Speaking of preparation, would imagine the training load for the Reds would have slightly modified this week . The conditions on Sunday afternoon were pretty harsh, hopefully all back up to speed by Saturday to take on the Rebels who are on the way home from SA. The Courier Mail reported today that Genia, Coleman and one other returned to Melbourne after the first game of the Rebel's tour in order to be fresh for this weekend.

True Wamb. They were so lacklustre in fact that I am beginning to think there is something wrong going on in the set up.If all is not rosy behind the scenes, it quickly starts to show on the field.

I reckon it was purely the conditions, it was debilitating for everyone by all accounts.

Last weekends performance was an anomaly.

Just when you think you know how SANZAR will react to any contact with the head, they role out a bit of old fashioned common sense, amazing!

Great result for the Reds and ASY (Angus Scott-Young) , but got to feel sorry for every other poor bastard who “glanced” the head of an opposition player and spent a few weeks in the naughty corner.

They kept showing replays of it on the big screen at the game for a bit after it happened . Had that horrible feeling at the time that the TMO must have wanted the on field ref to have a look at it, could have changed the momentum of the game at the time . Would love to think the ref said to the TMO “ it’s rugby , let’s get on with it ...”

Pretty sure by the time they were replaying it at the ground, the game had moved on by a fair margin. The replays came when Slipper was coming off for the HIA which was well past the point for any TMO intervention. It was freakin hot though so I may have remembered that wrong.

Didn't see the incident "live", as was sitting the cheap seats with my kids in the Northern stand, only saw the replays , so not sure when it actually happened, but they were showing it on the big screen before and after Hegarty's penalty kick. Was still getting a screening while the Reds were getting ready to receive the restart.

Not sure what the cut off is for foul play, have seen them take it back a fair way previously.

Can't say it is surprising these days. He's in his prime, best Australian center and only 25 years old. Head overseas for a few years and make a couple squillion dollars which can't be matched here and then return to Super Rugby in time for another World Cup.

Is it possible it's an off season deal that lets him keep playing Super Rugby? If its huge dollars then probably not I guess but I can dream.

yeah, probably not. But I'm happy for him to skip off for a couple of years and be back for the next RWC and a couple more years with the Reds. He's only 25.

There's no Top League this year due to the RWC.

It would make sense for RA to offer him a flexible contract allowing him to play one or two Top League seasons and have some time off from Australian rugby.

Play Super Rugby and tests in 2020 (let him miss the EOYT to go to Japan), Top League 20/21, have 2021 away from Australian rugby, Top League 21/22 and return to Super Rugby in 2022.

Yep, next year Top League overlaps with Super Rugby.. won’t be much opportunity for players to play both competitions

Don’t think that will happen anytime soon. I can’t imagine too many Super Rugby teams being able to pay what he would be receiving from his Japanese club side as well as the Sunwolves
