that EVER?

The IRB Hall of Fame seems very eurocentric, and PC!

I have also noted that the Wallaby Hall Of Fame on the ARU website is out of date with other articles on the ARU website. It also includes the following:

Alec Ross
Tony Miller
Jon White

Also Andrew Slack was announced as the 18th inductee on July 21 2010. http://rugby.com.au/news/wallabies_2010/andrew_slack_joins_wallaby_hall_of_fame,140726.html

The ARU article suggested "The other two players to be included in the Hall of Fame this season will be announced in coming weeks."

Each year three past players – one from the pre-World War II era and two from the post-World War II period – are inducted into the Wallaby Hall of Fame.
The 2010 Hall of Fame committee consisted of the following: ARU President Ron Graham as chairman, ARU Managing Director and CEO John O’Neill, ARU past presidents Paul McLean and Peter Crittle, Qantas Wallabies captain Rocky Elsom, former Wallabies and historians Max Howell and John Freedman, and Classic Wallabies co-presidents Simon Poidevin and Jeff Miller.
