Waratahs 2022

He is having a very, very good season. Seems fitter than ever.
I chatted to him at a charity golf day a few years ago, and apart from being in awe at how much protein he ate at lunch, he was very interesting to talk to. Had some pretty significant hamstring issues as I recall and he had a long, tough period rehabilitating (which he was still in the middle of doing at that time). Sounded like he had a few years being not quite where he wanted to be, physically. Great to see him showing his form this season.

Archer holtz with bell smashed canes starting props…archer hits another good young prop coming on leaps and bounds this year.

Winning is nice. But a fighting loss is almost as good. Keep it up Tahs.
I think it is about the performance. Sure dropped off in second half but overall still pretty good performance. And as you say could see the fight till the end. I don’t think anyone would have expected the tahs to improve as much as they have on last season. No reason can’t get to another level next season. In DC and rest of coaching staff we trust.

What’s the app? Wow, the Tahs getting all sophisticated and stuff. Can we please have DC in the off season. He is proving to be a real good luck charm.
Lot to be said about getting right coaches as key to success. Brumbies had very good ones with Laurie fisher and McKellar and lot of good past ones that no doubt reason for their outperformance despite reliance on other states for players. Brumbies success should give hope for rebels and force if can get right coaching set up.m, particularly rebels who seem to have more locally developed players coming though cf brumbies.

Agree, but what’s the app.

Backline options this week with Peresè out?

Marky to fullback Newsome to 13
Reilly onto wing.

Roberts to 12 Foketi to 13.

Donaldson to 15, Newsome to13 ...

2 playmakers maybe makes the last option the best?

i understand racism sadly still exists, but I wouldn’t expect racism towards pasifika players at a rugby union match given all teams, grades and age groups have a deep pasifka influence.

Pretty important the tahs go hard here, it's completely unacceptable behaviour. Facilities at Leichardt might make it difficult to identify the individuals, in which case they need a plan to catch and deal with it in the future.

Having been at the game, it takes massive balls (or a suicidal streak) to sledge an islander given the amount of fans at the ground with a similar heritage to Kirifi.
And of course the fact there were a lot of Islanders in the crowd (or if there weren’t any) shouldn’t be a reason for people not to sledge someone’s heritage, family, et al. People can be stupid.

Yeah I found this really odd too. The crowds are populated by a good percentage of fans of Pasifika background so it would take a brave/stupid person to vilify someone. I'm not saying it didn't happen (clearly something was said) however I find it hard to imagine in this day and age saying something and getting away with it. Good on Kirifi for calling out whatever happened.

I’m guessing he misheard. I very much doubt a Waratahs fan would say something racial re Pasifika given well the obvious. No one in the crowd has corroborated it either and it’s not the first time a player has misheard comments from the crowd.

Value of recruiting Roberts for depth after Walton rubbed out for the season playing out well. Perese big loss but we still get quality with Roberts. I still think the tahs could do well with Roberts.

When I lived in OZ, the only places that I saw a lot of Pacific Islanders together were in footy games. Rugby Union or League, you can see hundreds of them and talk to them.

In other places like pubs or parties they aren't common. I mean, footy is their real passion. You can see it in crowds and players. And the Pacific Island community is small in terms of general numbers. Walking to any neighborhood u gonna see more Asians or Aussies with Asian heritage than Pacific Islanders. In some places like Blacktown or Liverpool they are more common but IMO I used to see moren Asian people than Pacific Islanders on the streets. The footy community is where they are big, you see few Asians there in comparison with the streets but a lot of Islanders.

So is really stupid discriminate against Islanders in a place where they can beat you up, and they aren't dwarfs lol

This is an odd comment. It's entirely demographic based depending on what city and suburb you're in.

There are around 250,000 Australians who claim Pacific Islander ancestry, Maori is a further 150,000 on top of that. There are more then 1million China, Philippines, Vietnam born Australians not including ancestral, so its not surprising you use to see more? Not sure what the point of that all is though.

Just to show how passionate are the Islanders for rugby in Australia. It's like to say: NZ has 140k registered players in a 4 millions country meanwhile OZ has less than 90k in a 20 millions country.

So if NZ would have been a country with a population of 20 millions they would have had something like 700k registered players.

I lived in Greater Western Sydney and in Northern Beaches, and the etniticies are differents in both places. I had an uncle who lived in Canterbury/Campsie, he used to say that is a Korean neighborhood. I have not idea TBH.

In Cronulla you have a big Greek community, in Cabramatta is the Vietnamese community. So, as you can see I have walked the Sydney streets lol
