Reds 2022

I'm not sure what shadows your leaping at there? There's no centralisation at the moment. The Brumby hooker situation has a fair chance of benefiting QLD if it eventuates.
I know there is no centralisation at the moment. my point was that talk of moving to a more centralised model isn't going to be helped by some of those calls made by the test coaches/selectors. they hint at what could happened if the centralised functions are captured by one partisan group.

At least one of those Brumbies hookers is barely Super Rugby ready - certainly shouldn't have been anywhere near a test team. I wouldn't be excited about any of their reserve hookers coming our way.

Good and we want none of them going to the Reds... So I'm assuming you mean Pollard as the only none Super Rugby ready Hooker because the other 3 are easily decent super rugby players... and have proved it.

I hear there's a brumbies culling program recently being approved.
Causing all sorts of problems in their unnatural environment:rolleyes:

Bit of a write up of this years Reds to Regions over on the reds site:

It's great to see the way they have continued to grow this program and how the whole team really engages with it. Might be the single best thing Thorn has done since taking over the coaching.

Wilson is also looking a little bigger in the Reds to regions photo? He'll do well in 2022 after a proper preseason.

If he has bulked up a bit and still retains his mobility, he will be a force with which to be reckoned. He has most of the skills.

I don't think centralisation of contracting will result in players been moved to where it suits RA etc will it. That is one way to encourage players it better to go overseas.

No one is suggesting players will be forced to move.
No one from a legitimate source, but there's a lot of that speculation to that effect on rugby twitter. Mostly from people listing all the fullbacks the Waratahs might have signed for next year under centralisation, without much regard for the fact that they've had every chance to sign most of them when they've been off contract.

I imagine Tahs not favourite destination for players given last few years shannigans. Hopefully that is beginning to change over time from here under Coleman etc

Living costs are another factor to consider if you are forced to move. Possibly even political climate too, imagine being sent from QLD with hardly any COVID restrictions to Melbourne a couple of seasons ago.

Reds after a new major sponsor for 2022, St George to move from naming rights to sleeve sponsor

That was in July but still waiting on news for a new naming rights sponsor, QRU seemed to have locked up a number of sponsors for the coming season so it should be getting close. It would have been good to confirm before Christmas so you get an early release of the 2022 playing kits as a Christmas present for others/yourself.

I wonder if the sponsorship is for the entire calendar year?

Would the Reds be able to release a Jersey with a new sponsor before the end of the year and not breach the contract, especially if St George are remaining in a lesser form?

Unsure, but they’ve stopped calling themselves the ‘St George Queensland Reds’ in press releases, so I think that’s a fair indicator that the dates aren’t an issue.

Correct - they may encourage but not as if anyone will have a gun held to their head
Think player managers fill this role currently without centralisation, a young promising player stuck behind an incumbent gets plenty of offers to move for a potential starting spot.

That’s been happening at the Reds since the Brumbies and then the Force and Rebels were included in Super Rugby.

It’s surely just market forces?
A starting position should in theory translate to greater pay, the imbalance is created through RA top-ups.

I only recently learnt that the reason the Force signed so many Reds players when they started was because you could only negotiate with players on a bye week and the Reds had the first bye week after recruiting started.

Things could have been very different if the Tahs or Brumbies had the first bye of the season

I'm not so sure.

The Reds were easily the most 'fragile' of the three franchises during that time (04/05/06).

The Brumbies were coming off a competition win in 2004, the Tahs made the final in 2005. Both clubs were very much in a happy place with coaches who were well respected. The Reds on the other hand had finished in the bottom half of the competition pretty much every year from 2003 with a fair bit of player movement. They were definitely ripe for targeting.

How progressed is the notion of Centralisation? Shouldn’t we just let player movements happen autonomously? The oldest saying in team sport is that an opportunity is only an injury away.
