Super Rugby AU 2021 Team of the Week

KOB1987

Rod McCall (65)
Samu was very, very good in the lineout, but didn’t do enough around the ground to justify selection...

Also, Eloff ran well in open space but the Rebels scrum took a pasting all night, even after AAA went off, so I couldn’t possibly reward any of their front row.

And while I want to refrain from commenting on other people’s selections..... one of them has a surprising amount of Tahs... particularly in positions I felt the winning team were stronger.

Unless everyone agrees with me it's academic anyway. It was a weird week all around, there were only a few obvious standouts as far as I could see. I'd say you and BR would balance it out pretty well. I did put in a disclaimer and a few selections were for players actually having a go rather than just being the incumbent pick. I probably would have had Cubelli, Kahui and Pulu in if I'd allowed myself to pick Wallaby ineligible players.

For positions I was unsure about I had a look at the stats. Compare Newsome and Ikitau when you get a chance for example. I’m by no means claiming that Newsome had a stormer of a game but he did a lot more than Len this week. Similar Nawa and Grant.

I thought Wells was the better 8 in the lineout from Bru v Reb, he was the primary target on their own throw and stole/disrupted a couple from the Brumbies

Reg, there would be one of two reasons you've nominated Darcy in the second row. Either a not so subtle shot at me personally, or that you were genuinely impressed with his involvement. There were a few other good efforts by locks on the weekend, notably LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) and Neville.

If you were indeed impressed, I's be extremely interested in getting your thoughts on what made his involvement one of the best.

1. Eloff (Rebels) - minus a point for the quick tap/chip kick
2. Fainga’a (Brumbies)
3. Tupou (Reds) - We know he's the best running prop in Aus, but surely also the best scummager in Aus.
4. LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) (Reds)
5. Neville (Brumbies)
6. Valetini (Brumbies) - finally living up to his potential. Having such a good season. So strong in contact.

I picked him too. Most people picked LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) who had 4 runs for a total of 3 metres and missed 4/10 tackles. Swain didn't do much in attack but made 10/10 tackles. My Bradbury pick for this week.
