Running

Started to develop a bit of a lurgee while on the way to the snow, and it has accelerated so not running right now. Important to rest, though I'm tempted to go out during the day and help hack up the minimal phlegm in the chest.

I have moved the statin dose to evening time under doctor's advice, so hopefully that will alleviate the sleep issues and make the drug more effective. Last couple of nights I've slept much better but that could be the cough medicine ;)

We'll see once I'm free and clear of this snotty mess.

So I've been sick the last few weeks - feels like fucking forever - and every time I go for even a short, sustained jog, the lungs were burning in an uncomfortable fashion.

I brought my running gear to work on Tuesday - except the running shoes (fuckwit) - so I repeated the dose (with shoes) Wednesday and got out just as it started to rain. Anyway i pressed on and got 3km in 17:50

I credit the rain and cold with keeping my pace up. Lungs pulled up OK. Legs were a bit sore from Tuesday night Pilates but that's all OK.

Back into the 5km tomorrow early AM I think - weighed in at 96.7kg this morning which is nice after a couple of weeks bloated on cold n flu meds and bad eating.

Plus I drank a metric fuckton of whisk(e)y Saturday night and basically wrote off Father's Day doing it. Got a nice swag tho which I just wanted to curl up in all day:

Medical stuff:

I went back to the GP to get onto 10mg version of Crestor rather than the 20mg I started with. Apparently getting off statins is nearly as big a trial as starting the bastards, so we're going with this for 3 months, then will look at the blood tests and maybe step down to 5mg or just ditch them altogether.

After all, the first 8 weeks produced some fucking amazing results, of which the mediciation is obviously a part. The lifestyle changes (barring Saturday's blowout) are more significant from an ongoing maintenance perspective.

On the Men's Health front: after crushing the LDL, losing some weight, getting more active, adding some muscle mass, and STILL getting inconsistent results in the boudoir, the GP, my chiro, and I have determined that there is nothing physically fucked enough to be the primary cause of my ED. As evidence: I still get nocturnal erections, so the plumbing appears to be generally in order.

To address this, I've booked in with a psych/counsellor who specialises in sexual health and men's issues around ED and such, to help unpick any knots I'm either unaware of, or unable to overcome on my own.

I was hoping there was a simple, physical cure for this, so that I could get on with my life.

Look, it has really only been 10 weeks since I started, so I am definitely impatient. There are also bigger worries around my long term health than my sex life, but I'm a believer in living for now and planning for later.

Additionally, this kind of anxiety is a gateway into a big spiral about self esteem and self worth in general. So its important to address it from as many angles as possible.

I'm also still tending to wake up early in the morning (before 0500) which is part of the brain issue. No issue getting to sleep - staying there long enough is my problem.

OK

Fitness world is changing moving from a "beginner program" to intermediate ..................

Current program
Visit squat rack 3 times a week (various Squats, Dead Lifts, Bench & OHP) nothing to failure
One other session 30 minutes cardio (rowing last night) 10 minutes planks, 10 minutes lat pull downs

So far so good

Back pain has just disappeared, lost an inch around the waist but weight up to 100kgs, doing alright for an old man, squatting and DLs over body weight

Stick with it mate, sorting the physical (exercise) stuff out is a (relatively) simple first step, the rest will come (pun intended) with time.

5km in 30 even this morning.

Much prefer the morning run. Was chilly today after Saturday's warm spell and then yesterday's cold front.

DST is only 3 weeks away so it'll start getting appropriately cool for short sleeves and no beanie thank fk.

Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge set a new world's fastest time for the marathon in last weekend's Berlin Marathon, crossing the line in 2 hours, 1 minute and 39 seconds. This is a staggering feat, beating the previous best time by 78 seconds!

Amazingly he also managed a negative split. First half in 61:06, second half in 60:33.

If you're a ParkRun participant consider this - Kipchoge's average 5km pace throughout the marathon was 14.24. I had to put this into some perspective and the best comparison I could identify with was that we [Kipchoge and me  ] have a bit of commonalty at about 29 minutes. The difference is he'd have run 10km to my 5km.

No running since Monday, but I've been covering a few km walking when I've got spare time at lunch or after hours.

Tracked a tick over 15km in concerted effort, mostly at 9:00/km

I might save the run for Saturday morning, where I'll need it before weigh in ;) Would love to get under 96kg, but anything that looks like a 500g loss is good.
