Grammar, Kings and Riverview all maintained their stance and did not play TSC in 1sts or 2nds basketball.

Curiously the 2 schools who came out most strongly at the beginning, were the 2 who broke ranks (Shore and Joeys).

Riverview are 2 points clear of Joeys and High in 2nds, but those schools play equal last placed Grammar and Newington respectively. If results go as expected 3 schools would finish equal with 12 points. View would have the moral victory, in my eyes anyway.

A well deserved moral victory, at that, having hidden behind the fulminating principals at Joeys and Shore. Well done, if not well played.

Be good not to have to rabbit on about bloody basketball.

Roll on Footy season.
rugby + scholarships is low level this year because the only school celebrating a significant anniversary is Shore.
I guess when the Scots dream team takes the field there'll be some ire to vent.

I'm interested in scholarshipping in general, not just the AAGPS.

There seem to be all sorts of interesting player movements within the Qld GPS system based on banter on the Qld GPS thread. The Qld GPS schools seem to have given up on trying to control scholarshipping.

What about rugby scholarships within the ISA and CAS, or the ACT system for that matter? It doesn't seem to be against any code of conduct that I have seen, and doesn't seem to be as widespread as in other associations but does it happen according to sideline gossip.

If it is occurring in these associations, is it self regulated with just a small number of kids involved, or is there wholesale importing. Some schools were accused of assembling super teams to extend their unbeaten Waratah Shield run only to have the organisers amend the rules to prevent them from participating.

Are the CAS & ISA schools net losers of player talent to the more prestigious AAGPS association, or is it the CCC and CHS associations that are the provider of cattle to the AAGPS arms race? I think the latter, but then there are examples of Augies (ISA) ->Scots (AAGPS), - scholarship status unconfirmed but Manly to Bellevue Hill is a long way to go without some form of incentive.

What remains to be seen is will their be lasting behavioural change as a consequence of the basketball season apropos of recruiting and sporting scholarships in contradiction of the AAGPS charter, or will the charter evolve to match modern reality.

The QLD GPS charter has evolved into what could best be described as open slather, with some controls about eligibility based on the first day of attendance at the "new" school.

Not everything you read in the forums can be taken as the absolute truth, but despite the "controls", the Qld QPS thread seems to record all sorts of rather "cynical" school transfers.

At least the AAGPS scholarship situation as it stands now seems to involve an intent to educate the child and inculcate them into the "values" of the school, and not just use them just to win a sports trophy as an extension of the marketing department.

Its open slather as I understand it.
Billeted a boy from BGS over Xmas who only came into their cricket side to play in Sydney because 2 of their kids were off in National U19s(?) having been flown in to bolster the 1st XI.
Same for Melbourne grammar.

Basketball season over (to the delight no doubt of many)

1sts won by High (undefeated)

2nds won jointly by Riverview(undefeated) and Joeys (after Riverview forfeited to TSC)

As an aside, it's interesting how quickly results go onto the AAGPS website for basketball (same day by mid afternoon, including scorers and tables), whereas rugby takes until Tuesday or Wednesday.

Try Newport to Bellevue Hill;)

And we've seen what the evolution to modern reality looks like in Sydney juniors - the creation of super teams, adults poaching boys from other districts and a decline in participation.

Maybe modern reality isn't all it's cracked up to be?:)

Modern reality seems to be 40,000 at a Sydney A-League game versus 18,000 at Tahs/Reds (sorry mods off topic).

If my mail is correct and TSC have backed off the recruitment of one U16 rugby player in the wake of the B'ball fiasco then the ARU are going to be in even bigger trouble in the future.

If no local interest, then are the family not keen to send the boy to the other side of the boarder to board to play and be edumacated. Quite a few NSW Country lads in the Qld school system who seem only too happy to have them.

If the ARU want GPS schools recruiting then the ARU should set up a super comp so that recruiting schools can play in it and the AAGPS doesn't need to self implode any longer.
