Really interested to see the Crusaders team which will be named at 2pm. Sounds like there will be some serious resting, including guys coming in from outside the squad.

Are there any rules about throwing matches? I know in some other sports when you intentionally run out a second string team you can get into trouble.

This is basically throwing the game and they know it.
BLUES:
13. Michael Collins

No chance - given the player welfare situation in super rugby. lets wait and see though, just media rumblings ATM.

Ok here we go, a few players rested but largely a legit 23.

Israel Dagg, Seta Tamanivalu, Jack Goodhue, Ryan Crotty, George Bridge, Richie Mo'unga, Mitchell Drummond, Kieran Read, Matt Todd, Jordan Taufua, Sam Whitelock (capt), Quinten Strange, Michael Ala'alatoa, Andrew Makalio, Tim Perry. Reserves: Sam Anderson-Heather, Wyatt Crockett, Donald Brighouse, Luke Romano, Pete Samu, Bryn Hall, Mitchell Hunt, Manasa Mataele

Sam Anderson-Heather is from outside the squad though. “club captain” for the Otago ~NPC team. Not the actual captain as doesn’t get picked most weeks.

Nobody could call this a thrown game. Any reasonable coach has some kind of squad workload management over the season, and you often have to start players to see what they're truly made of, and to see which players they combine well with.

I count nine AB (10 if you count Taufua) in the XV & two more plus Aussie Pete on the bench. It's not exactly the Addington Under 12's, is it.

It's just started raining in the Tron but it's fairly light & there's no wind to speak of & it's quite mild for this time of year so while conditions won't be perfect they shouldn't be too bad. Says he as the rain suddenly gets much heavier :) Oh well, it's mid-July in the Waikato so it's to be expected.

Chiefs further weakened by late withdrawal of Ngatai & Ardron. Big reception for Jeff To'omaga-Allen on his 100th 'canes appearance, nothing for Messam so Tribe must believe they can win by 23+ with a BP & be back next week to farewell him. Strongly suspect there's a ceremonial Korowai (cloak) & Patu (striking weapon) or Taiaha (spear) ready to be presented should they lose, though.

EDIT: Lurch goes over, MartyMac nails it, Tribe 7-0.

Brad Weber's little legs last just long enough to outpace Ben Lam for the intercept try. MartyMac on target, Tribe 14-0 inside 20 & the miracle result is now an actual (if unlikely) possibility.

Not quite Suva revisited but Tribe are all over this & the theory that 'canes with Beaugan are 20+ points better than without him is looking pretty shaky.
