Big game at Northgate tomorrow with the LDB taking on Terrace in a traditional rivalry. Can anyone see the LDB causing an upset? GT team?

Terrace to win by 20.

I think GT-BGS has a long way to be considered a 'traditional' rival in Terrace circles. The big games at Terrace have always been Nudgee, then to a lesser extent Churchie. The rivalry with BGS has only been a recent phenomena at GT - mainly because both of the teams sucked for much of the late noughties and early teens (with exceptions). Ask any GT old boy if they'd prefer a win over BGS or Nudgee, and you'd get Nudgee 100% of the time.

BGS showed how to throw away a game of rugby today. While not looking imposing on attack, silly errors and missed opportunities underpinned the second half. BGS were 3 down with a minute to go, edging up on the try line, when a grubber gone wrong(you'd hope) landed into the hands of the GT winger, who dashed 75 metres to score in the corner. Definitely the most exciting Spring Hill clash in the past few years, props to GT for taking all the opportunities there were - they looked dominant in the back line with some real speed out wide.

Not sure many will make the firsts next year with 11 odd returning next year and a few more very good players from 2nds and 16As available to fill some vacancies.

The BSHS v TGS game today was apparently the last for longtime leading referee Rod Brockett. Having played in games and coached teams refereed by him, we should wish him all the best. Calm, experienced referees like him are a rarity. As for today, the 48-35 score line showed he allowed the boys to play footy. Well done Rod.

As a lover of biting sarcasm, this one is one of this season's best. IMHO, the best ref around was Pat Rae who is now not reffing anymore. If you see any fireworks going off this week, they'll be Brockett retirement parties with plenty of stories about him making himself the focus and forget about the players. Give me a break.
