I think the explanation is that GPS still think they need a thirds and since the draw wont work if they have 3 teams they have to also pick a 4th. CAS used to pick 3. Its not from 6, either, its from either 7, 8 or 9 depending on your point of view.
Just remember that Andrew Deegan played oz schools from GPS 3rds when there were only 3 teams and that was only about 2 years ago.
A quick look at the GPS thread will tell you that there are posters who already think kids in Blue or White should have been in 2s and 2s produced last year's first pick 5/8, just by way of example.
Thanks IS. I guess it makes some sense looked at in terms of providing a round robin, and i note that 3 Grammar boys made it, so yes at least 7 schools. Also, I wasnt suggesting any boys in particular either shouldn't be there or were neglected by the selectors, though in 2013 Andrew Deegan should never have been required to work back up from GPS 3s.

Another thing I thought of was that its so early in the GPS season when the teams are picked the selectors might think that its possible they have made errors in the coloured teams and 2s: I am told the higher selectors watch the GPS blue and white games

Hugh Jarse, how did you get the correct spelling and coaching staff when the program at the ground was wrong?

Alfred Walker (16)
ISA 5 tries 2 conversions 29
CHS 3 tries two conversions 19

am happy to be corrected on that

CHS scored early, surprising ISA with a driving mall from a 5m lineout. the scoring in the remainder of the 1st 1/2 was to ISA

17-7 in favour of ISA at the break

CHS turned the screws in the second and scored early to get within 3, after absorbing a significant period of pressure the ISA capitalised on a turnover around their own 22 and good broken play attack allowed them to score a wide try. A second try under the post converted took ISA to 29 with around 10minutes to go. This meant CHS needed to score three times in the last period to snatch victory. Though the High Schools team gave themselves every opportunity they could only manage one more try.
Trys I believe
Johnson-Holmes scored 2 (the ground announcer incorrectly pronounced his name the first time as Godknows, but this was corrected at the end of the day) and Fidow 1 for CHS

the 5 ISA tries were scored by four players including Lough O'toole and Hingano (sorry forgot the 4th)

Unfortunately The CHS fullback Lalaga was carried from the field with what appeared to be a significant injury, This lad was causing a fair bit of trouble for the ISA defence, from the CHS v CAS report he was doing much the same there as well.

Can You Help?

Things are heating up in representative Schoolboy Rugby with a lot of games to cover this week coming.

Along with the Under 20 World Rugby Championships in Italy to cover, there are the Tuesday AAGPS vs CAS games and AAGPS Blue vs White clash, Thursday AAGPS Blue and White vs SJRU and NSW Country JRU U18 games, the main Opens Trials at Currigul on Friday and the two day Under 16 tournament at Knox over the weekend for the unpaid Interns at G&GR to provide coverage for the Blog and Forum.

Any assistance to help to spread the load from the usual suspects and the unpaid Interns at G&GR would be greatly appreciated.

Is there anyone on here that is going to Knox on Tuesday for the AAGPS vs CAS games, or Boronia Park on Thursday for the possibly first ever Schools Association vs Juniors games, or to Currigul on Friday for the final Opens Trials and is prepared to take a couple of photos, provide score up dates or short match reports?

If keen, then please volunteer your services below and someone will contact you shortly, or send a "conversation" (Click on the word "inbox" on the right of your user name and before "alerts" at the top right of your screen and follow your nose) to Lee Grant and/or myself saying what you can do and when, to help spread the load.

My understanding is that Jesse is injured. He was at the camp and the game, but unable to play.

Impressive perfomance by the ISA boys in both the 1's and 2's considering this was their first hit-outs together against opposition that had already played several games.

The ISA2 game was played at a frantic pace for the first half end to end, great to watch, very entertaining game. CCC staged an impressive comeback late in the second half to level the scores 31-31, but the class of the ISA boys to hit back with a late try to seal the game was impressive.

The ISA1 game was a real arm wrestle, with both forward packs smashing each other. It would be fair to say that CHS had a lot more of the ball, however when ISA did have the pill they looked dangerous and made CHS pay.

Credit to the ISA defence which stood up the the CHS attack, phase after phase late in the game

The boys will be better for the run together and should put them in good sted going into Fridays matches.

Could it be that the unfortunate demise of Country Schools has played some part in the improvement of AICES this year? Many of the boys above seem to come from the country.

There is only 1 player form NSWCSRU last years opens side now playing in the AICES opens side, not sure why theses boys would have never trialled or made the Country side previously. I think it has more to do with the fact that AICES have adopted the Country culture with the camp, have really improved there selection process but have worked really hard in trying to rid themselves of the image of the easy beats and appear to have successfully restored / gained some pride in the jersey. They have a couple of boys who are geniuine contenders for further honours. Good luck to them.
