It is 'interesting' to see K Hunt emerge in the 'Leadership Group' of the Brisbane City NRC team.

It must be nice, really nice, to be a player who is paid c.$700,000 pa and has to prove so little to nonetheless enjoy continued support from on-high and indeed promotion into these types of positions.

If JOC (James O'Connor) leaves then Turner might get the call. Don't think there's enough spots left open to fit him in.

Given that player contracts run until Nov, the Reds would have had to release Turner so he could sign with Toulon. If JOC (James O'Connor) was signed to Toulon he would have been returning when Turner heads over.

Only very recently (this July), Bernard Laporte stated categorically that JO'C would return to Toulon in 2016 and that he was contractually signed and bound to do so, or would have to pay to get out of the contract:

Their first game is in two weeks. Why wouldn't he have to be there for that?

Maybe released for international/WC duty?

See the article as posted. Laporte stated:

"James O'Connor is coming after the World Cup. He's not in the Wallaby squad, but he's on standby. So he'll come afterwards."

I saw that - but doesn't really make any sense. If he's not in the squad then he isn't part of the release window. All of the reports from 2014 suggest he signed a one year contract with Toulon too.

I just think it is weird that a bloke who doesn't start a game (I think) gets an award such as this. Chuck must have called in sime votes.

Quirky must have been up there as well.

Have a nice day:)

It's the people's choice award. It's not the Most valued player, it's not the most games played award, it's got nothing to do with how many games he played.

It's a really weird thing to have your knickers in a knot over and your continued digs about it speak more about you than they do about Ben or the award.

No problem if JOC (James O'Connor) goes back to Toulon, I'm sure we'll find a new fullback.

Word has it the QRU has sent the newly formed High Performance Unit to the same Fijian Hotel Nabuli was working at to check the rest of the staff to see if anyone else has similar potential.

Apprarently Freddie Fittler also rated the Cocktail Barman and one of the Kitchen Hands highly.

I think he rated them on their ability to get illegal substances.

It's a sorrowful melodrama.

In carefully filtered and 'fair-use-only' selected comments from Wayne Smith writing in tomorrow's The Australian, some interesting input from Smith is below.

If correct, we can see that the rushed call for 'expressions of interest' as announced for the Reds HC position by the QRU just a few short weeks ago was in truth an insincere farce likely designed to concoct some ham-fisted way to appease the fans and media that 'we have considered all options' before.....re-appointing RG for 2016.

The highlights of the edited selections are mine.

".......The argument is made by some in the Queensland Rugby Union, though not for attribution, that the Reds might as well stick with Richard Graham as Super Rugby head coach next year because no other quality candidate is available.

Matt O’Connor, John Mulvihill and Nick Stiles would suggest that’s not the case. And who knows how many of the unannounced candidates as well. Seemingly, the candidates don’t have long to wait for an answer, with QRU sources indicating the position is likely to be filled by the middle of next week although the selection committee may have to move quickly because none of the leading applicants have yet been interviewed for the job.

Since quitting the Brumbies in 2008, O’Connor has been coaching in Europe, taking Leinster and Leicester to five trophy finals in total as part of an overall career winning record of 70 per cent, spread across 250 games. He returned to Australia for his children’s education but in his final year at Leinster he put 25 players into Ireland’s World Cup squad. Ireland presently is placed third in the world, two places higher than Australia. Japan-based Mulvihill, the former Western Force assistant coach under John Mitchell, and Stiles, who is currently the Reds forwards coach and Brisbane City head coach, are all highly regarded, while Matt Taylor, Ewen McKenzie’s assistant before becoming Scotland defence coach, was known to be interested but is believed to have dropped out of the race because the process was taking so long.

.......

.......

Quade Cooper is listed as a Brisbane City player, as is Will Genia and James Horwill, but is unlikely to play more than a game or two if he is included in the World Cup side. Either way, strong indications are that he now will head to Toulon and will not be a part of the sevens program."

Deftly excised. Here's the title which may help some access the article:

Liam Gill’s decision to stay adds to Reds Super Rugby intrigue
Wayne Smith: August 7, 2015

What swayed Gill would be handy to know.
