tahs need an outside badly. Either English or Rona could do very well there as well if a team goes.

Let magnay come back to the Reds as a gun 22 yr old in 2019 after 2 japanese seasons and a season with the crusaders.

How dare they make as much money as they can from their job. We want them to be Wallabies.. If they ever get picked.

Wasn't have a go at the players. Just find the similarity of their departures interesting.

Their manager, Picone specialise in Japanese contracts, they make no secret of that.. but they also manage plenty of players like Kerevi who have signed to remain in Australia and Queensland

Japan is also great because short seasons and works well with coming back to soup rugby timing wise. UK/Europe is a wipeout. It's also heavier footy and more injury prone... That my gut feel based off madness getting through multiple seasons untouched, so a smidge creative use of extrapolation

QLD vs NSW 1996, is it possible for that level passion to return?

The "State of the Union" Series' massive passion, some brutal games. Compare to the "professional games now and the level of skill on display is comparatively rubbish. Especially when the improved defences argument cannot be used now as an excuse as to why the execution is so poor.

About 3:30 Warrwick Waugh and Garrick Morgan have a push and shove (nobody would want to get between them two), all of our current locks would learn a shit load looking at how these two amateurs played.

These days, Smith would have set a record for red card offences in one phase - swinging arm to head then attempted punch to follow it up! Certainly some lively play in those highlights! Match probably would have ended up 12 playing 13 or something!

He was certainly a great fan of Campo. Must have been interesting when they were in test sides together.

I'd chalk it up to some of this lack of passion due to the loss of characters in the game. No side has heroes to cheer for or villians to scream at because the game (not just Rugby, but every sport) has become so monetised that clubs are worried about bad press costing them lucrative sponsorship money.

Hate them or love them, the likes of Wendell Sailor and Tom Carter were great ambassadors for our game. I still remember booing Sailor every time a high ball came his way when he first turned up to Suncorp in a light blue jersey.

Now, if a player says something that can be twisted in a way that's controversy, he'll face fines and time on the pine. So there's not incentive for characters to develop in our game.

If the ARU are not allowing Magnay to play for the Reds because he has a stint overseas, but then let him sign on for the Tahs after playing overseas then I may end up quite upset.

I was just having a dig about him coming to the Tahs ;). Surely the ARU restriction would apply to all OZ teams, if anything it should be made easier for magnay to come back to Reds, as they are the ones who developed him.

Must have been the Uni he went to... and the way he fights sort of proves it given the team he played for (BOOOOO St Albies) :)

Wow John Eales was super human in that. I forgot how Amateurs use to contest the lineout. We've come along way with getting the pods up.. but watching John Eales right there reminded me of a basketballer boxing out. using a mix of sheer size & Athletism to win the contest at the back of the lineout.

Was the hooker Michael Foley? The lineout throw was very unauthodox. Was the Dan Marino lineout throw common practice back in that decade? Lets hope that technique remains in the youtube vault because the one hander line out i imagine drives the coaches maddening.
