With your level of knowledge about all the teams this season I was hoping you'd be able to supply all the team lists

I know that the key players from both the Newington and Riverview backlines from last year are still at the school. That is how I have this knowledge.

If you'd like me to extend myself however and see how many team lists I can get my hands I'd be more than willing.

Offer appreciated. See how you go.

Team lists are a funny thing though.

Most teams would have settled on their player list by around Wednesday each week, with a tweak here and there possible, to allow for recovery from injuries.

But i cant imagine any team would want their opposition the coming weekend to know about team changes where there is opportunity to amend their tactics, even players they pick.

So team lists are held close to each teams chests. Also, those in this forum that have connections with a team would be reluctant to share such information due to a reluctance to hand over competitive advantage.

The question I often hear asked is "So you can get a team list in advance for colts, grade, super rugby etc, why not schoolboys". It's a very good question and one I have pondered frequently.

But not knowing who is going to take the field until match day when you go to the canteen to grab a programs (and a meat pie) just adds to the mystery and intrigued and IMO is just one of many qwerky things that make schools rugby so exciting.

I wouldn't be expecting too many changes to any of these sides. Think last weekend most schools fielded their best team. There would only be minor changes here and there for injuries. Shore have Burrows to return to the back row, not sure if that is this week or not.

Cant see the 3 winning sides making too many changes at least.

It would be pretty big for a coach to drop someone after 1 game.

And even if you can, it doesn't imply bias, just that one side infringed more than the other. You said the same after the Newington v Waverley game, implying the ref was unfairly penalising Waverley in the scrums all the time. The ref called it fairly. Very tedious to hear constant wingeing about refs

You might see it as "whinging at refs" but I am an independent, my sons don't play against Joeys, I highly rate the Joeys rugby

it is the school that I am having a bit of a subtle crack at

I have seen high profile sports photographers escorted off the Joeys pitch, as they didn't get the pre-approval

in the old days the Joeys ball boys were coached to do certain things ...

anyway on the issue of refs and bias ...

there is always going to be some bias when a ref only referees at one ground ... and Joeys is certainly not alone in having only the top 3 grades being externally appointed

when a referee knows he has to pitch up (to the same ground) the next week, of course it might be a factor (in the back of his mind)

plus it's schoolkids that are refereeing, and being boarders there is no hiding from your match .... so I get it ...

anyone my point is outside referees talk about how "closed shop" Joeys is with their refereeing ... the school should be embracing the referee coaching more (I haven't seen it happening?), and like a lot of schools could benefit from having more fixtures done externally ... particularly the A fixtures

anyway I know Joeys does have some excellent referees aswell ... but if ever there was a school that could be less "closed shop" it should be Joeys

they will still dominate, no 2 ways about it

Comment as you see fit,

1 Helu (N)
2 Jeavons-Fellows (S)
3. Osborne (I)
4. Grey (N)
5. Suttor (E)
6. Peitch (K)
7. Green (S)/ Rorke (I)
8 Fenn (I)/ Lawson (N)
9 Brown (K)
10. Lenehan (I)
11. Gregory (E)/ Day (J)
12. Sinclair (E)
13. Jaffer-Williams (J)
14. McTaggert (J)
15. Burnett (S)/Osborne (K)

While Grey was the only one of the new players in Newington's 1sts who seemed comfortable or contributed, was nowhere near the quality of N. Brown from Kings. Peitch played #8 for Kings and while Lawson was good for Newington the 2 second half tries Peitch scored and overall impact he deserves first dibs on the #8 jumper. I think both Taukomo's and Orpen's game as opposing #12 was a standout and worth being slotted in.

OAUI have you seen all the teams play ? Because if you have not, explain as to how you made an informed selection ? You picking a team on last years form... pfft keyboard selector, go out and watch some games and come back after round 5 with your informed selection.

I am not surprised that Azzuri likes this. While I appreciate the mystery of the team list, it is a poor substitute when they run out of pies.

Geez Troy, tough. NIS asked for "Comments as you see fit" for a team of the week from Rd 1. NIS first draft drawn from match reviews and comments so far. ( I have now seen 4 of the 6 sides play this year but stuck to what I saw last weekend) I thought you would ascertain that I did attend one game and my comments about selection and players only pertained to that game and were similar to what I was asked to provide to the Newington v Kings match review after the weekend. If as you say I was only using last years form then probably would have had to include Serhon, Simmonson, (N) Wilkinson, (J) Haskins and prop whose name escapes (S) Terry & Pirina (I) all who were in rep teams or prominent from last year.

mmmmm the smell of humble pie draws me away to fearless predict this weeks menu.

Kings at home is always a delightful affair. The canteen selling their hot chips from 8am and the TKS old boys producing one of the better sausage sandwiches at 9am than most. This food will not be wasted as I feel Scots may struggle with their produce. Scots will indeed have the limousine well stocked with forced fed duck liver pate and good supply of blue cheese. These though are local produce and not as good as previous imported supplies.I see them come up short against pure grain feed beef of Nth Parramatta. Kings by a dozen slices of fresh white bread.

Newington v Riverview. What a cracker this week shall be. One would find this hard to pick. On one hand you have a well aged sirloin beef steak up against the delicate and refined pheasant under glass. But is that glass hard enough to keep out the Stanmore cattle? A number of Joeys boys would say that if their team could have caught the ball like they did the sausage rolls at the after game function, then fence makers of Hunters Hill would never have been called. Newington by at least 12 oz.

My heart so wishes that Shore would break this drought. Could there be storm clouds gathering? While many a Shoreman will point to their outstanding Beef Bourguignon pie from Northbridge and the very good Tobys Estate coffee, it shall be the Friday night schnitzel served deep within the bowels of SJC that will see them home but without a fright first. Shore to take early lead and then the spring lambs of Joeys will pass them by. Joeys by 10 shanks.

Quality is still there maybe not as good but all depends on how they come together. Piroddi and Mannix were great players last year driving that tight five unfortunately #5 Piroddi did have some 'injuries' and missed some vital minutes. #coachesfault

Couldn't agree more Deez ebola nuts, any word on how young Mannix is going over in Alabama? - he was the definite stand out of the New pack last year and the more dominate second rower
